Hi /g/,

I want to build a new PC, how do I do it? Should I build my own or should I buy ready made? And what specs should I choose?

Am I slowpoking here? This seems like a massive loophole.

>>55041876
I think he was referencing the fact that you cannot distribute the book to anyone else, but if that's not your intention, then I guess you did find a loophole. I'm sure they would start to become curious if every book you purchased was returned though. Topping that, why not just torrent your books anyway?

I checked it out in a vm, but quickly nope'd the fuck out of there after I realized THE X SERVER WAS BROKEN (and it was a known issue... in a stable release).

Is the MINIX kernel or userland code worth looking at?

Or is OpenBSD's kernel simple and clean and easy to understand for a nub as well?

What went so wrong?

Back in 2007, green was the standard color for motherboards and we didn't have these shells for random components with cringing designs that appeal to gamers.

After 8 years of research, I've come up with a great way of getting a well performing pc without having it look like a fucking lightshow for 12 year olds:

Have a non-glass Side panel and put it on your case. I know this might be hard to comprehend, so I'll explain:

Process:
1. Get a case with a non-translucent (no seey throughy) side panel
2. Put the side panel on that case (there's manuals and probably youtube instructions for when you don't know how this works

3. done

Explanation: The Side panel will block visible light from inside the case (i.e. the motherboard) towards your eyes. This leads to you, instead of seeing the gaudy motherboard, seeing the side panel instead. You can also color that side panel in a professionally boring gray or a sad brown if you want to.

And? Most people who buy cards are fucking clueless and 970 is still fucking great in their minds. I will still be able to resell my 970 for almost half the price of 1070. I will be able to buy 1070 for a price of some low tier card. Feels good

What business-to-business companies should we all be thankful for?

We pay a lot of attention to business-to-consumer companies because we can readily see the products or software they make - but what about the companies we can't directly see the contributions of, and which do things like reduce costs for the end-consumer, provide logistical services, or do some other warm-and-fluffy things?

How many of you program on GNU/Linux for your job? What is your job description and salary?

i run cloud infrastructure for a videoconferencing product. i start in a few weeks but i'm guessing i'll be provisioning and setting up reproducible builds for servers, automating deployments and upgrades, writing scripts to run tasks and analyze logs and helping developers automate their build and test cycles

my offer was for 90k and i also get really good health insurance

i also do 1099 work for an AWS consultant in california - mostly migrating people's onsite applications into "the cloud" or helping early stage startups move from their initial software architecture to something cleaner and more scalable

i get paid 70/hr for that

it's maybe like 30% programming, 50% architecting and 20% sysops
