where the fuck does /g/ get their used/refurb Macbooks?

I am looking for a 1st or 2nd gen retina macbook for family, but the sellers on amazon and ebay all seem shady as fuck ("CellElectroniczWow!, 2,000,000 positive reviews") and don't offer any warranty.

Apple sells refurbs themselves on their site. It's never more than like 10% off the original price though.

There's nothing wrong with Java applications. It's no more "unsafe" than C++. The danger comes from using Java plugins which are exploitable. Just don't install them and no one uses them. Otherwise, nothing wrong with them.

Welcome to /fglt/. We are always open to users of all levels, including absolute beginners.

There are four ways to try GNU/Linux, you can:

0) Install a GNU/Linux OS on a VM (Virtual Machine/VirtualBox) for "safety purposes"
1) Use the Live ISO directly without installing anything, that way, you can get a "full GNU/Linux experience".
2) Dual-boot GNU/Linux with Windows/Mac (recommended if you want to learn more about GNU/Linux)
3) Go balls deep and overwrite everything with GNU/Linux

Before asking, please search for answers to your questions in resources.

Please be civil, notice the "Friendly" in every Friendly GNU/Linux Thread.

Understand that much of your software from Windows will be unavailable, although maybe WINE can make up for it.

IRC connection details:

If you don't have an IRC client (which you should), go to https://kiwiirc.com/client/irc.freenode.net/flt to use IRC on a web client.

Have you fa/g/gots heard of LimeSDR yet?

Looks like a 250USD equivalent to a ettus b210 software defined radio.Works from 100khz to 3.8ghz
https://www.crowdsupply.com/lime-micro/limesdr

Still in funding stage but looks promising in terms of specs, and its open sauce so you can look up more on github

https://github.com/myriadrf/LimeSDR-USB/tree/master/hardware

These guys are actually making it open and I think we should try to support em.

Sure. I am considering getting one but my working hours are too long to have much of a hobby. I am a licensed radio amateur so I follow the development in this area.

>>55028602
The chip it is built around is already in production and that is the hardest part.

>Rating
If you like a setup, let that person know. If you see a poor setup, offer them advice and criticism. Giving mere numerical ratings does not help much. Not rating others will highly decrease the chance of your setup being rated.

Where I live they're reporting the news of the diminished new PC demand as "Windows 10 is so good people aren't buying new computers anymore".
>>
>>55027618
No shit. Only reason to buy a pc is if youre a gaymer. Laptops are good enough for any type of work you might need to do on your personal time.
>>
>>55027645
Windows 10 is part of it, People can upgrade to a newer OS for free so why bother buying a new pc?

Also tablets and phones are what most normies use now days, You have to remember the average normster doesn't need anything but a facebook terminal.
