IRC Edition!
Use the links further down ("IRC Connection Details") to chat with us.

Previously on: >>54406753

Welcome to /fglt/. We are always open to users of all levels, including absolute beginners.

There are four ways to try GNU/Linux, you can:

0) Install a GNU/Linux OS on a VM (Virtual Machine/VirtualBox) for "safety purposes"
1) Use the Live ISO directly without installing anything, that way, you can get a "full GNU/Linux experience".
2) Dual-boot GNU/Linux with Windows/Mac (recommended if you want to learn more about GNU/Linux)
3) Go balls deep and overwrite everything with GNU/Linux

Before asking, please search for answers to your questions in resources.

Please be civil, notice the "Friendly" in every Friendly GNU/Linux Thread.

Understand that much of your software from Windows will be unavailable, although maybe WINE can make up for it.

IRC connection details:
Server: chat.freenode.net:6667 (no SSL, 6697 for SSL) - Channel: #flt
If you don't have an IRC client (which you should), go to https://kiwiirc.com/client/irc.freenode.net/flt to use IRC on a web client.

Visit the Friendly GNU/Linux Thread/Website:
http://fglt.nl/

Avoid Discord, it's a botnet made for mentally retarded "gamers".

Pic related, also it gathers data from you with it's bugsnag program which you are not made aware of nor have an option to turn off normally.

Not OP, but what do you propose that we use instead? I've never liked it, but a few friends of mine just started using it because it's there.
>>
>>54421420
Your pic related doesn't have any interesting information though.

Am I supposed to be scared about a voice chat application knowing my input and output volume settings?

>never really saw the appeal for tablets, so have 0 clue, and completely uninformed.

I've reached a point in my life that I NEED a tablet so I can just watch movies and youtube lets plays in bed.

How cheap are non contracted tablets anyway?

Can you get an ips quality 1080p/60fps for under 100bucks new?

What about 1440p? can you find one under 200bux?

watching shit on my galaxy 6 just ain't cutting it.

I am guessing this NEED to be able to watch this pure crap of choices(you want to lay in bed and watch faggots play a game on youtube) is due to the pic. I can smell your fat bed ridden immobile ass from here dude. Maybe you should try playing a game or 2 at least instead of watching some faggot do it from your bed just so he can try and earn a few bucks to avoid a job.
>>
Just get a Nexus 7 2013. Better resolution than most Android tablets and cheap now. Performance still great for YouTube and shitposting. Easy to hold in one hand too.

I really want to like GNU/Linux but every time I think Windows and Mac would never be so sloppy with presentation. Would something like this really be that difficult to get right?

Yeah. People who work on Linux distros don't have any sense of good design.

How does most of /g/ sit at their computers?

I've been trying to sit up straight with my shoulders squared back recently, it's tough, but I don't wanna be like the old guys at my work that are always hunched now that they're old.

Any tips otherwise besides standing desk bullshit to keep good posture?

>>
At home I'm all over the place, Right now I'm sitting at an angle to the desk with my feet up on it and the keyboard on my legs.

At work my desk has a metal support strut bridging the back legs a couple inches off the ground. I pull my chair in close, recline back and prop my feet up on the bar. My back is straight and my forearms are supported by the desk so my shoulders can relax.
