Hi /g/

I'm building my very first PC.
Which is weird, since I have CompTIA A+ certifications.
I would like some second thoughts on this build.

>CPU: Intel Core i5-4690K 3.5GHz Quad-Core Processor

>CPU Cooler: Cooler Master Hyper 212 EVO 82.9 CFM Sleeve Bearing CPU Cooler
(I'm aware Intel has a stock one, but from what I'm told, it's loud as hell.)

>Thermal Grease: Arctic Silver 5 High-Density Polysynthetic Silver 3.5g Thermal Paste

>Mobo: MSI Z97-GAMING 5 ATX LGA1150 Motherboard

>Memory: G.Skill Ripjaws X Series 8GB (2 x 4GB) DDR3-1866 Memory
(I plan on buying another 8 gigs once I complete this build.)

>Storage: Western Digital Caviar Blue 1TB 3.5" 7200RPM Internal Hard Drive

(I plan on buying another one later down the line and having a striped RAID array. Maybe JBOD.)

GPU: MSI GeForce GTX 960 4GB Video Card

(If I have some extra dosh unexpectedly, I might decide to get the 970.)

Case: Fractal Design Define R4 w/Window (Black Pearl) ATX Mid Tower Case

PSU: EVGA SuperNOVA NEX 650W 80+ Gold Certified Fully-Modular ATX Power Supply

Optical drive: Asus DRW-24B1ST/BLK/B/AS DVD/CD Writer

Anything I'm missing? Thoughts? Recommendations? Anything is appreciated.

Pic related, it's the case I want to use. It's sexy as fuck.

Don't buy nvidia. Buy a 380 instead. Get a cheaper case because you will not be utilising the r4 to its max potential and FOR FUCKS SAKE WATCH SOME FUCKING REVIEWS INSTEAD OF ASKING US

Thanks for the recommendations.

No SSD, no life.

Don't bother with an internal optical drive. It's almost 2016 ffs.

can I mix and match ram types? Let's say i have a set of 8gb in my computer and wanted to add 8 more. However, the heatspreders on the same brand are far too high to fit under my heatsin.
What is my best plan?

Is there a risk with connecting ps2 devices of unknown source to my computer.
I am asking from a malware standpoint. Not an electrical one by the way.
>>
>>51299306
Usually, you can. Better chances of no problems if they have the same timings.
Heat-spreaders don't matter at all (and are useless anyway)

My favourite data type... either dictionaries or lists. I can't really decide.

Mod it, download some psp isos, find a way to load em, and have fun.

What kind of isos are there for it? I guess nothing too fancy since it only has 64mb ram and some really weak processor.

robot-pharmacist.jpg

We've all seen a bunch of recent news articles about replacing unskilled labor (cashiers, clerks) with robots, but I've always wondered why we still have pharmacists.

Pharmacy seems tailor-made to be replaced by a robot; you don't need to train a robot for years at an expensive post-graduate school; it's database can be updated immediately; far less error-prone than a human; and human pharmacists don't have any actual judgment or dexterous skills that couldn't be easily replicated by a robot that checks a database and fills a scrip.

Why hasn't this happened yet? What other professional-class jobs could/should/will be replaced by robots?
106 posts and 6 images submitted.
>>
I think it's because it would be expensive as fuck.
>>
>>51298924
Actually, since I posted the topic, I googled it and apparently there are pharmacist robots. They cost about $200k which is what a pharmacist makes in two years, so in year three it pays for itself.

Apparently the only reason they haven't been replaced is because human pharmacists have lobbied to make it illegal.

Why isn't /g/ discussing the fact that Nvidia is now requiring you to sign up for their botnet just to install driver updates?

Implying people who use Nvidia on Windows care about botnetness.

So /g/ i need some advice

I have a pretty nice home cinema set with a player that has 2x audio in 1x digital optical and 1x digital coax. (no HDMI only out)
I have always been using the optical out on my mobo with unlocked realtek drivers to play dts/dd.

Now I got a nice digital receiver which needs to use this optical in on the blue-ray player so that leaves the digital coax for my pc.
I ordered a cool cable and all and then I found out my mobo doesnt have a digital coax out only optical. So I need a soundcard.

After I did a little bit of research I could barely find any info on soundcards that support digital coax, as there were very few, including this really cheap;
http://www.sweex.com/en/beeld-geluid/sc015/
But there is no info on dts/dd support or w/e. Do all audio cards automatically properly pass through lossless audio? Because I had to unlock my realtek drivers on my mobo before I could play dts/dd I wonder if this will also be the case with other soundcards like the one in the link.

Or should I invest more in a soundcard like an Asus Xonar xxx? Its not a billion dollar set I just want to be able to listen to all formats without much hassle. I just want to slide in a card that supports digital coax and passes through anything audio out of the box. Surely that can be done without a 200$ card right? Also I cant seem to find any soundcards that werent released at least 5 years ago, is this branche dead?

Could you guys recommend me something? Its like I arrived at a ghosttown when loking for cards

>>51299739
Here you go, it might not be of much use, but...
Get a Soundcard, like the Xonar DGX.
Most mobo audiochips do not pass signals through the proper channels you'd want them to, and are subject to EM distortion.

So, get a soundcard. Personally, I use a DGX, which has given me satisfactory quality and no problems whatsoever.
>>
>>51299936
Thanks bro! I would love to buy that card, but the Xonar DGX doesnt have Digital Coax out :(

Do you think blocking ads will be extremely difficult in the near future?

No because it isn't illegal to walk away from a TV showing an ad or illegal to not look at a billboard. Ads are optional and you cannot force someone to do something they don't want.

Steam Machines are technology.
Yesterday was official release.
They run SteamOS, which is basically Debian + Steam + drivers.
There are currently 1600+ games on Steam for Linux.

More OEMs get on board, sooner we will get Year of Linux Living Room Entertainment.

meh for the same price/cheaper you can build a mini-itx cube pc that runs all games on steam on windows or if you really want SteamOS just fine, unless you have some autistic need for a console sized pc.

So, I followed your advice guys and I'm building my own pc. I installed the cpu and an external cpu fan but when I try to install the backplate of the motherboard into the case, it just doesn't fit. What do I do /g/uys?

The motherboard is Gigabyte z170x gaming 3 and the case is Corsair carbide series 200R.

No but really they are a really tight fit.

It's a really tight fit

Also you may need to bend some of those metal prongs to get your mobo connectors to fit in
