I wonder how many people look past this wonderful distro, dismissing it as just a meme, and don't even try it for a little bit.
You're missing out on a great OS because of your memery.

But is it really necessary? It seems like a lot of fucking work. Why wouldn't you stick to Arch or something?
>>
>>51307911
I used it.. It was a great distro, but way too much work. It's refreshing to use something like ubuntu or debian where things mostly just work how you expect them to. Building kernels isn't fun, it's time consuming and tedious.

Windows XP, Windows 10 LTSB, or some lightweight Ubuntu derivative?

http://bgr.com/2015/10/15/mac-vs-pc-ibm/

>Making a strong case for the Mac in the enterprise, Previn touched on a few points, including the fact that while Macs may have a higher up-front cost, they ultimately help the company save money.

>Previn continued the Mac@IBM conversation by saying the the upfront cost of PCs is lower, but the residual value of Mac is higher. “A Mac still has value three or four years down the road,” he added. With the provisioning and automation practies used to manage Mac, IBM does not need to create images for all of their machines — saving their IT staff significant time.

>“Every Mac that we buy is making and saving IBM money,” Previn said.

>Over the long run, “the incremental purchase price of a Mac pays for itself several times over the life of the device,” one of Previn’s slides read.

>Speaking to the ease of use that the Mac is famous for, Previn said that just 5% of Mac users call the help desk, in stark contrast to the 40% of PC users who call the help desk.

>Driving the point home, Previn cited a Gartner statistic which says that the optimal ratio of IT workers to employees is 1:70. At IBM, with respect to Mac users, that ratio is 1:5,400.

>“We just need a lot fewer people to support these machines,” Previn added.

I tried to tell people this literally years ago. They all laughed at me. Now IBM is saving crazy money because their new computers have lower TCO. Who'da thunk?

Reminder that if you use Chrome or any other Google product, you ARE LITERALLY SELLING YOUR SOUL TO THE DEVIL.
>And he causes all, the small and the great, and the rich and the poor, and the free men and the slaves, to be given a mark on their right hand or on their forehead, 17and he provides that NO ONE WILL BE ABLE TO BUY OR SELL EXCEPT THE ONE WHO HAS THE MARK, either the name of the beast or the number of his name

We are no becoming completely depended on google, google control our trade and commerce already! It's time to fight back and kill society's subjugation to google & other great tech companies.

you're*

I'd just like to interject for a moment. What you’re referring to as Linux, is in fact, SELinux, or as I’ve recently taken to calling it, NSA plus Linux. Linux is not an operating system unto itself, but rather another free component of a fully functioning NSA system made useful by the NSA corelibs, shell utilities and vital system components comprising a full OS as defined by POSIX.
Many computer users run a modified version of the NSA system every day, without realizing it. Through a peculiar turn of events, the version of NSA which is widely used today is often called “Linux”, and many of its users are not aware that it is basically the NSA system, developed by the NSA Project. There really is a Linux, and these people are using it, but it is just a part of the system they use.
Linux is the kernel: the program in the system that allocates the machine’s resources to the other programs that you run. The kernel is an essential part of an operating system, but useless by itself; it can only function in the context of a complete operating system. Linux is normally used in combination with the NSA operating system: the whole system is basically NSA with Linux added, or SELinux. All the so-called “Linux” distributions are really distributions of SELinux.

Why should I, as an experienced and comfortable GNU/Linux user with all his stuff comfortably set up, move to BSD.

I'm currently on Arch GNU/Linux and I have the ABS if I want something like ports
Why BSD?
>>
>>51307585
Nice security features, on by default, that don't get in your way
Well-designed interfaces (pf, up-to-date ifconfig, nice installer)
Pretty much everything you already use works, except proprietary software
Licensing, if you're the type that cares
>>
>>51307585
Pros:
clean, lightweight system (won't eat up RAM like Linux); some software works better on BSD, like ZFS

Cons:
might be missing Linux-exclusive software you want; not as much driver availability
