Just starting out with C programming.

Why are C compilers such a huge fucking mess of shit?

I was expecting to find a simple stand-alone exe that's maybe a couple hundred KB max.

Instead I keep finding compilers like Cygwin with fucking bizarre installation processes that connect to a server and download & install hundreds of files.

When I stopped the Cygwin installer it was at 7% and had already installed nearly a fucking gigabyte of files.

What gives?
Does it really take that much shit just to translate C code into machine code?

>ib4 install linux & use gcc (I already have it installed. I'm talking about Windows compilers right now though.)

Because you're trying to do linux stuff on windows.

If you're going to do C programming on Windows your only well supported option is Visual Studio.

Do people actually use that? Like, do you really save your passwords on your PC?
>>
>>51317294
They are in an encrypted file that can not be cracked and the password for it is your head so they are actually not in your PC

>>51317294

>>51317266
Yes, I store all my email, bank, web passwords and logins in one place on PC and USB drive.

The soft itself is stable as fuck, secure, open source, convenient and easy to use. You can link your cloud storage if you want host your encrypted data base online.

Is it possible to use an external graphics card in order to boost the quality and performance of a game on a laptop?

>>
>>51317252
Technically yes, you can read about it here: http://www.anandtech.com/show/7987/running-an-nvidia-gtx-780-ti-over-thunderbolt-2
>>
Yes but you need a 2GB/s connection (like pcie 2.0 x4) to the motherboard to prevent bottlenecking.

So the only way I know something like this could work is like what >>51317501 said.

Even thunderbolt v1 delivers 2.5GB/s of max transfer speed which is more than enough for virtually any graphics card.

You would have to buy an external PSU and the shitty i5 on the laptop would actually boytleneck the GPU since they only clock around 2-3 GHz which results in poor single core performance and therefore less fps.

So for shits and giggles it can be done but just building a desktop with a proper quad-core CPU is better.

Hey /g/

I have an idea for a device that acts like a computer but is not a computer in theory.

let me first start off by telling you a dream I had. In this dream me and a group of people are giving a task to make a new design for computers. A bunch of weird shit happens and then we made a "computer" called the Morpheus Cube. it was about the size of a GameCube. But with minimalistic look to it.

Now here's how it works (in my dream). You could put a cube on top of another cube to make it more powerful. So one cube has the power of a standard computer. If you put two cubes on top of each other then it could run more intense software and programs. Stack three of those cubes and you'll get a monster of a device.

Now that you know the idea of the Morpheus Cube. Here comes the hard part.

To make it work like I wanted to work in my dream. I'll have to remake the computer from the bottom up. So that means:
>no video cards
>no ram
>no processor
>no motherboard

But a new way for the users to make a command and the cube does it and for the cube to hold information.

Do you guys have any ideas for it to work or was this just a weird ass dream

>pic related
>is how the cube looked in my dream

well how would it work?
parallel computing works up to a certain extent but requires software to take advantage of it.
we used to have massively parallel machines in the 70s and 80s but they were shit because its very difficult to coordinate.

>But a new way for the users to make a command and the cube does it and for the cube to hold information.
you need to learn to speak english first.

Hey /b/ I'm trying to make a budget gaming pc for around $400ish. I'm mainly confused as to what processor I should get. Most people have been recommending the i3-4170 since it's relatively cheap and powerful. I'm wondering if there are any other good options either Intel or AMD. I'm hoping for 1080p and around 40-60fps for most modern games.

there was a free option from a newcomer company. don't recall their name at the moment, though

Letsencrypt is only "free" right now if you've participated as a developer in their beta.

Is there a way to see all traffic across my router. My speeds have been dwindling recently. And ookla isn't reporting any throttling. I also remember performing some throttling test online, and it came back negative. Anyways I don't want to be attacking anyone, just be able to identify bandwidth usage and who's responsible

>inb4 wow TLDR. Reddit cancer kill self

Think neighbor is sapping wifi. Yes it's password protected. I will eventually call in and have the password changed, but I want to confront him if this is actually happening.
