Why is linux so good?

Well, first and foremost it's not Windows. Beyond that it's also almost UNIX. Both very good points in it's favor.

because it's flexible and, most importantly, free.

Hey guys... Do you ever thought about creating a self sustaining magnet based motor that creates electricity? Well I have... Uses Tesla's copper coil idea and a magnetbased self sustaining motor...you just push it once to start... The magnets will do the rest...

Saitek X52 Pro is pretty good for the price, X55 is also good if you're willing to spend a bit more and you have large hands.

Wym?

I think I may have a problem, /g/.
I just upgraded from an R9 280x to a Fury, and it seems like I'm getting worse framerates in games using the same settings at 1080p. Could /g/ offer any help with this?

I'd like to add that I'm also not getting 100% gpu or cpu usage in a lot of games most of the time, it hovers around 30-40%.
>>
Another note, it's not every single game. It seems like it's only certain games, while other games have a noticeable performance increase over the 280x. Mostly newer games.

AMD has shitty drivers.
You can also look forward to Chrome randomly crashing.

Why only *buntu and other distros based on it get the correct implementation for mobile discrete graphic drivers right, while other distros strugle with it?

Pic related.

Why use Nvidia Prime, when you can just use bumblebee?
>>
>>51858294

Maybe because bumblebee is outdated and not developed anymore?

Last week I compared my Arch with bumblebee with Ubuntu and in the first I got around 35 fps in dota 2 while the last one got me 120 fps.

Hi /g/.

This post is not a joke, I'm actually that autistic. I need to know something for personal reasons:

Do non-tech normies know what Firefox is? As in, does it at least sound familiar to them? I would guess it does since it's so huge but normies never cease to surprise me. I'm talking about full blown "why are you so quiet?"-kind of normies, the ones that dont give a damn about technology at all.

thats a red panda not a fox, i want my money back
>>

some do, some don't. i'm guessing the average normie at least wouldn't think you're crazy like if you mention gentoo.
>>
>>51857965

that's what I would guess, that it sounds like a big thing to them and not nerdy like gentoo, arch linux, and shit like that

however, the other day my sister told me that "google doesn't work" and it meant that google chrome didnt start kek

People of /g/, I’m in need of some good advice here.

Basically I’m at a weird point in my life, I’m in college studying something that is losing my interest more and more every day, and during the last 3/4 years I studied stuff I was interested in on my own.

My problem now is: I’m pretty good at a lot of stuff, but I have no idea how to make any of these things into more than an interest, given that the positions I’d like to apply for are extremely specific and mostly require a degree in computer science or similar (which has nothing to do with my course of studies, and basically doesn’t exist where I live).
For example: I’m pretty good with photoshop, I can edit stuff to a significant degree of quality, but I can’t draw so I don’t think I can create original art, logos etc. from scratch.
I’m also pretty good at web development, I can create a pretty standard html5/css3/php website, but I wouldn’t know where to start with a big site like a social media or an online shop, plus there’s web tools out there that can do it faster and with a reasonable outcome.
I’m pretty good at video editing as well, (let’s say what’s needed to edit a youtube video, editing clips, transitions, sound/music, text, zoom/cropping etc), but that’s about it.
And lately I’ve been interested in game development so I learned stuff about mechanics, testing and tweaking.
And the list goes on.

So if any of you have been in this position, how did you come out of it? did you choose randomly and tried to specialize in something? how did you put this self-assessed knowledge into a CV and eventually into a job?
Any advice appreciated.

>tl;dr: I have basic knowledge of many things, how do I choose something and turn it into more than an interest?

TL;DR:
> people having more than 50 open tabs.
Why? You honestly use them (eventually?)

--

Hey /g/, I want to read opinions about having tons of multiple tabs open in the browser. I was reading this post about chrome consuming RAM and when I check mine was pretty low. Mainly because on normal surfing I just have like 5 tabs max (but when I work I have like 30, but I close them after I finish).

Was talking with a friend about this, everytime he opens chrome it has like 300+ tabs. When I asking him why he answered me "because eventually I'm going to read that article" (that article was open 6 months ago, no, he's not going to read it).

Stupid people open lots of tabs.
I have 13 tabs open and that's a lot of tabs.
Each one is refreshed often though- Weather, chan boards, wikis I access often, stuff like that.
For 'stuff you want to read' there's a thing called bookmarks.

Bookmarks were literally invented for the "I want to visit this later" concept.
>>
I have 3 tabs open right now.

Are Korean 1440p monitors worth it still? Just bought a GTX970 and was looking at 1440p monitors and looks like there's been a lot of development but most brand name stuff is pretty expensive for decent specs while Korean 1440ps are going for ~260$ still

korean monitors are great for the price. only the single input ones can OC to 120hz. Contrast and blur are a problem, but you can't do better for less than double the price.

If you're within the return period, return the 970 and buy an r9 390, it'll do much better at 1440p.

I've been using matlab to an extreme level, but I realized that sooner or later I am going to graduate and have to pay for their slow environment 200 dollars + 40 per toolbox. So what other environment is similar to it? Where can I write relaxed matrix operations and stuff mainly for modelling and stuff without having to write a very strict language? Did I define python?
