What good screenrecorders are out there?

what do you use to take notes on linux..
i have so many little notes commands and errors messages i want to log but would like something more seamless than finding a terminal, opening vim, naming the file, remembering the file, not ending up with a million little files lost throughout the system; please help
Dude. I'm literally writing a 3 column Gtk note application for this exact purpose right now.
But there's this nifty app I've been using in the meanwhile - Springseed. I haven't gotten too deep into the src, but it uses a Web browser ( a la atom.io ). It's not very performance and you can tell the guys who built it are rookies, but it's pretty and it gets the job done until I'm finished with my project.

I just use Libreoffice honestly. Gives me much more control than a stripped down word processor specifically for taking notes.

I've been trying for hours different combinations of what I remember the password to be.. but I just can't get it right. It was pretty long, and it had its logic.

I got a win 7 desktop tower but no monitor. I do however have a TV that I use for my laptop to project on occasion.

What is the point of all the major browser makers turning their products into Google Chrome clones? Why don't they just shut down and put a redirect to Google Chrome on their website instead if they love it so much? It seems like a huge waste of time, money and effort to maintain dozens of different browsers that at this point are basically just reskins of Chrome. Why bother?

I was testing different flavors of Linux (using windows as my main OS) and the last time I forgot to make it overwrite the linux partition or something idk what I did and it formatted my whole drive. What can I do to recover my files?
