So I want to upgrade my old computer.

Current specs:
P6X58D premium
i7 920
8GB DDR3 1600
GTX 650 Ti Boost

I only have about 300$ to work with, though.

I'm thinking of getting an i5 6500 and a new motherboard and RAM, while keeping my video card.

Option B is I buy more RAM for my current motherboard and a better video card. That's what I did last time.

What should I do? If I take option B, what's the best video card at the 150-200$ price point?

Pic unrelated

OC the shit out of that i7 and buy a better card, like a r9 380 (just in that price bracket) and you'll be able to play a lot of the newest titles in very high/ultra

sup /g/, msi gtx980 user here.
after installing 368.22 gaming performance decreased sensibly. fallout dropped below 50fps, with only a few mods installed. the division also couldn't even reach 50 iirc. even far cry 3 couldn't quite keep stable 60. which driver version should i install to have at least decent performances?

>tl;dr gtx980 performing shitty after 368.22, what should install?

Just downgrade. In fact, with the 1000 series going at full speed at this point, just don't update drivers again.
>>
>>54823258
Hi MSI user, EVGA 980 Superclocked user here. After installing the same update and playing the same games, there was no discernible difference in performance against historical benchmarks.

Sorry you bought a chink brand. Should've spent more on quality.

I can agree with that, my brain finds it easier to work with and it's a lot more compact. The only problem is I can't use it in exams for some stupid reason...

Thinking about a new gpu. OC and performance-wise, which one should I go for? 380 seems to do better in most tests, but the 960 is a bit cheaper. Also, is there any reason to shekel out more for 390 if I don't plan playing above 1080p?

My last card was the meme 970 and I'm very suspicious of nvidia ever since.

960gtx has better oc potential than 380
>>
Don't bother with the 380 now. I got mine last year and I wish I waited for the 380x or saved for a 390.
>>
>>54823029

The gigabyte 380x is the same price as a r9 390 from sapphire.

Saw a few nice r9 390 but they are aprox 50% more expensive than the 380

Those don't work, especially for verifying emails

>>54822935
Because I wanted to use one that isn't spam filtered and for longer than a few minutes

The real question is WHY THE FUCK is my email not available now? I have other throwaway gmails that this never happened to. Wtf?

Hey /G/, does anyone have experience with creating a personal server? My buddy and I would like to create a PC that we can reach tunnel into from our own PCs, or phones.

We would just build a computer , and share files between each other through it.

Has anyone done something like this? Any ideas we might not be realizing? Any advice?

We're just spit balling , but plan on building it within the next month.

Any feedback, advice appreciated

You might be after something like Retroshare, perhaps.
>>
>>54822896
If you're just sharing files then just setup a windows shared folder on Windows or a samba share on Linux and then just port forward your router to allow incoming connections to go straight to the computer.

I read that debian with a vm of whonix would be the most secure system I could use for a pc
I can't even install debian.
Ive broke my os at least 10 times trying.
Are there any better systems and is it even worth it?

Pretty much anything you don't want to gamble on. ebay has pretty enticing offers and cheap prices but you're gambling your money most of the time. A lot of the reviews are fake and/or paid for.
>>
>>54822830
Controllers.

Especially Dualshock 3's for some reason. They sell fakes ones in droves.

>Pretty much anything you don't want to gamble on.

I've never had an issue buying camera lenses off eBay. It would be pretty damn hard to fake a Canon L lens. So hard that if you could do it, you would be more profitable starting up your own brand name lens line like Sigma or Tokina. With used you have to judge whether or not you trust the seller's description (photos; score; details). With new you have to remember there's US and "gray" market. It's the exact same item but the manual might be in Chinese and some manufacturers (i.e. Nikon) will not honor the warranty.

I've also bought old CPUs and RAM off eBay without issue so far. Another thing that's impossible to fake and if the specs are off (i.e. someone claiming a 2ghz processor is really the 2.6ghz model) you know immediately and can get a refund.

Is there a solution to frame-pacing/ micro-stutter issues on PC? I've been plagued with these issues and it's near impossible to find a solution due to all the casuals either not noticing issues like this, or mis-terming issues like 'lag'. I can run games at 120fps but they appear to be running at worse than 30 due to this (what I believe to be) frame-pacing issue.

I hear G-Sync somehow isn't a catch all solution to an issue like this, otherwise I'd be tempted to just buy one of those monitors.

Can somebody please tell me how to solve this issue, it's killing me having all this power resulting in fuck-all because of frame-pacing fucking up.

By throwing money at the problem.

If your custom loop 1080 can keep your fps locked at 60, there will be no microstutter.
