So /g/ what do you think Linus has planned this time?
Already said on WAN show. 7 players on 1 PC, like the 2-man one a few months ago but for the whole team. I'm guessing they'll do multi-monitors for everyone like Taran, Dennis, Brandon and Berkel etc.
Obviously he wants to immerse himself in a fantasy world where he's actually important, but VR is too mainstream.

Full porn immersion.
ITT: Post recommended software by /g/ for all OS's!
>wanting advice from a bunch of gamertards and grandma-tier faggots who use their computers as glorified dumb terminals
>>52201827
>Windows
7Zip
Chromium or Firefox for Browsing
Honeyview for image viewing
GIMP for Image editing
Kritia can do the same as GIMP, but I never used it. And it does much more, good replacement for something like Autodesk Sketch maybe Adobe Illustrator
LibreOffice to word processing
BleachBit for cleaning storage space
QbTorrent for downloading all your pr0n
Sumatra PDF for viewing PDFs
Windows Defender is all you need for security, backed up with Common Sense 20th century edition
Please don't recommend the use of proprietary software.
Hi /g/, my son's birthday is in two weeks and he said he wanted a gaming pc, but he was against me getting him an prebuild and wanted to build one with me. My budget is around $1400. What do you guys think?

There's one room in the house where wifi and ethernet just do not reach. Would I be better off buying a wifi booster or a better quality router with allegedly higher range?
>>52201731
Correct me if im wrong but dont boosters halve your throughput?
>>52202077
Probably, I know it basically acts as a relay and will ruin my already bad speeds but I don't want to invest in a better router only to realise it still doesn't reach that one room.

Heh
Had a mindfart.. (/question...?)
Is it possible to somehow reach every single internet used with a single message? As far as I understad it's all interconnected and by that reasoning it should somehow be possible to reach everyone... (?)
Also, interestingly, I drew a complete blank while searching/googling for this.

We need a new one
Why do people say Arch is such a "time sink OS"? I spent today installing it from scratch and it was essentially a joke. If you're coming from just about any other distro, a lot of the shit is the exact same. I literally just had to copy over my configurations and install all the packages I needed and everything works just fine.
Anyway, I'm not here to say Arch is "the best", you can easily use Linux Mint or Ubuntu and do all the same shit (I was on Mint for about 6 months), but really Arch just lets you install a system more of your own, its only a time sink if you are just clueless about how shit works.
The only thing that was a pain in the ass was installing proprietory AMD drivers.
>AMD
>not S3
it's 2001
>>52201449
>Why do people say Arch is such a "time sink OS"?
Because they think the shit about everything breaking every update just because it's muh bleeding edge terknalegay is true.
The truth is, shit doesn't break that often, and if it broke it's your own fault in the first place.
It's just a meme, just like gentoo.
>>52201449

The game has only just begun, OP.
Name a worse OS. I dare you.

This is a codemonkey free zone. You may only post in this thread if you took at least 2 semesters each of algebra, analysis, and topology during your undergrad.

Can I just call myself "programmer"? I really don't give a shit about calling myself a software engineer. Thanks.
Also I would argue that analysis (if you mean the American calculus) Is hardly a theoretical CS topics and it's easy to drift into applied purposes.
Also, what about set theory and formal languages and shit?
but take this with a grain of salt since it comes from a former CS student who went on to become a filthy programmer ;^)

A somewhat well-known author of surreal horror fiction from Germany, Lennart Poettering is mostly known for writing overly long and confusing works such as Pulsations of Autophilia (a tragedy about a sluggish autistic teenager who is murdered while fucking his uncle's Porsche and comes back as a ghost to seek vengeance) and Systems Down (about a server administrator who finds himself locked in the server room after closing time with a horrible, memory-corrupting abomination).
In a Nutshell
Lennart wants to remove the *nix in Linux, and simply call it LennartOS that borrows "wonderful" features from Windows and MacOS X. No one should care about that Unix crap, at least that's what this idiot thinks.

How do we prevent systemd to take over?
Ok /g/ which is the better overall OS Windows 7 or 8.1?
I'd say 7, but 8.1 with classic shell installed seems really nice.

Whats wrong with classic shell? It prmarily just brings back the start menu
