So, AMD Polaris and NVIDIA Pascal are coming out soon, what's /g/'s thoughts on the upcoming graphics cards?
Pascal will debut in April, and should hit store shelves in mid June, so nVidia will be first to market. Polaris is expected around August, IIRC.
My ancient Radeon 6950 just shit the bed on me, forcing me to upgrade. I was planning to wait for the new cards to drop this summer to upgrade, but this forced my hand. So I purchased an eVGA GTX 950 SSC+ on Amazon for $75 after their $80 instant gift card for signing up with their credit card, so it takes the bitter taste out of my mouth. I'd have hated to spent more money, then have the new cards out with the die shrink shit all over my now older card. So I'll likely use the GTX 950 as a stop-gap until the fall when Zen/Kaby Lake debut to upgrade my entire system with a newer card.

with HBM1 on the upper range cards against Nvidia's GDDR5 AMD will have a size advantage and a power efficiency advantage

Why is Windows XP the comfiest OS ever?
There's something about the way it looks, the simplicity and everything that makes it so soothing. Windows 7 tried throwing way too much eyecandy into our faces, and even making everything flat in 8 and 10 didn't help much.

meh. academia is basically mostly rejections and you don't really get to rest on your laurels when you get success, so it's emotionally pretty draining. but i also swept loading docks growing up and this definitely beats that.
