Alright /g/entlemen.
I got a few questions for you.
#1 How the hell did this happen
and #2 what are the chances of me getting a refund?
Long story short, I bought a screen for my laptop with a broken screen, did everything as I would any other laptop I've swapped screens for(done dozens, never had a single issue)
Opened up the laptop, removed battery, removed broken screen and respective parts; wifi antennae and LCD connector.
Reversed process, plugged in new screen put the battery in(built in under the housing of laptop) and then boom smoke came up from my laptop, shorted the connector and now I have a dead motherboard and a new screen with a fried connector
I'm under the assumption this was the screens fault - perhaps the connectors we're damaged and shorted and sent more voltage than was supposed to be sent through them? I highly doubt it had anything to do with the motherboard female receiving connector because you'd literally have to go in and screw it up.
How did this happen? I've been professionally working on computers for coming up on 7 years and I've never seen smoke come from a motherboard. Blown capacitors, bad powersupplys making weird noises, etc, but never literal fucking smoke. Also, I didn't even power the machine on. As soon as the battery was reseated the female connector and male connector went up in smoke for the LCD.
Ideas anybody?

The lamps in those screens are high voltage. If something like a bug or hair bridged the pins that deliver the power for the lamps, that can easily cause a fire.
Just bought a surface pro 4 for super duper cheap. It's probably stolen. am i fucked or will i be fine? pic not me, but related

Should I get a Mac, /g/? I've been mostly playing with Linux mint over the past year and never considered one. Is the top of pic related true?
You MUST get an old Mac. Cheap, fun to restore, install stolen OSX and learn how macs work just on case you get to commandeer one. Also, it's a chance to find out what normie rich kids were using back in 2006.

With both tablets and some phones using low power Intel atom CPUs, what's stopping them from making an x86 based windows phone build? The issues that people keep bringing up is that arm and x86 architecture are much different, so why not use a compatible architecture?
Since the zenfone 2 uses an Intel Atom Z3580, it's possible to run desktop windows, so why not do that with windows phone?
Bit of a dilemma /g/.
I made the mistake of showing my power level at work to one of the other nurses and made her a part list for a normie tier home PC. She didn't seem very interested and I figured she would just blow it off, and I wouldn't have to live with the mistake I made.
Well today she said she has all the parts and is bringing them for me to put it together on Friday. I know how to make a computer, that's not the problem. The problem is how do I make sure this doesn't happen again and that I don't become level 1 personal tech support?
Also dubs decides what OS I install on it. I'll just write it off to her as "well you didn't pay for a windows license".
