what essential tech items would you take with you if you where to live off the grid with no internet.

you can only choose 3 items.
27 posts and 5 images submitted.
>>
Why can I only choose three?
Can I build more tech with the three items I take?
Can I bring items comprised of many smaller items?
Does a power source count as an item? What about batteries for that power?

does off the grid mean I still have electricity? From solar panels?
>If so, a laptop stuffed with various PDFs on survival, hunting, farming, etc.
>A really good hand crank LED based flashlight
>An electric grinding wheel to keep my various tools sharp.

This is all assuming I have the stuff already such as an axe, generator, solar panels, a rifle, etc.

Has anyone ever truly thought of doing such a thing? I mean I love the Internet, but I've always kind of longed to just live on my own.
>Buy 50 or so acres in full. No mortgage.
>Build a kick ass house that can survive any sort of weather.
>Hunt, farm, but still have stuff like TV for movies. PC for gaming. etc.

Maybe pop into the nearest town (50 or so miles away) to get some stuff from the super market. Download or update some of my games from public WiFi somewhere before leaving. Just exist.

>Why can I only choose three?

Because it's a challenge of being able to assert what items you'll need.

>Can I build more tech with the three items I take?

Yes you can, only if that item isn't anything to do with establishing an internet connection.

>Can I bring items comprised of many smaller items?

Depending if it's in a package or not.

>Does a power source count as an item? What about batteries for that power?

Yes it does, you may bring batteries, but they count as one item.

Will integrated graphics ever be usable for gaming?

The premise of low memory transfer overhead for using the same system RAM and being on the same chip as the CPU just seems so much promise on paper.

Iris is already capable of gaming modern titles at 1080p 30 FPS. AMD APUs have made a lot of progress as well, and aren't nearly expensive.

Will they ever replace dedicated GPUs? Doubt it.

Just opened my new hyper 212 evo for a long overdue replacement of my stock fan and found that it had this place on it. Will this affect the heatsink's operation enough to try to RMA it, or will the thermal paste take care of it?

>>
>>55625999
Thermal paste is made to fix stuff like that, but I don't know if it's too deep.
I'd try it, OP

>>55625999
all of these copper heat pipe coolers have defects on the bottom. they don't really make an appreciable difference as long as it still sits flat. Very minor imperfections can be smoothed with high grit sand paper. Nicks like that can pretty much be ignored. it's maybe 1-2% of the total surface area. Won't matter.

That's completely normal...

>he doesn't have a 23500mah phone

It's like you WANT to have less than 3 months battery life.
31 posts and 5 images submitted.
>>
>>55625944
That would be much better if it were built into the phone. It would be less bulky and more efficient.
>>
>>55626017
I could sacrifice some thinness of my phone for an extra large battery, but it would still have to be the phone's battery instead of some weird charger cable fix which would probably get some brown kids expelled from school.

Phones are so thin and light that they give practically no stress to your hands when held, they could be a lot bulkier and still be within the limits.
>>
>>55626143
I wish that there were thicker phones with big batteries but smaller screens. I also hate the trend towards soldering the battery into the phone.

>Hello all,
>We are still not having any luck reproducing any flickering with the latest drivers. We could really use the following information from people still seeing this problem with driver 368.81 on the GeForce GTx 1080/1070 (make sure you reboot if you just updated to this driver).

rofl really nvidia. over 390 pages full of 1070 and 1080 users complaining about it and some how you don't have a single computer in your billion dollar hq that can't reproduce it?

I have the issue on my 7970, but I understand the issue, its related to memory changing frequencies rapidly. and I've a solution for it, at the cost of idle power consumption (and temps). if you have a single monitor generally it isn't an issue, however, to understand it better, see pic related for the sake of my sanity. you need to understand p-states a little bit, but I'll try my best to explain.

I have a 7970, its max p#0 is 1040/1400, if I enable hw acceleration and watch a video, it'll switch to p#6 rapidly, stock p#6 on my card is 1040/1375 (lower mem!) with this I'll encounter this flickering the monitor "jumps" and then settles after a frame or two, but its very noticeable.

in the past for older cards (4890, 6970) the fix was to disable ULPS, and thus prevent the p#4 state, so p#5 was/is my idle, that would work if I had a stock 7970 (or use the bios switch) but it won't work on my cards default bios) because the memory will still jump between 1375 and 1400 in applications. (and don't even get me started on overclocking memory, since p#6 will override your shit unless you force p#0 ALL the time).

my solution currently, in the recent catalyst drivers (for the past 8 or so months) disabling ULPS via registry or in MSI Afterburner doesn't do anything, I presume this is because AMD stopped caring if you have multiple monitors (on 60Hz), since 70+ or higher automatically disables p#4, was to overclock both of my monitors to 72Hz (good anyway since I don't drop frames in movies anymore). now I idle with p#5, the other part of my fix involved flashing the bios and making p#0 memory speed that of p#6, since the radeon bios editor doesn't support edited p#6 for some reason.

fuckin lovely, having to waste so much time with this nonsense, so no, it isn't an nvidia specific issue, its a GDDR5(?X)-is-fucking-garbage issue

Can you explain how to fix thix to me? Keep in mind im retarded but this shit caused me to trade a friend my 290 for his 2nd 7970ghz only because my shit crashes less often with the 7970. Hed be happy to return it and I just want to understand how this works so I can try and un-downgrade myself.

I'm thinking about getting the 2TB of it. Checked Toshiba Canvio and WD drives but it seems u cannot use the 2,5" drive inside on anywhere else cause of the attached usb port to the drive.

Should i go for it? Stop me if im not doing the right thing please.

What laptop is /g/ using?
Just got this vaio for 420AUD a few weeks ago, came with a battery dock and gives me 10+ hours with the dock attached.

unfortunately the dock does cover the vents so it runs a bit hotter with the second battery docked in.

do you like your laptop? how battery life?
what specs? hows performance? Does it overheat?

So, I have distanced myself from Linux for a few years, mostly out of laziness and fucking games, but I don't play so often anymore and I don't want to use an outdated version of Windows but also I don't want to use the post-7 bloatware.

I'm not extremely skilled and could not depend only on the console, though I like to use it, not ready for Arch or Gentoo yet, I hate *ubuntu since 11.xx, I'm not too fond of Mint (I use Mint at work though).

I was about to go for Debian, I used Debian 5 and 6 in the past, I like it, but was thinking of Manjaro as it is based on Arch but accesible until I get really skilled with Linux, is it nice or is it on the Ubuntu tier? (as in bloated as fuck)

I just want something that allows me to learn but if I want to make normal use of the computer it just works.

How are Fedora and OpenSuse this days? I'm so outdated.

bump because curious to find out too

Ubuntu is literally no more bloated than Arch. In fact it's probably LESS bloated because they separate the header files for each package into separate packages.

Arch and Ubuntu both compile support for everything within reason to all their binaries. This isn't even a bad thing, but I don't expect wanna be leetfags to understand that.

Manjaro is made by BRs, and you need look no further than the typeface in that logo you posted to see who its audience is.
