I'd like to clear up some erroneous information about where I stand that is circulating on 4chan and perhaps elsewhere.
I have a low opinion of Gentoo GNU/Linux.
Gentoo is a GNU/Linux distribution, but its developers don't recognize this; they call it "Gentoo Linux". That means they are treating me and the GNU Project disresepectfully.
More importantly, Gentoo steers the user towards nonfree programs, which is why it is not one of our recognized free distros.
See the GNU distros list for the distros that I do recommend.

I listened to both Stallman's and Torvald's views these days and the Torvalds/OpenSource ideology makes more sense to me than Stallman's FreeSoftwareMovement.

Most bad designs come down to one driving market force: "I want this to look like a million bucks but cost $3.50."
Because they were the start of consumer grade laptops, before that most people with laptops were just using them because they were provided by the company they worked at. They used the cheapest, shittiest components and materials to make them as cheaply as possible.

You mean aside from the fact that you can't mention AMD without being shouted down by Nvidia/Intel fanboys, even when they're not relevant? There is no way on gods green earth you can call /g/ anything other than heavily Intel/Nvidia biased, with people at best suggesting others buy AMD so the green and blue boys don't have a complete monopoly.
What pays better? Web or app development?
Depends on the employer. It's whatever their development needs are. On average I'd say web but that's just a guess.

id say app because it looks more professional to have an interactive app on a tablet displayed at tradeshow x than a choppy interactive website.
That's where the dev money is at (outside of silicon valley imo), ridiculously inflated industries where they have tradeshows to impress professionals into buying into their crap (ie: big pharma)
