A company called me saying "we found your resume online and you look like a great fit yada yada". It's for a Network Field Technician position. The catch is I'll be considered self-employed, pay is $30 an hour - this probably breaks down to about $23/hour after I pay my own taxes and health care. I'm making about $20 hour now as a Junior Sys Admin but sitting in a cubicle all day is really making me consider other options. I feel like I'm better suited for hands on than sitting all day remotely troubleshooting but I may be screwing myself here....

Do you get benefits at your current job?
>>54805678
Don't do it, self employment taxes and no employer healthcare is not worth another $3 an hour.
>>54805727
Self employment tax is only double the rate you already pay as employee. It was 15.3% in 2015. At $30 per hour, that leaves him with $25.41 after self employment tax.

How long will this last me untill i need to upgrade.
Also battlestation thread.
When the plastic starts melting it's time to upgrade to a desktop.

Probably 1-2 years at then it will start to fail all over.
Ports will need a delicate touch to function, then keyboard will go, but hopefully your cooling solution will survive. You might need to clean it out and repaste the thermal compound, but I doubt you will need to go that far to make it last. It will probably shit itself before it cooks itself.
OP here. This monstrosity was due to a combination of me having to move alot which is why i have a laptop and no money which is why i have such a dank ass keyboard. More to the laptop , This thing has withstoop so much abuse that i've wondered how it's still alive.
Does this Settings panel exist in Windows 10?
>>54805539
no.
>>54805539
the registry is such a clusterfuck that it probably exists

Careful, don't mess with Windows GUI components, you might discover another privilege escalation exploit.
The backlight on half my monitor (Acer H6 Series H236HLbid) just died and it makes it look like there's a huge shadow across half my screen.
Anyone ever replaced these before? Is it easy to do or am I better off just buying a replacement monitor.

Just buy a mac, pc's are prone to failure

How good is the nvidia geforce gtx 970m graphics card?
It's pretty okay.
It's about 3.7 good.
On a scale of red red hot to icy cold blue it's like triangle or trapezoid depending on how many of the m's you use.

Don't know which tablet to get for drawing. Want something like Surface Pro 4, but suspect they'll come out with version 5 very shortly.
Some anon recommended Asus T100 bust don't know if they meant T100TA or T100HA.
>>54805445
how are you planning to draw on that?
Who the fuck cares about the surface pro 5? The pro 3 and 4 were barely any different. The rumors on the 5 so far indicate a rechargeable pen or some other useless "upgrade".

Get a Wacom tablet.
On PC, do you generally prefer using online services (e.g., messaging) through web app interfaces or through standalone programs?
On one hand I feel like individual programs offer better performance than Web 2.0 shit running in a browser tab, but on the other hand. I dislike cluttering my computer with a new program for every service.
Web app interfaces are the feature.
>>54805392
"Apps" on PC are just tedious, if you're talking about like the Windows Store applications for Facebook or whatever
Web applications are pretty versatile and fast these days, there is nothing wrong with being delivered a service via browser
>>54805430
I'm talking about a full-fledged program, not "PC apps." A specific example would be using Thunderbird to check my work e-mail versus our webmail portal via browser.
What I would say is "wrong" with the browser service in that case is that it's less functional than a standalone program and tends to work a bit more sluggishly. Hell on the performance front I could mention something like Mutt which has a far smaller resource footprint than a web app running in a browser.
Hey /g/, where is the best place to create a safe, secure and private email account? Perhaps some Russian website?
Get yourself a server and setup postfix and dovecot, problem solved.

set up your own server you troglodyte

Thanks my man, not sure if I can afford a server tho. Any other alternatives?
Alright lads,
Looking for a new computer cause this one is slow as fuck.
Need it to be able to browse facebook super quick, with no fucking buffering... doing my fucking head in. Also for posting on 4chan and streaming sports/movies.
Budget is basically unlimited £3,000 or £30,000 doesn't make any difference to me at all just want the very best.
Pic-unrelated.
Any Chromebook will do the job.
Literally just a 6600k and some discrete gpu

>>54805239
Could it be because the model 3's aren't physically on the market and the volt is?
I saw the video and he said because it has basically all the characteristics of the Model 3 like:
>Design
>Price
>Efficient
In my opinion, I prefer waiting 2 to 3 years for the Model 3. They are just so unique.

HAHAHAHAHAHAHHAHAHAA
hey /g/
maybe not the right place for this, but maybe it is.
i'm trying to figure out how to solve for a system of equations
with 2 variables on my ti-84 plus c silver. but not just regular
linear equations, but equations that may include x^2 or y^2.
of course, i know how to do this by hand, but for the sake
of test and time purposes, i would like to know how to do
this on my calculator. i've googled and googled, but came up short.

>>54805236
What do you mean by "solving"? These implicit equations usually have infinitely many solutions.
E.g. x^2 + y^2 = 1
Every point on the unit circle is a valid solution.

Look, I'm not very tech savvy, and I can't find anything on the Internet.
I just plugged two different USB wifi antennas, and... I get better signal and speed than with any of them individually. Am I crazy? I thought my computer would just use either of them.
>>54805002

What's a USB WiFi antenna? Nothing like that exists.
If it does exist then it might be true.

Does demonsaw actually obfuscate your IP address or is its dubious claims of "Your IP address is safe" just a buzzword.
It just seems like any other P2P file sharing system.
