Windows 10 kills fragmentation. Users are stupid. Consumers have done it to themselves. For years Microsoft tolerated a million different system configs. with various levels of patches because somebody turned windows update off: had people simply read the guidelines and installed recomended patches none of this would have been necessary.

I'm sorry it sucks for people who are stuck in the old ways, but the future is constantly updated machines. The future is no fragmentation. The future is everyone on the same feature-set. It helps improve the quality of life for everyone.

>>
You can disable updates by using Wi-Fi and marking the connection as a metered connection.

I have done this only because if I don't, there's a risk that Windows will automatically restart at 3 AM, when my machine is in sleep mode next to my bed. The restart takes the machine out of sleep mode and makes its fans whirr, waking me up at 4 AM.

This has happened twice, and it is not happening again.

I thought you also shouldn't have battery at 100% plugged in all the time, because higher temperature damages the cells. That is why I unplug when reach 100% and I've been putting to charge at 10% because that is when Windows warned about low battery

You should have said yes, but not for free.

Women have much more respect for men who take stand and demand to be paid for things rather than men who offer to do thinks for them for free.

I fix my friends' computers in exchange for drugs and/or alcohol. It's a nice compromise between not wanting to charge them and not wanting to do it for free.

1. Introduction
This document makes a case for using a BSD style license for software and data; specifically it recommends using a BSD style license in place of the GPL. It can also be read as a BSD versus GPL Open Source License introduction and summary.

2. Very Brief Open Source History
Long before the term “Open Source” was used, software was developed by loose associations of programmers and freely exchanged. Starting in the early 1950's, organizations such as SHARE and DECUS developed much of the software that computer hardware companies bundled with their hardware offerings. At that time computer companies were in the hardware business; anything that reduced software cost and made more programs available made the hardware companies more competitive.

This model changed in the 1960's. In 1965 ADR developed the first licensed software product independent of a hardware company. ADR was competing against a free IBM package originally developed by IBM customers. ADR patented their software in 1968. To stop sharing of their program, they provided it under an equipment lease in which payment was spread over the lifetime of the product. ADR thus retained ownership and could control resale and reuse.

In 1969 the US Department of Justice charged IBM with destroying businesses by bundling free software with IBM hardware. As a result of this suit, IBM unbundled its software; that is, software became independent products separate from hardware.

In 1968 Informatics introduced the first commercial killer-app and rapidly established the concept of the software product, the software company, and very high rates of return. Informatics developed the perpetual license which is now standard throughout the computer industry, wherein ownership is never transferred to the customer.

>In contrast to the GPL, which is designed to prevent the proprietary commercialization of Open Source code, the BSD license places minimal restrictions on future behavior. This allows BSD code to remain Open Source or become integrated into commercial solutions, as a project's or company's needs change. In other words, the BSD license does not become a legal time-bomb at any point in the development process.

BSD is literally cancer! How about we get rid of capitalism and all commerce, then there woild be no nee for GPL to protect us from corperate BS.

Is $6,000k a month a good salary in Paolo Alto?
Got this job offer from a startup there, I need to fly there all the way from India, but I'm worried about taxes and rent.

$72 is a bit low for the valley. depends on what the startup is.
do you get points or something?

72 is livable but is not a great salary for Palo Alto. I got an entry level job for a large corp in Mountain View for $100k a year. Granted, that was not a startup. If I were you I would negotiate higher.

*I don't know how much all of my H1-B Indian coworkers make though I suspect that they make less.

I heard a radio story that if silicon valley employed as many women as men they would make way more money. I don't get it? Is it because companies traditionally pay women less? (Cmon sjw's you know it's an ugly truth). I don't really give a toot either way. In fact - I honestly like diversity as opposed to working with a room full of fat greasy white weirdos who tell tales of fortran, cobol & dot matrix printers.

But how does genitalia really effect the fiscal bottom line?

>>

AFAIK, the reasoning behind "more women, more money" argument is that having more diversity somehow results in better products because you have a larger amount of people with different perspectives in life. And these better products, because they were overseen by more diverse perspectives get picked up by a larger userbase because the population of men is smaller than the population of men+women. Now that you have a larger userbase, you earn more money. Therefore more diversity = more money.

You can laugh at the above and call it mental gymnastics, but this is basically their reasoning as far as I see.

Hey guys I am a freshman level engineering student and I was wondering if anyone could help me out. So this is the very first year of teaching for my Iranian Professor. She is a very kind woman and she definitely cares about her job. That being said...she sucks at teaching C++. The last few years all of the students in the class have passed with A's and B's. This year however, everyone failed the very first exam... I am hear to ask if anyone can help me solve this particular assignment that was given to us for the night. (She has not explained what the output should look like. Let alone the fact that we covered constructors for about 10 minutes and that was it.) Oh, and just out of curiosity, how long should it take to pick up on C++ programming? Sometimes I worry that maybe i'm just an idiot but then I realize the whole class is failing. (None of us have ever even worked with programming.) Thanks in advance

Hey /g/,

Looking at upgrading my gpus this summer since I'm still running on a GTX 670. I've read that nvidia won't be launching the pascal equivalent of the 980 TI until around Christmas, which is longer than I want to wait. Will any of the pascal gpus released this summer perform better than the 980 TI or should I just pull the trigger and buy one now? Are there any other advantages of waiting for the Pascal gpus that I should know about?

the 1070 will probably outperform the 980ti and will cost less.
wait a few more months.

Thanks. If it's priced similar to the 970 I'll be able to save some money and put it towards an ultrawide monitor.

Nvidia have stopped production of high end Maxlel now, so the new cards aren't far off.

Either wait or buy a 980 Ti dirt cheap when the inevitable fire sale happens.
