Intended for users of all levels, including absolute beginners.

There are three ways to try Linux, you can:

1) Install a Linux OS on a VM (Virtual Machine/VirtualBox) for "safety purposes"
2) Use the Live ISO directly without installing anything, that way, you can get a "full Linux experience".
3) Go balls deep and overwrite everything with GNU/Linux (not recommended)

If you are serious about switching to Linux and if you have Windows dual-booted (recommended for pure newbies),
we recommend you use it exclusively for 2 weeks, and avoid Windows dual booting for that period of time, or it's
likely you will start retreating back to windows instead of getting used to Linux as your new home and working on
making it feel the way you want it.

>Recommended for beginners:
-*buntus except vanilla Ubuntu (Unity)
-Debian (For Broadcom devices, use an ISO that includes non-free firmware)
-openSUSE
-LinuxMint (a.k.a Ubuntu LTS + Cinnamon)

Before asking, please find the answers to your questions in resources.

Please be civil, notice the "Friendly" in every Friendly Linux Thread.

For some reason gtkmm 2.24.4 keeps giving me emake failed messages. Installing newer versions works fine, but what I'm trying to install requires that specific version. Any idea what I can do to fix?

You might've disconnected the USB drive, try installing it again
>>
You should be able to simply google the problem dude. Debian includes a line in their config for package sources to use the cd.

Maybe in 10 years there will be something equivalent to it.

Because i'm not a faggot who hoards useless as shit old hardware.

I could keep shit on a pointless 80gb hard drive, or i could put it in a single folder of my 2tb.
And then in 5 years i'll just put the entire 2tb on my 8tb drive, and then in another 5 years

Now we have no tape backups.

Nvidiots will find a way to defend this
133 posts and 28 images submitted.

It's quite simple really. The bulk of all sales occur within the first month or so. All they have to do is make AMD look bad for a month or two and they're golden. In this case, they pay several major media outlets to release benchmarks showing the Fury X gobbling up way more power than the 980 ti, Nvidia collects 90% of all sales from their product, then months later the truth comes out. Rinse and repeat for every major release. This time it's power usage, next time it will be day one drivers. In the end, AMD products always meet or exceed parity and are of a better value. Stupid people will never realize this. They follow what the media tells them and don't bother looking at trends.
>>
>most power hungry 980ti gpu uses 6.7% more watts than Fury X

>980 ti beats fury x in Performance

Yea nothing seems out of the ordinary here desu senpai

Greetings!

Previous thread: >>51463660

I am rebuilding the site, to make it load faster, and be a bit more user friendly.

Major goals:
-Site loads the correct parts table for your country, if the country is covered (previously loaded the US by default)
-Site loads faster (previously ~30 seconds, now ~6 seconds)

Minor goals:
-Site is more mobile friendly, and more friendly to those with smaller resolution screens

Previous bugs/issues that I have tried to fix:
-Header floats and takes up too much. Header now no longer floats.
-People do not like ipinfo (and have it blocked). Changed to ip-api.
-People with uMatrix addon installed disabled ipinfo. Site now defaults to loading the US if uMatrix blocks it from finding your country.
-Titles not correctly aligned. Should aligned now.
-Table was too wide. Should have a max width now.
-Weird white space under the video section. Fixed.
-Some images do not show in the popup when you hover over some parts. Fixed.

Items that I have added to the to-do list:
-Provide better fallback for users who have javascript disabled.

Hopefully, I have the major things fixed.

Please check it out:
Original site: http://www.logicalincrements.com/#
Currently in staging: http://www.logicalincrements.com/staging/#!/

Let me know if you find any errors, and/or if it loads faster and detects your country correctly.

Thank you.

>>51516099
It is not the best, but it is good for mid-tier gaming. You can get the 8320 (or 8350, since the black friday deals are on), if you like.

/g/, do you trust refurbished drives? I'm in dire need of about 10TB for more media storage; 20TB in actuality for redundancy.

Newegg has 2TB drives on refurb sale for $50, though they're HGST. I'm not sure what to do. This seems too good to be true.

do it
>>
>>51516001
You can get 4TB Seagates for about $110 new, so I have no fucking idea why you would try to save ten bucks by trusting a refurb for your data.
>>
I've never bought "refurbished" drives, but I deal with a lot of older/used shit and honestly I'll readily trust an old drive over a brand new one since most of the shoddy ones usually die out within their first year of service, the ones that survive will usually just keep on running as long as you treat them well.
