I wonder if there was a mixup or something. Seems strange that they'd claim such huge performance increases when there are none. In fact I'm gonna say that's almost definitely the case. I'll be looking forward to seeing the actual benches. It's an exciting time for linux gaymen.

Alright guys, it's getting close to black friday, most stores are already starting to do all types of discounts and shit but I'm kinda wondering if I should get a 144HZ monitor.

>Are 144Hz monitors actually worth the extra money upgrading from a 60Hz?

I've got a BenQ GL2460HM 24" LED monitor now. Size is perfect, good quality, 60hz so I don't have any problems with it at all. But is it worth spending another £200 to buy a new 144Hz monitor? Will it really be that noticeable for me to say this was definately worth the extra cash, and I can never go back to 60Hz?

If I was to upgrade I'd probably get a 24" like the one I have now, just a 144hz.

I don't think they are, old games and some new ones have problems with higher frequency (like crashing or blinking).
>>
>>51511639
It depends on what you play.
Racing games, rhythm games, and fast multiplayer FPS? Impossible to go back to 60Hz.
RTS, RPGs, slower FPS? Not a huge difference, especially if your card isn't capable of delivering >100Hz.

>>51511672
I've never had this happen. And if it does, you can easily set your monitor to temporarily run at 60Hz.
>>
>>51511672
what

>>51511639
yes. i have been doing 60hz all my life and 144/120 is just amazing. even moving your mouse around is awesome, never mind the difference in games.

if you just use your pc for work, then probably not worth it. if you play games, especially csgo, then you'll see a huge difference. if all you do is program and browse the chans then its probably not worth it for you.

games - yes get it

everything else - no

Hello /g/,

Before I start, I'd like to make it clear that I am an intern network admin and have googled and tried multiple fixes, but nothing worked. You /g/uys are my last resort.

I have a peculiar problem that I cannot solve.
Starting 2 or 3 weeks ago, webpages have been loading very slowly on my main PC. Sometimes they fail to load alltogether, and I have to refresh the page a few times before it finally shows up.

My connection is just fine, I get 200 mbit (~24MB/s) down when downloading. It seems that once a website has actually loaded, I can browse all of the pages normally. It just seems to be the initial connection. The only exception here is youtube: loading a video would take 10 - 20 seconds, and then buffer normally at full HD.

My troubleshooting steps:
-Checked to see if the browser (Firefox) was causing it. Problem remains the same in IE.
-Checked 2 other computers at home, they are fine, websites load instantly.
-Tried turning off all antivirus and security software. Didn't help.
-Changed to alternative DNS servers (from OpenNIC to my ISP's DNS). No change whatsoever. (Also did 'ipconfig /flushdns').

So basically, it's not DNS related, not bandwidth related and not browser-related. What the heck is causing this? How do I fix it?

You don't. Chances are your browser is being monitored. Check for any unknown browser extensions.

Pic related are the only extensions installed in Firefox. The problem is the same in Internet Explorer though, so I don't think it's Firefox.

Math is literally code for.how the real world looks.

Also modern computer science is all "big data" and patterns and number crunching.

Every time I try to read about it, I'm always directed to some hosting site instructing me on how to use their website. I just want bias free information.

Because of ICANN and every internet infrastructure has agreed to let them control the shit.

But no one is forcing you to use their DNS system. There are free P2P alternatives, like namecoin. But no one uses them.

/MCG/ - Mail Client General

Have you guys tried N1? Pic related from their site.

Been using Geary since I have gnome 3.18, and it's alright so far, not missing Thunderbird yet, but didn't really do much beyond reading mail, no signing and shit.

>i'm not amazing with computers, hardware and specs
>have friend who is a fucking savant with them, helps suggest things to me, best friend in real life too
>my PC is old-ish, struggle to run many games I usually play (CS:GO, TF2 and the lot) at a stable 60 fps and can barely get 10 on new games (witcher, fallout 4)
>have to sacrifice having lowest settings on many games and put up with the still shoddy fps
>friend suggests RAM, I had 4 GB at the time, he thinks I should get 2x4GB RAM things so that I have 12GB
>okay cool, I can totally run games at a faster fps with that kind of RAM right?
>spend months getting cash together
>order the RAM online
>comes in two days
>install it after some struggle
>holy fuck that's a lotta RAM, I can play anything
>play Vermintide at max settings
>I get a nice, stable 7 fps
>flip shit
>friend realises what's happened
>"oh I thought you had lag spikes dude! RAM fixes lag spikes!"
>wait what
>he checks over my specs again
>my graphics card is absolute fucking trash apparently, RAM had nothing to do with it
>he didn't notice this for almost 12 months

tl;dr spend months thinking RAM will make my PC a monster while my savant friend doesn't notice a single problem with how outdated my computer is. Boring story but I need to vent my rage at autists like myself
