What terminal emulator does /g/ use? I'm currently using terminology so that I can get the benefits of a TWM without having to commit to using JUST a TWM.
xfce4-terminal
you can do tiling in tmux (any terminal emulator)
Terminator and guake.
Cool old term and terminology are ok, but too meme to actually stick with for me.

Is there a reason why I should use anything else?

So, you set a wallpaper. Is that supposed to be impressive?

But it's awful.
What is the direct contrapositive term for deep-web/dark-web
I've been using the term 'open-net', but is this appropriate?
Example phrase:
"Hey, I'm looking for an open-net vendor for [insert research chemical here], do you know of any?"
>>54678174
clear net

"Hey, I'm looking for an ISP for [using facebook], I'm told comcast is good?"

Hey guys just wanted your opinion on the computer that im building would really like your input since i really know little about pcs and wanted to know if there were better options to the parts that i choose and whatnot.
TL:DR
I need your opinion on this.
>>54677983
You are building a similiar computer to mine, though I am putting a bit more money in I have some solid advice for you.
>Barracuda
Replace with western digital black. The barracuda is a horrible hard drive (I have owned 2) they slow down very fast and are extremely unreliable. You will get a much more reliable and better drive with the western digital black.
>Samsung 250gb
This isn't very much memory. I assume you are just wanting to stick your OS on it and maybe a few games. Some games will load faster on the SSD but if you can live with 250gb and only have a few games you'd put on it then that's fine. I would invest a bit more in the 500gb though but that's just my opinion.
I really like the case you picked and might opt for that myself. Any particular reasons you chose that case?
here is what I chose instead (pic related)
>>54678112
thanks for telling be about the barracuda and the advice on the ssd though im changing my hard drive i think i might be fine for now on the ssd. And well man to be quite honest the case I hated choosing because of the variety though i really loved the look on the one i choose and i saw a lot of good reviews for said case.
Your choice is pretty great as well are you going for a red and black build?
>>54678259
Yes red/black themed build I am shooting for which is why I shot for the H440 (though I hear it has some airflow issues) but I will try to work around them. I do plan to do some overclocking as well. The case you chose is probably superior overall but I don't like the aesthetic so much (though that is personal preference)
The barracuda drives are notorious for being garbage and you are saving yourself money, time and frusteration by not choosing one. I owned 1 TB one that failed on me in year 2 and I just recently bought a 2TB last summer and it is already starting to show the same signs of failure. I read up on Western Digital Black and apparently they are a hell of a lot more reliable and wil last longer.
The I5 6600k is a great processor for gaming, I assume you plan to overclock so the water cooler will help with that. Another interesting choice to look at would be
>http://ca.pcpartpicker.com/part/nzxt-cpu-cooler-rlkrx6101
It apparently performs better than the H100i at low fan speeds and is a bit more quiet. I might swap my h100i for that one before purchasing, haven't 100% decided yet.
Interested in a high-resolution music player, how does a 1st gen FiiO X3 compared with a 2nd gen FiiO X1? I'd be buying used.
i have an X1, its good but the UI is a little slow,
also i have some werd "click" noise when switching between 44hz and 96 hz song

If you're in the US I will no shit mail you a Clip+ if you post your Foobar ABX logs showing that you can hear a difference between FLAC and a V0 MP3.

Anybody else disappointed at how things worked out for android? At the amount of permissions we see apps asking for, with no inbuilt way of preventing them from using these permissions from the get go; with no disciplinary act against trivial use of too many permissions or clear stance from google on the matter?
The other day I tried to record the playback on android, I was not allowed. And the same way I there's restrant over extensions that download youtube content; I know it all makes sense. It makes sense, but it sucks.
In the same way as web pages, apps are getting bloated, fatter. To me there's two things to that:
1. I'm conservative towards these things, but today I made use of quickpic's wifi transfer, because some apk exporter on my tablet didn't allow me to send shit over bluetooth. Previously, it was ES Explorer with its multiple functions, they served me well. Remember when one app was supposed to do a single thing, but well done? The first example of this that I remember was mp3 downloaders that would create ringtones. Until then, it wasn't bad. And even know, there are good surprises.
2. But with this trend of one application attempting to be multiple ones, not only do I find it difficult to know what to pick and what to get rid of every new day, I also have to be wary that I don't update anything, because the new version might contain some newly added feature I didn't ask for, and call me an idiot, it's a pain in the ass to have to read a changelog (that oftentimes I can't read on the store itself) before updating something. Auto-update once was thought of as a convenience, remember?
As a result of all that, even flagship phones deal with lag. The specs improve massively, but somehow it's never enough.
I'm pretty sure that with the hardware we have now, if apps were simpler, we could be hooking up a bigger screen to our phones and doing work lower-end chromebooks are there to do. Even on an actual 'desktop' OS, like slitaz.
(1/2)
Hell, you could make a case in which you could plug your phone, slide it inside, charge while you use it, write your shit, watch your videos, code light work, do simple stuff, even in 'beautiful' material design.
Imagine, full control to the plethora of components even the most basic phones have? Imagine having to live with less paranoia because every ordinary app has access to everything, because it's easier to call an API rather than trying to work around things? Would you rather have to ask your child to open the door from the inside when you come from work, or have it open all day with your kids in it while you are away, working?
Isn't it also a shame how the Play Store lacks a history of versions? F-Droid has it, it gives the user the choice. This would very easily make the regret of updating something easier to dissolve.
And please, don't come at me saying that 'uh, you can work around it, so why are you complaining?' Because the official stance is indifference. And having to work around lazy implementation is a pain in the ass. That's literally my pet-peeve with freetards, being a wannabe freetard myself; if you can work-around somehow, no need to make it easier, better, more convenient.
I know I don't bring news on this post. I know I'm preaching to the choir. It's frustrating regardless.
>>54677780
They basically took linux and made it less functional and shoved a bunch of slow bloated java into its butthole.
>>54677815
yes, and I'm finding better apps on f-droid than on the play store. or at least I'm feeling less miserable using the ones I find there than the others I find on the google play.
I walked away from Windows and found wonders on Linux, less supported, yes, but I wouldn't trade anything for it.
I walked away from the Play Store, found f-droid and the contrast is astonishing.
I do my best to avoid activating the google account on the phone, because as soon as I do that, it's downhill. The experience goes to shit, play services, play store and google apps will update itself. All useless.
So you're interested in getting a PC, huh?
Well this one is only $199 if you agree to 2-3 years of service from our exclusive ISP partner. You'll be surfing on the information super-highway in no time!
Can I download RAM with it?

Damn I'm old.
Basically, got one of these for free. What should i use my ssd for? Should i really use it for games? I don't care about waiting half a minute to a minute for my windows to boot up. What should i do /g/?
Use it to kill yourself, fucktard.
Sell it on. They're a placebo and your data is MORE at risk.
Depending on the size, I'd use it as a boot disk and then use the remaining space for Skyrim/Fallout4/whatever. Games like the new fallout and Skyrim are huge and are some of the only games worth installing on an ssd
What are some /g/ approved programming books for someone wanting to get into hacking/pentesting?
