So, Xbox came out and said that there will be a new console and they will be pushing it out at a faster pace than previous generations.

What are the odds that the next generation Xbox would be running on a modified windows 10 operating system, allowing for virtually all titles to be simultaneously released for both PC and Xbox? Cont.

Additionally, what are the odds that standard multiplayer Xbox live becomes a free service, while crossplay and "Games for Gold" and other features become paid services with a normal monthly fee?

A console that shares the operating system with the most powerful, versatile, user friendly and largest game market platform, the PC, would surely dominate any and all competition that goes up with it.

We already see the new Windows phones acting as full desktops when it HDMI mode. And we know consoles are pushing closer to PC architecture. We see native keyboard and mouse gaming coming to Xbox one.

Its just a matter of time, isn't it?

Open to all discussion on both Xbox and ps4. Curiously to see where this technology might head.

>So, Xbox came out and said that there will be a new console and they will be pushing it out at a faster pace than previous generations.
Fuck me sideways.
I mean, I'm sure if they just used the same API's and shit that devs wouldn't be too pissy, I mean like the GameCube to Wii, but all the stupid fucking fanboys would be upset, yeah?
I mean, it's been like 3 years, right? An upgrade every 4 years is almost besides the point.
I haven't even upgraded my GPU in that time.

Still, I guess every few years they could release a new one, say, "Xbox one Rev 1" with higher specs, and all further games can either run in original mode or rev 1 mode. After that, rev 2, all games still running on rev 0, but turn off the particle effects to convince the tards to switch.

Check'd

I agree that more frequent releases diminishes the value of a console because you'll be spending money staying up to date longer.

But a new console that's roots are essentially a PC would mean there's a lot more power and features to control and regulate design. Plus the last gen consoles came out at a shitty time and technology, especially graphics and memory technology, has skyrocketed since then. A console released in 2017 or 2018 would likely have SSD's, ddr4 or GDDR5 Ram depending on implementation and possibly full x86 processors. Speculation, of course.

I think a convergence of Xbox and PC would be a fantastic thing. It would merge the game libraries, allow crossplay for thousands of users, make PC gaming accessible to the masses basically.

how long until players from all countries can play with each other without any lag whatsoever?
34 posts and 4 images submitted.
>>
Lag is the time packets take to traverse the network and therefore there is a lower bound set by the speed of light. You would have to invent quantum networking to bypass the speed of light and have every player connect via some FTL link.

simple english answer for anon: never

I whored out, /g/.
I've always been a privacy aficionado. I have a self hosted ownCloud, I use runbox email, and 99% of the apps I'm using on my phone, and the programs on my PC are FLOSS.

All this has to come to an end. I currently can't afford to maintain the server and I need a set of application and services that flawlessly work together with virtually 0 menagement time.
I know nothing of proprietary "botnet" services, so here's my list, and you tell me if there's a better alternative:

>e-mail
Gmail
>Cloud Storage
Drive
>ToDo List
Wunderlist (is Google Task any good? What about Remember The Milk?)
>Browser
Chrome (once I whore out all other services I don't see any reason to use Firefox, since the portable app is shit, and I need bookmarks synced between devices)
>Music
Spotify
>Password Manager
I will keep using Keepass because there is no reason to use any private (therefore less secure) password manager
>Finance
YNAB (can't use Mint, since I don't live in the US)

I feel ashamed. But I really have few money and few time.

You're p much goochi my Nigga

Google Keep is a super simple To-do list if you want to keep everything Google for simplicity

I wouldn't recommend Google Play Music over Spotify though.
>>
> Afford to maintain the server
What? In terms of electricity? In terms of the time spent updating it every now and then?
Where's your costs for having a server if the hardware is bought?
>>
>>52227813
Ever since today I used a Linode server.
For self hosting proposes I don't have the money to buy the proper hardware, I don't have a public IP, I have less then 1MB upload, and I don't have the time to update everything, keep up with the new features, and keep an eye on security.

Keep a hand on the case/power supply so you're grounded, and RTFM.

Make sure you put in the io shield and take care of the stand offs, and focus on cable management if you've got the room. Other than that, dont go full /v/tard
>>
Make sure to clean all parts with water because their is sometimes some dirt on them.

I used this site for reference but still can't come to a conclusion on which switch.

Red, black are for autists
Brown, blue are for normal people
Brown is better if you want it to be lighter and less clicky
Blues are better if you want a lil bit heavier of a switch and want it to be heard by your neighborhood
Anything else is a disgusting meme
