your time is worth more than the cost of a Spotify subscription. Just stump up the cash as torrenting is effort.

Hey guys. I have a problem that I cannot figure out.

I just installed ubuntu 16.04 and when it boots my mouse and keyboard do not work. No lights or anything. This problem didn't happen in the live disk or my windows partition.

In order to get past the login screen I have to unplug and plug them back in several times and eventually they start working.

Anybody know of what it might be?

I recently enlightened a friend of mine as to the horrors of the botnet by showing him all the cookies his browser was storing. Some of them happened to be from cripplechan.

Specifically, I found these:
> FALSE / FALSE 1467396567 HIRO_COOKIE data=&newSession=false&id=2992347269535&timestamp=1437260523294
> FALSE /v/ FALSE 1467256215 ninja_adm_uid cf74da5e-4bc9-72c3-cb9e-921d06fb6e33
> FALSE /v/res FALSE 1467256327 ninja_adm_uid cf74da5e-4bc9-72c3-cb9e-921d06fb6e33

One quick search on your friendly neighborhood cookie crawler later and I get these:

https://archive.is/cniWx#selection-1637.0-1637.14

>ads.yahoo.jp
>ib.adnxs.com
>adm.shinobi.jp

Going to shinobi.jp reveals that it's an advertising network from Japan:
>It explains the features in the cartoon of easy installation at that time most profitable us to display the high ad-free ad-serving tool "Ninja AdMax"!

Ninja AdMax leads to an advertising and analytics company called Samurai Factory, Inc. (https://ja.wikipedia.org/wiki/Samurai_Factory)

For those of us who don't speak machine translate, they're basically Botnet Analytics but for Japan. This means that when my friend was going to cripplechan, all his visits were being tracked and added to a Japanese marketer's profile. (Yes, they're still being loaded and checked for by the site, I imported them into a test browser and checked with uMatrix.)

What was that about "transparency", again?

The other two are cloudflare cookies

Hey /g/. Do you use it? I care about my privacy and besides a somewhat well configured Firefox (for as long as it would not bring inconveniences), I only use uBlockOrigin and MVPS hosts. I was thinking maybe installing this should help as well?

Install it, it's a good addon. It prevents websites from loading their own frameworks, instead it loads it's own. This prevents tracking and slow page loading.
>>
>>54432369
>It prevents websites from loading their own frameworks
This is not what it does. It intercepts requests to third-party CDNs and provides exactly the same file requested but from a local store. Its goal is to stop CDNs from tracking you, not websites you're already on.
>>
>>54432369
Yeah, I'll do it as soon as I finish with this browsing session. Was just curious if you guys use it as well.

Post some nice looking PC hardware, I'll start.

Recent purchase thread

Bought a T7500 workstation for $250. 24gb ram, hexacore E5645.

Supports up to almost 200GB RAM, and ECC RAM is dirt cheap.

I should say USED ECC RAM is cheap, because of corporations getting the next generation of servers.

Top one is ECC 1333MHz I should mention and bottom one is non-ECC 1600MHz (which my T7500 couldn't take advantage of 1600MHz anyway)

Context menu. I love that key. It does the work of right clicking so that you can really accomplish most everything from the keyboard.

Hi /g

My cellphone contract is set to expire soon and I have a question.

I'm currently rocking a Moto G but have been thinking about scaling down (impossible, i know) to a dumb phone.

What I'm looking for is a basic phone that has basic functions (call and text), is sturdy, with a great battery.

I hate carrying my work with me, and I hate being so absorbed into my phone constantly.

I don't care about looks, just functionality.

Thank lads!

No one is forcing you to install apps or add accounts. I could hand you a dumbphone for free and I know exactly what you're going to do. One week from now you're going to either swap the SIM over or go to the store to reactivate the Motorola.

You fucking NEETs don't understand how shitty it is to get work emails pushed to your phone. Constantly.

If you fucking losers can't answer the question or help then fuckin beat it.

The one thing it succeeded at.
>>
it was an honorable attempt tbqh. i don't think google expected for it to take the world by storm, they just wanted to put a prototype out on the market and to improve from the feedback. in a sense i think it succeeded.
we will see good AR eventually, maybe even just 5 years away.
>>
They should have taken the Blackberry/GoPro approach. Declare upfront what the "intended market" is for the device and let those users have at it in droves. (None of this exclusive beta test shit.) Then let asshole consumers decide for themselves to blow the money on something not meant for them and make it chic.

Hey /g/ so I'm looking to get a smartphone this year, up until now I've been using some flip phone but the Iphone 6 is looking pretty sweet and I've always loved OSX. However I'm also looking at some Android phones but they look complicated and shitty. What do?

You should make decisions with your money that don't involve the word "look." Looks can be deceiving.
