>man explains that a windows computer is cheaper and better
>mom some how gets mad and thinks she's being insulted on money and says she wants something that works and doesn't get virus'

>me looking at the headphones, I couldn't help but over hear it and have to pay attention

Nothing is wrong with a mac pc IMHO, but when you say that shit you want a 1200$ computer, and you want it basically for word and the internet, why the fuck are you looking to spend too much money on something as of that?

1 more. Not my story tho. someone on /g/ at one point told me this:

>Dad's friend says his computer is slow
>Knows I'm good with computers
>Dad's friend asks me for help
>sureok.png
>toolbars, flower things, a desktop buddy and lets not forget BonziBuddy
>Clean up his computer
>get rid of a handful of virus'
>computer runs like flowing river
>dude checks it out
>looks around
>expression is of the mad and sad
>"anon where is my purple monkey friend?"
>"Bonzibuddy? He's spyware. He's even been proven to be"
>"I DON'T CARE! I WANT HIM BACK!"
>Gets assmad about it and puts it back on there to shut up him up

They guy was right to suggest a windows laptop, Windows 10 has so much botnet in it now that it could remove a virus all by itself without needing any user input. and it can run all the office software she will need for school and probable even come with a free year of office 365.

They mac on the other hand bascially just says "break into my dorm room and rob me"

Quoting for interest

Ok, the Redmi 3 Pro battery is fucking insane. 5 hours SOT with music, games and social media and I still have 40% left back home.

Chinks did black magic with this thing. It does come with a very agressive greenify/amplify-like battery profile activated out of the box that limits apps connecting and getting location when the phone is asleep to a bare minimum to be functional but even adding the most important ones to the whitelist, the impact to battery life is minimal.

I had wifi, GPS, 4G and bluetooth with a Pebble Time on at all times, so no cheating with plane mode either.

Other business laptops are also welcome in /tpg/ (e.g. Dell Latitude/Precision, HP EliteBook/ZBook).
----
If you're looking for purchase advice, READ THE BUYERS GUIDE FIRST. Then post, stating budget and requirements (e.g. size and performance).
Don't buy anything OTHER THAN T, X AND W/P SERIES if you want the Real ThinkPad Experience™

Recommended models:
T420 - 14", normal size
X220 - 12.5", lightweight
----
Why ThinkPad? (also applies to other business laptops)
>Used machines are plentiful and cheap.
>Excellent keyboards - tactile feel and quiet.
>Great durability: chassis uses a magnesium rollcage for structural integrity, with high quality plastic body panels.
>Utilitarian design: e.g. indicator LEDs, 7 row keyboard layout on older models.
>Docking stations that easily turns your laptop into a desktop.
>Easy to repair, upgrade and maintain thanks to readily available service manuals for every model. Spare parts are easy and cheap to obtain.
>The best trackpoint (that red thing in the middle of the keyboard). Great for those who type a lot or hate swiping their fingers all over a touchpad.
>Excellent GNU/Linux & *BSD support.

What's the difference between KDE, XFCE and MATE?
>>
>>54640996
KDE is very windows like
Xfce is what I use, it's very lightweight
forgot what MATE was, but it wasn't very interesting

I'd either go for cinnamon or Xfce but I recommend trying them all to see what suits you best

also, if you go for Xfce install nemo filemanager, a lot better than thunar

This

Also agree that graphical Xfce system management tools can be a little lame.

So, its been like a couple of weeks since Apple Pay has been released in Canada, and I have spent more now then ever before and I don't know why :/
The fact that Apple Pay is literally accepted at 99% of stores is shocking, i can go from the dollar store to shoppers, to getting a coffee, buying clothes all without ever pulling out my wallet.
Is it just me or does it feel really satisfying to tap your phone or watch to a terminal and have it be paid?

If you're a masochist and feel that credit cards / electronic cash weren't botnet enough I guess yes, this should be satisfying.
>>
IN EUROPE WE CAN TAP OUR BANK CARDS TO DO THE SAME
>>
>>54666987
It sounds like it takes away the last bit of loss control you had.
Of course that's fun, you're not paying at all in terms of feeling like paying, but you get the goods.

I'm trying to find a new laptop for my parents.
Currently they have a ~10y old dell latitude (pic related) runnning arch. The only use their laptop for office and internet stuff.

I have been looking at chromebooks but to install linux which they want to stick to you have to open the laptop so no guarantee here.

I'd prefer a SSD no matter what size but an HDD would be okay too.
The budget is about 300€

Thanks for your help /g/entoomen
