Removable battery?

>bring back microSD card slot

Why even bother. This will not get them more sales.
>>
>>51490917
Why? the non-removable battery is 100% replaceable when it starts to fail.

How long do you go without being near a charger that you NEED a removable battery as a feature?

I need a mid-end PC and I want to build one with some decent processor. AMD sucks because everything is always outdated and slow even to use with with modern OSes like Ubuntu, Win7 and 10.

So I thought that Intel would be good, but people here hate it. Why?

I don't know why /g/ hates them but I recently switched my FX-6300 to a i5-4690k and it was a huge difference in games & editing. I'd take Intel CPUs over AMD anyday.
>>
>>51490541
what are you talking about there intel shills everywhere. just like you.
>>
>>51490629
Why they call it a botnet? How can it be possible and which type of data they send?

Also, AMD isn't botnet?

What are they and are they good? For example, LibreOffice Writer can be replaced with Abiword.

I'm just interested because I don't really need a full suite.

AFAIK you don't really have many options, standalone office productivity software for the most part hasn't been worth a shit anyway in over two decades, especially on POSIX/Unix-like platforms which aren't designed for that kind of work anyway.

What's the best x265 encoder that supports 10bit color right now?
>>
>>51491550
x265 IS an encoder. The codec is named H.265, and as with H.264, the best encoder is probably x265.
There should be 2 binaries available of x265, one limited to 8bit, the other one can go up to 16bit.

Intended for users of all levels, including absolute beginners.

There are three ways to try Linux, you can:

1) Install a Linux OS on a VM (Virtual Machine/VirtualBox) for "safety purposes"
2) Use the Live ISO directly without installing anything, that way, you can get a "full Linux experience".
3) Go balls deep and overwrite everything with GNU/Linux (not recommended)

If you are serious about switching to Linux and if you have Windows dual-booted (recommended for pure newbies),
we recommend you use it exclusively for 2 weeks, and avoid Windows dual booting for that period of time, or it's
likely you will start retreating back to windows instead of getting used to Linux as your new home and working on
making it feel the way you want it.

>Recommended for beginners:
-*buntus except vanilla Ubuntu (Unity)
-Debian (For Broadcom devices, use an ISO that includes non-free firmware)
-openSUSE
-LinuxMint (a.k.a Ubuntu LTS + Cinnamon)

Before asking, please find the answers to your questions in resources.

Please be civil, notice the "Friendly" in every Friendly Linux Thread.

Understand that much of your software from Windows will be unavailable, although maybe wine can make up for it.

Update the wiki then. I copy pasted this from the /g/ wiki.

I need some help /g/. I work as the computer tech at a small tech shop and I'm out of solutions for this Dell XPS One A2420. This guy already spent a bunch of money on it and I am not planning on giving him a refund.

Problem is the computer will not boot when left off over night or left on for a long period of time.
>When the computer is left on for a while, computer screen turns off and fans rev up really high (indicating heat issue.)
>Cannot turn computer back on unless I unplug the machine.. remove CMOS battery. Hold power button for 10 seconds to remove any voltage still in the system. Reseat CMOS battery. plug back in.
>It turns on every time I do this.
>Regular shut downs and turning it back on work normally.
>only doesn't work when it's off for several hours.

Like I said. I'm out of solutions. I also did try using a different CMOS battery. Same issue.
Anyone got anything?

Also just to note: I did update the BIOS. I'm prepared to use an older version of the BIOS. I have not tried that yet. But I'm hoping maybe there is a better solution instead of me just grasping at straws.

have you read through the service manual?

How old of a machine?

Could need replacement of the CPU fan, or thermal paste / grease on the CPU.

Could also be a faulty heat sensor.

Fuck these all in ones... I hate working on them.

Fuck this shit. This is giving me weird uncomfortable feelings.
Is there any public blacklist to feed mine ?

Also I don't understand. i'm testing ubuntu server, and it's on an old laptop behind my ISP's mandatory router. I use port redirection. Why do I get these connexion attempts while theyr aren't on the right external port (And said external ports are supposed to be closed by default) ?

Routers can be configured to attempt to bruteforce devices on the local network. ISPs love to serve such routers.
>>
>>51489320
did you just say that isp's like to give out routers that will try and brute force the login to ones home server?

what do they do if they manage to get the log it?

Hey guys,

I was wondering if some of you guys worked in the IT industry. I'm about to start my first job as a help desk tech and they told me I would be answering 40 calls a day from multiple offices and I would have to do tech support.

wtf? how come I can't go physically fix computers? Is it harder by phone?

It takes a lot of time to drive place to place.

If you fuck it up at all then your company would have to buy the person a new computer.

99% of the problems you will deal with are ID10T or PEBKAC issues.

Yeah, most of the population is ridiculously computer illiterate despite computers being a thing in mainstream for 20-30 years.
