It's 2016 and Linux is finally starting to grow in desktop usage.

You know what's going to kill it before it gets off the ground? How fucking garbage FOSS UX design is. So many UIs look straight out of the 90s and make hardly any sense.

There's one bright side. It's FOSS software.

What can we do about it?

Yeah, great design breh.

I'm 42 years old.

I just graduated from my local community college with an Associate Degree in Computer programming. It took me 2 years to get degree (69 credit hours). I'm looking for a position as an entry level java developer.

http://degreeprograms.gtcc.edu/computer-programing/#toggle-id-1

Why can't I find a job? I can't even get an interview. Not one. Is it because I'm too old?

yes.

no one is going to hire a 42 year old java developer with no experience.

Who wouldn't remember them? The brand died not even over ten years ago

they held onto the rapidly shifting PC market for a while by being cheap and then died as a result of competition/buyouts whatever the hell it was. People likely still own them and you can find the clunkers anywhere you find shit people don't want

There were better, smarter phones at the time. Why did mainstream take the dumbed down route?

Why was Symbian demonised for being too hard and complicated when both the iPhone and Android have grown to be Symbian clones?

I'm switching back to Linux after 5 years of working on a m$ box. I used fedora through college, is it still good or has red-hat stomped it to an unstable mess? If not Fedora what do i use? Ubuntu or Suse? Update me /g/.

I'd just like to interject for a moment. What you’re referring to as Linux, is in fact, GNU/Linux, or as I’ve recently taken to calling it, GNU plus Linux. Linux is not an operating system unto itself, but rather another free component of a fully functioning GNU system made useful by the GNU corelibs, shell utilities and vital system components comprising a full OS as defined by POSIX.
Many computer users run a modified version of the GNU system every day, without realizing it. Through a peculiar turn of events, the version of GNU which is widely used today is often called “Linux”, and many of its users are not aware that it is basically the GNU system, developed by the GNU Project. There really is a Linux, and these people are using it, but it is just a part of the system they use.
Linux is the kernel: the program in the system that allocates the machine’s resources to the other programs that you run. The kernel is an essential part of an operating system, but useless by itself; it can only function in the context of a complete operating system. Linux is normally used in combination with the GNU operating system: the whole system is basically GNU with Linux added, or GNU/Linux. All the so-called “Linux” distributions are really distributions of GNU/Linux.

This is what it looks like, you can choose any gif or static image, as well as customize every response to whatever input you want. There's also an option to take feed input into cleverbot and get a response that way.
