Welcome to /fglt/. We are always open to users of all levels, including absolute beginners.
There are four ways to try GNU/Linux, you can:
0) Install a GNU/Linux OS on a VM (Virtual Machine/VirtualBox) for "safety purposes"
1) Use the Live ISO directly without installing anything, that way, you can get a "full GNU/Linux experience".
2) Dual-boot GNU/Linux with Windows/Mac (recommended if you want to learn more about GNU/Linux)
3) Go balls deep and overwrite everything with GNU/Linux
Before asking, please search for answers to your questions in resources.
Please be civil, notice the "Friendly" in every Friendly GNU/Linux Thread.
Understand that much of your software from Windows will be unavailable, although maybe WINE can make up for it.

Why is portage so shit?
>>54177260
Because you're too much of a retard to use it.
If you play games, richard stallman thinks you're in a prison of proprietary bondage. With or without drm, games are all nonfree. Except the really shitty ones starring tux, those are okay to use.
FSF is too extreme.
>This is Microsoft's idea of "design"
>This is Microsoft's response to Steve Job's "they have no taste comment"
this...is a joke, right?

Not really
They are actually quite nice. Its suffers from Apple tax syndrome though. Way overpriced for what you are getting.
>Function over form
It's an incredible piece of engineering. You might not like the look of it and whatever, that's your aesthetic, but if you can't appreciate the hinge for what it is and does then that's on you.

GP104 looks like a mid-ranged die, expect 980Ti performance or 40-50% of GP100 performance(which you won't see until next year anyway)

Dream on, fuccboi. Big Pascal will be a 20-30% upgrade at best.

Asking "Hey guys, what's your opinion on x?" is frowned upon.
Wireless is frowned upon.
Headset requests are frowned upon.
Isolation ≠Noise cancellation
If you dislike a headphone suggestion, try giving a better suggestion to whomever asked instead of going "hurr, brand x sucks"

Isolation is relevant when picking in-ears, contrary to the template.
When mentioning your previous pairs, please take some time to mention what you think about them. It helps figure us figure out what you want and what you don't like.
Amplifier/DAC checklist:
-Is it too quiet?
-Is the output impedance too high (fixable by equalization)?
-Is there noise/EMI or hiss to it?
-Does it sound distorted as you start to crank up the volume?
If the answer is no, don't get one.

# New & Revised /dpt/ Code of Conduct #
We want to ensure that the /dpt/ community, while large and diverse, remains
welcoming and respectful to all participants. To that end, we have a few
ground rules that we ask people to adhere to.
- *Be friendly and patient.*
- *Be welcoming.* We strive to be a community that welcomes and supports
people of all backgrounds and identities. This includes, but is not limited
to members of any race, ethnicity, culture, national origin, colour,
immigration status, social and economic class, educational level, sex,
sexual orientation, gender identity and expression, age, size, family
status, political belief, religion, and mental and physical ability.
- *Be respectful.* Not all of us will agree all the time, but disagreement
is no excuse for poor behavior and poor manners. We might all experience
some frustration now and then, but we cannot allow that frustration to turn
into a personal attack. It’s important to remember that a community where
people feel uncomfortable or threatened is not a productive one. Members of
the /dpt/ community should be respectful when dealing with other members as
well as with people outside the /dpt/ community.
- *When we disagree, try to understand why.* Disagreements, both social and
technical, happen all the time and /dpt/ is no exception. It is important
that we resolve disagreements and differing views constructively. Remember
that we’re different. The strength of /dpt/ comes from its varied community,
people from a wide range of backgrounds. Different people have different
perspectives on issues. Being unable to understand why someone holds a
viewpoint doesn’t mean that they’re wrong. Don’t forget that it is human to
err and blaming each other doesn’t get us anywhere. Instead, focus on
helping to resolve issues and learning from mistakes.

Integrates with other MS software. A lot of companies like the idea of one company providing all their software. "One throat to choke" is the management buzzword, meaning that instead of vendor A blaming vendor B and vendor B blaming vendor A, you have one organization that's responsible if something fucks up.
also keep in mind that in business, the guy buying the software (IT management, a procurement team), the guy using the software (front-line IT and all the users in other departments), and the guys paying for the software (Accounting dept, who're responsible to owners/shareholders) are all different people who want different things - this is behind a lot of how fucked up corporate IT is.
