Workstations went extinct 10 years ago because commodity hardware got good enough to erase the distinction between a good desktop computer and a workstation. The same thing is happening now with smartphones, tablets, laptops, and desktops. Thanks to ARM chips and SaaS, a piece of shit smartphone, tablet, or Chromebook can give you 90% of the functionality of a low end desktop computer. In 10 years, they will get that last 10% of functionality and the last people using anything resembling desktops will be people doing massively parallel calculations on mini-GPU farms that require a wall plugin.

Or gamers.
Smartphones and other mobile platforms are garbage compared to a desktop with a decent GPU. Not only by just graphical power, touch screens aren't as good as keyboard and mouse, controllers, joysticks, racing wheels, etc.
>>
>>54163519
Mobile gamers outnumber desktop gamers by a huge margin, and mobile discrete GPUs are only going to get better.

Only basement dwelling virgins want a 4k 60fps 144Hz experience to escape their McJob and tendies. Everyone else just wants to have fun playing angry birds.

Faggot gamergaters aren't enough to sustain Intel, hence the layoffs.
>>
The desktop as a form factor is not going away. It is a logical design that will always be ahead of the power curve. People will always want more power, so people will always have desktops.

But yes, there will be much fewer of them.

The mission of /ptg/ is to promote the highest possible standards of tracker service by providing members with opportunities for professional development, by recognizing technical competence through examinations and by advancing the interests of its members.

trying to set up a Medion desktop I haven't used in 3 years. It won't turn on. The fan starts up, and it makes some sounds that seem like it's booting up, but it cuts off after like 5 seconds. After that the fan starts back up and keeps going but it doesn't boot and the monitor detects nothing. Also the powerlights never come on at all. I've tried unplugging everything and holding the power button for 30 seconds and it still won't work. I'm going to try opening it up maybe tonight or tomorrow and cleaning the insides (although I've never seen the inside of a desktop before so it could be disastrous.

I'm not all that hopeful I can fix it mysself, but what's the most I can do before sending it off to professionals? And way I can do some kind of diagnostics? Absolutely any suggestions are welcome no matter how simple they are. I haven't tried anything other than what I've described.

Thanks lads. I'll try get the model no. of the desktop for you even if it's irrelevant. You're saints.

Pic kinda similar to what I'm looking at.

(sorry for copy-pasting from last thread, unfortunate I came right at the end).

The risk of receiving fake Xiaomi powerbanks from places like Ali and even eBay are too high, always buy from known retailers that sell real Xiaomi products such as Geekbuying, Everbuying, Banggood or Gearbest.

Any anons here familiar with encryption? I need a helping hand if anyone has the time.

I'm decrypting a byte array and comparing it to the original byte array I use in the beginning of the encryption process. The two arrays match up perfectly until the last 256 bits. From that position onward (array length - 256) they become different.

I was wondering if anyone else ever encountered this problem. I have a hunch that it may be related to padding, but I checked online and the padding being used in the examples I saw doesn't match the one I'm getting .

Welcome to /fglt/. We are always open to users of all levels, including absolute beginners.

There are four ways to try GNU/Linux, you can:

0) Install a GNU/Linux OS on a VM (Virtual Machine/VirtualBox) for "safety purposes"
1) Use the Live ISO directly without installing anything, that way, you can get a "full GNU/Linux experience".
2) Dual-boot GNU/Linux with Windows/Mac (recommended if you want to learn more about GNU/Linux)
3) Go balls deep and overwrite everything with GNU/Linux

Before asking, please search for answers to your questions in resources.

Please be civil, notice the "Friendly" in every Friendly GNU/Linux Thread.

Understand that much of your software from Windows will be unavailable, although maybe WINE can make up for it.

Wallpaper pls

I have a phone upgrade coming next week and I'm completely conflicted about which phone to get. I went and looked at both of them today and they're both badass. I don't want the s7 edge, it's too big.

I was impressed with the quality of the screen on the s7 and how it felt in the hand, but the G5 has the cooler camera setup and a bit of a larger screen. I don't care about the water resistance shit or the removable battery on the G5.

Can someone point me in the right direction please?
