Welcome to /fglt/. We are always open to users of all levels, including absolute beginners.

There are four ways to try GNU/Linux, you can:

0) Install a GNU/Linux OS on a VM (Virtual Machine/VirtualBox) for "safety purposes"
1) Use the Live ISO directly without installing anything, that way, you can get a "full GNU/Linux experience".
2) Dual-boot GNU/Linux with Windows/Mac (recommended if you want to learn more about GNU/Linux)
3) Go balls deep and overwrite everything with GNU/Linux

Before asking, please search for answers to your questions in resources.

Please be civil, notice the "Friendly" in every Friendly GNU/Linux Thread.

Understand that much of your software from Windows will be unavailable, although maybe WINE can make up for it.

IRC connection details:

Hi, didnt see a flt/fglt so I'm just gonna ask here

I've got a really strange problem with my Ubuntu installation:
Whenever I boot, I have my normal desktop icons (1 shell script link, which works fine) and 3 icons for my home folder, my file system and something else and the standard xfce wallpaper

However, once I get into my File System (doesnt matter how), my desktop changes to another one, the home folder and file system icons disappear and my shellscript link doesnt work properly anymore, it just opens in gedit.
And whenever I use Chrome it asks me to reopen my tabs as if it crashed or something

I had some problems with my DE that I probably didnt fix correctly, but I dont know how I should go on about this other than a fresh install (which cant do right now)

Any kubuntu gurus out there?

Was trying out kubuntu instead of gnome/ubuntu just to see what it was like.

Kubuntu does not seem to play nice with UEFI out of the box. I havent even installed yet the live cd is crapping out.

Drops me at a commend line asking for a user name. User:kubuntu password: works but then I just have some command line and it hasnt installed anything.

Any tips for this? The Gnome release just plays nice out of the box.
>>
>>54199869
it sounds like a problem with permissions. Shell script isn't executable, wallpaper can't be set, chrome can't open previous tabs.. what did you do to your system previously?

Why do you bigots keep using outdated terminology I mean come on its 2016

Is there any reason why they can't just use "worker" instead of "slave"?

Or do they have a problem with that too?

i think worker/slave or master/worker would work
i do agree that it's problematic

This is a support thread for Meriken's Tripcode Engine English.

2.1.1 (April 24, 2016)
Improved driver compatibility and performance enhancements for AMD video cards.

"Meriken's Tripcode Engine English" is a Windows application
designed to generate custom/vanity tripcodes at maximum speed.
It is arguably the fastest and most powerful program of its kind.
(This program actually runs faster than the original mty or
MTY_CL on the same hardware!) It makes effecitive use of
available computing power of CPUs and GPUs, and the user
can specify flexible regex patterns for tripcodes. It features highly
optimized, extensively parallelized implementations of bitslice
DES and SHA-1 for OpenCL, AMD GCN, NVIDIA CUDA,
and Intel SSE2/AVX/AVX2.

Just to give you an idea how powerful the program is, the author
was able to achieve 2.4G tripcode/s for DES crypt(3)-based
10 character tripcodes and 16G tripcode/s for SHA-1-based
12 character tripcodes with a combination of multiple AMD
Radeon HD Series graphics cards.

"Meriken's Tripcode Engine English" is free software, licensed
under GPLv3 and available for free download for Windows operating
systems at the following links:

How the FUCK do I free myself from this absolute piece of shit? This is the one fucking remnant of bloated NSA-botnet garbage I can't seem to get rid of. I hate it so much, its ubiquity is such a curse. Every time I try to suggest switching to some other VoIP/IM client to my m8s, I always get "Skype is a piece of shit, but everyone else I know uses it so it's not worth it to switch/have 2 separate clients", or "Well since X isn't switching, I won't bother either". It's just an endless chain of "everyone else uses it, so I'm stuck with it" with normies that don't know any better at the heart of it. Do I just have to go the true /g/entooman neckbeard way and forgo having friends? How did you escape this botnet, /g/?

If you care about freedom, is there any rational reason not to use BSD over Linux?

gpl is freedom, faget
>>
You prefer the GPL which doesn't let corporations take free software and turn it into proprietary software, and forces the corporations who want to use the free software for their profit to make their changes free for everyone to benefit from, compared to BSD licenses which doesn't.

Also Linux is just far more advanced, has more hardware and software support, is faster, etc.
