This is my laptop,

http://www.amazon.com/Samsung-R580-JBB2-15-6-Notebook/dp/B0045QU07S

Ive had it for several years now and things are starting to "not respond" like my internet browser and skype and such. I am looking into buying a new laptop that isnt amazing but not bad. I want to be able to play something simple like guild wars on it without my computer overheating and dying. I'd prefer something with a decent battery too. What do you /g/uys think?

Reinstall windows

Downgrade some of the software such as Skype and a few others which now require stronger computers to run then when you installed them. Newer software tends to be built for stronger computers then what you have

Dos anyone know an ergonomic chair (preferably below 350$)?

1. Adjustable back support height and angle
2. Adjustable seat height and angle
3. Adjustable neck support height
4. Adjustable armrest

I see everywhere shitty chairs with fancy executive and racing/gaming looks, but zero ergonomy (fixed armrest, back support...).

I checked all of the webshops I found.

(pic is a bad example)

Check the Eurotech 4x4. I used this for a few months while working at a startup (that failed). Don't have it any longer unfortunately. It adjustable seat height and angle, two back adjustments (can't remember exactly what), and slightly cheesy but still fine adjustable arms. No neck support though.

Seems to be going for $260 online

Fucking christ, I'm trying out Ubuntu right now on a spare hard drive. I consider myself computer illiterate, but this OS is driving me crazy. I tried installing Steam, but it threw out some dependancies it needed and couldn't install. How often have you used windows, downloaded a program, only to find out that the program needs a whole bunch of other programs to run. And you have to do all of this in the terminal. If this is supposed to be Baby's first Linux, than real Linux OSs must be for maximum autists. This is an OS that won't remember any of your settings unless you sudo-setting!)(!()()( -- 59 ) -bash + tuna just so it will remember your default desktop resolution.

Operating systems are like tools. I need to screw something in. Windows is power drill. Ubuntu is a bunch of rocks that I have to look up online the propper chipping methods to form the shape of the screw driver, and this screw driver breaks every time I use it, so I have to make a new one every time I want to screw something in. TL;DR - I want an OS, not a child that needs to be babysat.

Just finished building my first computer and downloaded video drivers from the maker's website (AMD, 390) but when it restarted everything looked like hot garbage so I uninstalled them. Where can I get a decent driver package?

So /g/ programmers
lets discuss Linux(Unix-y) and other(Windows/OSX) way of coding and software/solution design.

In Linux it seems: Do one thing and do it well.
>Do one thing
make it specialized
>Do it well
make the code minimal(speed)
Goal: to make it lightweight on resources and fast
>But today we have PCs so fast(cpu, gpu, ram -wise) that Unix way seems not to be needed.

In windows it seems: Make it work, and full featured
>make it work
takes 50 more ram? we have 16g anyway, and who uses Pentium anymore? just make it do the job
>full featured
an audio player must play all media files, must have tags, cd burner, streaming, and ability to add anime background... you know, people may need those
Goal: make it do the job and have every possible need? of a costumer. and FUCK Pentium! go upgrade

In OSX it seems: make it easy, and beautiful
>make it easy
if 1% need some obscure configs, why confuse the rest 99%, if one click can do it, then one click.
>make it beautiful
that gui and animations take another 200 ram? again 16g m8!
Goal: your costumer knows nothing about programming or what "config" means, and he shouldn't.

its like using big words when arguing, though your well structured statements and accurate words, the other end is clueless of what you are saying. -regarding Linux way

so /g/, what do you think about this matter, what design way is the best?

That's the "muh unix philosophee".
Which again, has been a confirmed meme for quite some time.

None of the important stuff which make linux run adheres to this philosophy.
GNU never did (thank god for that).

It may not be needed in terms of performance, but it makes maintainability and extensibility miles easier, which is especially important for open source projects (although really it's important for everything)

Installing ubuntu to avoid the windows botnet is like shooting yourself with a .22 instead of a .44.
You are just choosing a lesser evil. Ubuntu has no distinction between free and non-free software and will happily bloat your computer with adware on a fresh install.

>want to try out Linux after a life of nothing but windows
>don't play games, do some research and find out anything I do on windows I can also do on Linux
>wipe w7 from my laptop, install Linux mint

Specs are i5 2420m, 4GB ram, gt520m, 256GB ssd I upgraded myself.

>use it for a few days, it feels slower than windows 7 every did.
>eventually get tired, wipe it again and install Ubuntu
>unity is actually decent, uses less ram than windows 7 did and Ubuntu runs much smoother than windows and mint.
>decide to try out Fedora too, gnome is nice and fluid too. Install various DEs, settle on e17 for a while, only 400MB ram usage.
>despite a very nice and enjoyable, some small bugs make it unusable after a while
>install Ubuntu mate

Why is Ubuntu mate the best distro?
300MB ram usage on boot, extremely light and fully functional. Comfy and customizable DE.

And why is mint so shit?

because his life was devoted to the concept of form over function. Assume your users are idiots and give them a carefully designed little garden to play in, since they'll care more about pretty typefaces than anything else. I find that both insulting to me as a computer user and bad for the world in general.

The seller for the one on ebay needs the model number for your monitor to program the controller board before shipping. I don't see anything about that in the aliexpress one you posted.

Does it just work with any monitor?

I don't know much about these.
