Why do people get a Mac and then install Linux on it?

What can you do in Linux (that's worth doing) that you can't do in OSX?

Sharks are landing, /csg/ sharks vs doughnuts edition

What cheap Chinese shit have you bought, and would you recommend it?

Yes, we know everything is already from China but in here we discuss the no/low-name cheap shit you see on eBay, AliExpress, Gearbest and similar sites.

It's really dumb. All they have to do is add options to turn that stuff off. The people they are targeting will be too stupid to turn it off anyways. It would make everyone happy.
>>
>Windows 10 takes a screenshot of every video file or image you view.

that one is probably my favorite. but it only works when you post that video where the guy uses the 'rsa decryptor' to reveal it.

Welcome to /fg/lt/, or as I've recently taken to calling it, /fg+lt/. We are always open to users of all levels, including absolute beginners.

There are four ways to try GNU/Linux, you can:

0) Install a GNU/Linux OS on a VM (Virtual Machine/VirtualBox) for "safety purposes"
1) Use the Live ISO directly without installing anything, that way, you can get a "full GNU/Linux experience".
2) Dual-boot GNU/Linux with Windows/Mac (recommended if you want to learn more about GNU/Linux)
3) Go balls deep and overwrite everything with GNU/Linux

Before asking, please search for answers to your questions in resources.

Please be civil, notice the "Friendly" in every Friendly GNU/Linux Thread.

Understand that much of your software from Windows will be unavailable, although maybe WINE can make up for it.

IRC connection details:
Server: chat.freenode.net:6667 (no SSL, 6697 for SSL)
Channel: #flt
If you don't have an IRC client (which you should), go to https://webchat.freenode.net/ to join the webchat.
Do not tick "auth to services" (as you probably don't have a freenode account), choose a nickname, and type "#flt" as the channel.
Google captcha, click "connect", all that.

Hi
>>
Fuck, the package compression from the AUR can be really annoying. The standard xz invocation doesn't use multicore -- and if and WHEN you do, the compression rate drops the more cores you use.
>>
>>53943299
Also another thing which is annoying, that you have to do export TMPDIR=/home/whatever to avoid some annoying tmpfs limitations when you have a limited amount of RAM and are trying to install bigger packages without resizing the tmpfs partition.

I still like it tho.

Boring / unriced desktops are welcome.

What's exactly so bad about Windows 10 again?

- Can run linux applications natively now
- Hyper-v
- Can turn off all spyware collection and just drop the packets via your router settings if you're that paranoid
- Comes with an AI waifu built in to talk to

what exactly is bad about it?

>- Can run linux applications natively now
It works like shit, firefox just crashes and shit and it only gets 1 GB RAM
>- Hyper-v
Inferior to VMWare, except maybe in the case of Windows guests
>- Can turn off all spyware collection and just drop the packets via your router settings if you're that paranoid
You don't think not being able to trust your OS isn't a flaw?
>- Comes with an AI waifu built in to talk to
Never tried this feature
>>
>>53942005
It's made by a PRISM collaborator. If that doesn't bother you then it's a solid OS.
>>
>>53942044
>It works like shit, firefox just crashes and shit and it only gets 1 GB RAM

Why would you run firefox through it????

>Inferior to VMWare, except maybe in the case of Windows guests
VMWare literally fired their entire visualization team not too long ago.

>You don't think not being able to trust your OS isn't a flaw?

I trust my OS, you guys are just paranoid when it comes to any type of data collection.
