Welcome to /fg/lt/, or as I've recently taken to calling it, /fg+lt/. We are always open to users of all levels, including absolute beginners.

There are four ways to try GNU/Linux, you can:

0) Install a GNU/Linux OS on a VM (Virtual Machine/VirtualBox) for "safety purposes"
1) Use the Live ISO directly without installing anything, that way, you can get a "full GNU/Linux experience".
2) Dual-boot GNU/Linux with Windows/Mac (recommended if you want to learn more about GNU/Linux)
3) Go balls deep and overwrite everything with GNU/Linux

Before asking, please search for answers to your questions in resources.

Please be civil, notice the "Friendly" in every Friendly GNU/Linux Thread.

Understand that much of your software from Windows will be unavailable, although maybe WINE can make up for it.

pls respond, question from previous thread:

>So guys, I switched from the Nouveau/Gallium drivers to the NVIDIA drivers on Debian.
>I immediately noticed trouble in one area: shutdown used to take like 2 seconds. Now it can take about 40 seconds. Something related to NVIDIA is causing shutdown to hang, hard.
>How can I go about diagnosing this?
>I know dmesg shows the boot sequence, not the shutdown sequence
>Anyway, here it is if you still think it's worth looking at
http://pastebin.com/rwvCdLLv
>how can I configure it to show info on the last shutdown/reboot?

Why can't you /g/turds build one good app to browse dank memes on android? All I get is clover, that, with it's latest update is all green and does nothing when you click on a pic. You click on a pic and shit faced app shows you the thumbnail but doesn't load the actual pic no matter what kinda network you're on. Webms are shit, gifs freeze. Fuckin captcha's don't work or are potato quality to view.

How hard is it to make one decent app for that?

So what has open source freedums actually done well? Where it's actually good and not just a "free alternative", like gimp to photoshop.

Compilers.
Webkit/Blink
OpenCL
LVM
MPV
Filezilla
Handbrake
Virtualbox
Blender
Krita
Docker
Open Stack

There is more than media creation, just becasue the vocal liberal arts faggots cry about muh adobe doesn't mean there are the only worthwile software.
>>
>>53950211
>Blender
Blender is exactly what gimp is. Almost nobody professional uses it, clearly you're just regurgitating names.
>MPV
Simple shit like media players are mainly about taste. MPV doesn't do anything "better" compared to closed source alternatives, just different. A lot of people would hate the lacking GUI
>Handbrake
>this desperate
It just convert files. I can code a tetris clone in 20 minutes and release it open source, that doesn't mean it's "actually good", it's too basic to even be good or bad if it just does what it's supposed to.

The only viable thing you posted was OpenCL
>There is more than media creation
Yeah, I gave one example in the OP retard. Meanwhile all the shit you posted was mainly media creation.

Yes, we know everything is already from China but in here we discuss the no/low-name cheap shit you see on eBay, AliExpress, Gearbest and similar sites.

Posting in new thread.
Whenever I try to make a gif, regardless of what I set it as- It will always come out as 10-15 fps (even if i set it as 5 or 30 fps.)
I've tried multiple programs and it happens with each one.
Would there be some sort of problem with chrome (despite being able to view other gifs at their native frame-rate fine) or would it be my computer at fault?

How can i connect an HDD from my old laptop to my new laptop?

My old laptop cannot be charged anymore, but it's not worth repairing that old thing. I have some data left on its HDD. How can i save this Data? I guess i would have to remove the HDD from the device and externally connect it to my new Laptop. I could propably do the removing part on my own, but what about the rest?

>After years under a previous regime, several prominent Internet piracy groups have adopted a new set of TV-release standards. The rules will go into effect this weekend, but several groups have already made the switch, frustrating many bewildered pirates who must now play .MKV instead of .MP4 files.

>The new rules are announced in lengthy documents, one for HD and one for SD TV-releases.

>“Since the last revision of this document in 2012, TV-X264-SD has grown and become a major section that many people contribute to and depend on. This new revision aims to update the standards from 2012 to standards suitable for 2016 and the future,” the intro to the SD version reads.
