Expect to see others like Samshit following suite. It's a race to the bottom when thinness is concerned.

Why? Beats me

For the past few years, I've used GNU/Linux as my sole OS. In a sense, it has liberated me, and changed the way that I view technology as a whole. I now try and use Free (as in Freedom) software wherever possible and not detrimental. I had to help a friend fix his Windows laptop, and I nearly vomited (I felt quite nauseous and tasted digestive bile in my throat) upon viewing and interacting with the Metro desktop. Has anyone else experienced this?

>>51629697
Just buy a smart TV and don't connect ti to your network or use the functions.

A Lumia 532 costs less than $20, that's the base material cost+labor+profit+distributorcosts+distributor profit+retailers costs+retailers profit+taxes

The 'smart' part of your 'smart tv' is just a shitty mobile SoC, it's not adding to the cost of a TV anymore.
>>
does it matter?

just don't use the 'smart' features, and for the love of fuck don't connect your tv to the internet

Intended for users of all levels, including absolute beginners.

There are three ways to try GNU/Linux, you can:

1) Install a GNU/Linux OS on a VM (Virtual Machine/VirtualBox) for "safety purposes"
2) Use the Live ISO directly without installing anything, that way, you can get a "full GNU/Linux experience".
3) Go balls deep and overwrite everything with GNU/Linux (not recommended)

If you are serious about switching to GNU/Linux and if you have Windows dual-booted (recommended for pure newbies),
we recommend you use it exclusively for 2 weeks, and avoid Windows dual booting for that period of time, or it's
likely you will start retreating back to windows instead of getting used to GNU/Linux as your new home and working on
making it feel the way you want it.

>Recommended for beginners:
-*buntus except vanilla Ubuntu (Unity)
-Debian (For Broadcom devices, use an ISO that includes non-free firmware)
-openSUSE
-LinuxMint (a.k.a Ubuntu LTS + Cinnamon)

Before asking, please find the answers to your questions in resources.

Please be civil, notice the "Friendly" in every Friendly GNU/Linux Thread.

Understand that much of your software from Windows will be unavailable, although maybe wine can make up for it.

Hey guys, the last thread mentioned a lot about Ubuntu being a botnet distro that should be avoided.

I use fedora (upgrading to 23 later today), do all Linux distros fucking spy on you? How do I avoid the botnet?

Since I live in a pretty good appartment complex and am currently getting an ethical hacking cert, I decided to practice simple stuff like penetrating networks and accessing computers and stuff like that.

The thing I was wondering, which I don't know if it's /g/ related or not, is that can I report information gotten from this to the authorities. From one of the people I got in to see some disturbing pictures of some kind of foreplay with both men and women who ended up bloody and possibly dead.

I thought at first it might be just some SSM and whatever but then I got in his chat logs that were saved in the TEMP files and I saw some disturbing shit.

If reporting this info to the police possible, do you know of a way of sending information anonymously through the police servers?

Many thanks.

Depending on where you live, what you've done may only be a civil offence; meaning police wouldn't care unless someone prosecutes you.
Check your local laws regarding computer misuse and intrusion.

Is there any reason for artists and professionals artistic domains to switch to linux then?

There's no reason for anyone to switch to Linux..
