What is H.265 (HEVC) video compression? How is it different than H.264?
38 posts and 4 images submitted.
>>
It's better

I wish it was more popular, only niche players are encoding in it right now.
>>
Uses more processing power to decode video that's compressed further.
In short you're using more processing power to get more quality out of smaller filesizes.

If you ever find yourself wishing that you had the capability to use a computer whilst out of your home, you should get one. If not, fuck it

"I need X feature that only smartphones have in my daily life"
"gee I'd better get a smartphone"

> The food/staples retailing industry is very small in comparison to computing, but I quite assure you that in my homeland of Northwest Arkansas, the cops have a record of every family with a Walmart executive in it and they know damn well better not to fuck with them. Even a low level Walmart executive isn't going to get beaten, humiliated, and falsely charged in the Ozarks.

> Ian is dead for the same reason Lance and Jonathan and Aaron are: computing, as an industry, has no will to power. Computing is filled with nerds who want to focus on their own shit and think politics is stupid. They are right, politics is stupid, and I shared a little of that attitude up until the point a gun was pointed in my face, my home was reduced to rubble, and I was being beaten and starved in solitary confinement. Computing's lack of will to power is especially tragic not only because it has the highest potential for power, but because the big players of the game realize that it does. Regardless of the apolitical nature of the industry it is being dragged into Marxist struggles anyways.

What do you think of this analysis?

Do you believe tech is vulnerable to attack from other elements in society because despite its huge wealth, it's basically still that group of socially awkward kids who lack 'power'/social savvy?

Are you fucking blind? Did you not see "Gamergate"? Did you not see what happened when the SJW tried to infiltrate tech companies?
But in a way you're right, there will be atleast one cuck telling you to go back to pol because not conforming to society scares their asperger's.

The SJWs control Twitter now, that's a pretty prestigious piece of territory in Silicon Valley...

What are you working on /g/?

why does it output incorrectly?
#include <stdio.h>

int main () {
float hourly_rate, hours_worked, gross_pay;
char input = 'n';

printf("press y to continue, n to end: ");

while((input = getchar()) != 'n') {
printf("whats your hourly rate?: "); scanf("%f", &hourly_rate);
printf("how many hours did you work?: "); scanf("%f", &hours_worked);

switch(hours_worked > 40) {
case 1:
gross_pay = (40.0 * hourly_rate) + ((hours_worked - 40.0) * 1.5 * hourly_rate);
break;
default:
gross_pay = 40.0 * hourly_rate;
}

printf("\nyour hourly rate: $%.2f/hr\n", hourly_rate);
printf("amount of hours you worked: %.2f hrs\n", hours_worked);
printf("your gross pay: $%.2f\n\n", gross_pay);
printf("do again?(y/n): "); scanf("%c", &input);
}
return 0;
}
>>
>>53855976
what do you mean? It seems to output exactly what you tell it to
https://ideone.com/Mc0QkG
Also there is a nice operator called "if" - it's syntactic sugar for switch(bool)
>>
>>53855976
>>53856086
be a real pro and use

gross_pay = hours_worked > 40 ? (40.0 * hourly_rate + hours_worked - 40.0 * 1.5 * hourly_rate) : 40.0 * hourly_rate;

Also C knows an order of operations so you dont need to apply all those parenthesis in the future.

Let's discuss the best, most secure, and most advanced operating system of 2016. Personally I've been loving Windows 10 so far. My computer runs it a lot faster than Windows 7 and it looks much more modern and nicer. The appstore has a lot of nice stuff to buy too. What does everyone else like about Windows 10? Haters and paranoid idiots not welcome.

Yeah man I agree with you. Windows 10 is the best and it looks amazing. It's eye-candy compared to OSX or Windows 8.1. Everything about it just feels so much better.
>>
>>53855869
I've been using Windows since Windows 3.1 and I have to say Windows 10 has been Microsoft's best work so far. They experimented a bit and made some mistakes with Windows 8 and 8.1, but Windows 10 is where this all pays off.I've enjoyed my time with Windows 10 so far ever since the beta, and I have never been more pleased.
>>
It is, in my opinion, the best version of Windows and the most secure. It keeps itself up-to-date which goes a long way towards keeping you safe. I also think the whole telemetry/spyware paranoia is super over-exaggerated. Windows 10 has no interest in spying on you, they just need a small amount of information to improve. I turned off the telemetry anyways and haven't had any issues. It's basically a more polished, secure, modern, and lightweight version of Windows 7.

Samsung/LG. Whichever has the specs you want for cheaper. Take a look at different display technologies eg. LED, OLED, Quantum Dot. I'd say the best value right now that'll get you a good picture would be a 1080p IPS LED, but you might want to just bite the bullet and go 4K with a 60+ inch TV

Still rocking my 2014 Moto E, it does the job but the camera is horseshit and my screen has a crack plus the headphone jack is going bad. Any suggestions for a upgrade?
>>
>>53855607
Should have bought a used Galaxy Nexus instead of the Moto E. It's pretty much the same device except with better build quality and developer support.

For a new phone, get a Zenfone2 or mi4. If you're poor, buy a used Nexus 4 or 5.
>>
>>53855645
There have been no Nexuses on my country since they stopped selling the 5, and it was still too expensive here. No Mi4 either

The Zenfone 2 seems pretty nice tho, decent value for the price. What about dev support?
