I have an impromtu phone interview today for a new web dev job and I'm afraid I'll spaghetti all over the place. Any advice?

Have the correct mindset. Assume you are talking to a friend, and don't be afraid to laugh about yourself. You'll seem much more relatable and won't be as nervous.
>>
Bonus info: I'll be doing mainly JavaScript dev

That's actually really comforting advice, thanks!

One of my coworkers conspired against me to get her friend hired in my stead. I need to gain access to her emails in order to prove I was set up and pushed out. Anyone up for the task?

Understood. I'm not bringing it forward in a civil case. I've got other plans.

Why does everyone dislike gnome so much? I can understand how people dislike the organisation, but what is the problem with the software itself?

When I switched to linux a year ago I disliked Unity so I tried KDE. That looked like shit so I tried gnome which I instantly liked. However, everyone here seems to despise it. Why though?

I don't dislike them, but boy, they sure could document their libraries better. For example, for all the cases you have to make some whacky workaround.
>>
>>54596213
They have a serious case of NIH-syndrome. They also tend to break shit with their APIs rather frequently. It's a shame because their software is solid.

Hello /g/eniuses. You're my last resort. Throughout long time I'm still facing issues related with my internet connection. Atleast once a day, mostly in the evening, my internet connection goes down. This shit became really annoying and unbearable. Problem even persists when I turn my PC to "sleep" for a night and when I power on my PC in the morning connection is already down. Same goes for WiFi (no connection) while using mobile phone and PC is in sleep mode/powered off. I've tried using every command I Google'd in command prompt (flush, renew, etc. don't remember all of them). Factory default setting or router reset does not help. Dumped my old DLink router and bought a new one (DLink as well). Changed setting mostly related to WiFi (password, SSID, etc.), tried not to touch shit I don't know or have idea in. Scanned whole Windows - no viruses/malware any other shit, and I don't download any EXE apps or any other shit that's potentially dangerous. I turned off firewall in my ESET SmartSecurity antivirus - no help. Finally decided to uninstall ESET and left with Windows Defender, again, no changes. Switched to different (less overcrowded) WiFi channel - nothing. Closed qBittorrent - still some DNS or whatever thing is missing. My PC is directly connected via internet cable to router. Changed the router-to-PC internet cable with a new one - nothing. Literally only escape is just unplugging and then plugging again router in power source. Every time it disconnects I try fixing problems with Windows Network and Sharing Center. What it shows:
>The connection between your access point, router or cable modem and internet is broken
>One or more protocols is missing on your computer
>DNS server is unavailable (or something similar)
When I try to open website in Chrome, it shows:
>DNS_PROBE_FINISHED_NO_INTERNET
1/15 times Windows fixes some problems, but then after some hours/days it happens again.

it must be the ISPs fault, call them. Check out the modem status from downstream and upstream.

your computer is too retarded to automatically renew its DHCP lease

As someone who just uses my PC for video games, is there any problem upgrading to Windows 10?

I'm not bothered by "user experience" or UI, and I have no other programs other than Steam / Battle.Net / Origin.

Is rather upgrade for free and feel underwhelmed by it than not upgrade and spend £100 next year or whenever.

Tried asking /v/ but as per usual they shitpost and circlejerk

>>
if you're not concerned about privacy or user experience and just want to play games then definitelly upgrade now for free, you'll do it later anyway cuz of game support
>>
>>54595532

Care to elaborate on the privacy aspect?

Sorry for the ignorance: I haven't read up on Windows 10 at all - wanted to make sure it was worth it first.
>>
You should definitely upgrade unless you have a rock solid reason not to. They won't do any more upstream development on older versions of Windows: they are effectively in extended support already. No new hardware support, no bug fixes that aren't security-related, and they aren't necessarily fixing low-prio security reports either. Think "oldstable Debian" level support. Yeah.

Privacy concerns are understandable, but massively overblown (e.g. no it doesn't scan your filesystem for pirated shit) and will leave people vulnerable and behind on patches. Obviously certain parties quite like that, so they're trying to scare people into not upgrading.

Distaste with the UI is, well, it's still better than 8. It's fixable. The quarter screen thing is alright, swiped back from KDE.

I have this too. You can ftp it, but windows FTP server is crap. When he said 'Install Gentoo' it was only partially the truth. You can use a live CD of Ubuntu to run in another VMware client instance, and ftp to and from it. The FTP server need only have minimal ram.

so... He was joking when he said install Gentoo, but he was partially correct for a bizarre reason.
