Can I run OS X on my T420?
With the right hardware are there any major drawbacks compared to using Apple hardware?

Is it really necessary to spend time tweaking your settings? I just run with "vo=opengl-hq".

Looking for burner laptop under $300, needs to be able to browse websites and have a good battery life. How's the T420s?
lenovo 100s. very cheap, battery is decent and the build is nice. screen is average and so is the memory, but at least it's expandable. win10 is a problem though, it's not straightforward to install linux, I haven't been able to do it. but I'm useless with linux anyway so your mileage may vary.

just checked it out, it's really lacking in terms of performance but shouldn't be too big of an issue because I won't be using windows at all. I'll be using Tails (linux distro) to be specific, so as long as it can load web pages I should be fine. Thanks for the suggestion

like I said, look up lnux instalions on it, people have a bit of trouble even installing it in the first place and then the people that did had a lot of trouble with drivers. I use it for internet and stuff and it is totally fine for that, it would be literally the perfect laptop for me if I could get mint or something on there. win10 is a fucking nightmare.

Windows tech support, yes. Linux, I know it, but only on a basic user level. I'm familiar with command prompts and their importance with Linux, bits about where my experience stops.
I just built a new z170 PC with an I5-6600K Skylake processor.
I had every intention of dual-booting Linux/Windows 7. I was planning on doing everything in Linux except gaming, and only boot into windows when I wanted to play a game.
First, I discover that Intel removed support for USB based Windows 7 installations on Skylake. Microsoft removed support for the EHCI host controller and kept only the xHCI host controller spec. While the USB 3.0 spec is backward compatible with most USB 2.0 and 1.0 functions, installing windows 7 via USB on a Skylake PC is ridiculously hard.
Now I'm being told that Microsoft isn't going to let me do that unless I uprgrade to windows 10. I'll be able to use Windows 7 for about another year, but after that I'll HAVE to upgrade to Windows 10 whether I like it or not.
Why is Microsoft doing this crap?

I like the build quality and display of the Nexus 9 (has many of the aesthetic features I appreciate in Apple devices) but the battery life turns me off.
