I'm done with smartphones.

I've never liked them anyway. But now after breaking the umpteenth one I'm completely over them and decided to go back to "feature phones". What are some good-looking simple phones that don't break? A very basic internet access could be a plus, but definitely not mandatory.

Is the Caterpillar B100 the ultimate feature phone?

My Dell 2407WFPb fried in a power surge. No big, I pull it open look at the boards and it's obviously the main board. About 50% of the capacitors popped.

Problem is the connector from the board to the LCD (?) is not a ribbon cable but just fucking loose wires and the insulation on all the wires is completely powdered. Basically touching them makes the entire insulation case snow onto the board. The wires are mostly bare now.

So my eBay replacement board is pictured as coming with a set of these wires, but what I'm wondering is how common is this and is there any way I can protect from this happening to the new (used) set? Should I be worried about the used wires falling apart before I get them installed and secured?

I understand it's the game of life but I don't understand much about it, how does it work?

Why was it chosen to be the emblem for hackers?

Because it's basically the first self-sustained moving "life" in the game of life. It's also the smallest.

There, now you can use the symbol and pretend you're part of an elite club. Have fun feeling snide.

>G.Fast is the technology in question, and it comesfrom Israeli chipmaker Sckipio. G.Fast can currently deliver download and upload speeds of 750Mbps, or 50 times faster than what your ISP likely offersyou right now. Next year, G.Fast speeds will double thanks to a new generation of chips,CNN Moneyreports. That means you could enjoy up to 1.5Gbps download and upload speeds, which is faster thanGoogle Fiber.

>The best part about this technology is that it works over regular phone lines, which means it can be deployed in most cities without having to throw huge amounts of cash at newinfrastructure. Rather than digging up roads and yards for fiber and rewiring buildings, internet companies would be able to take advantage of the technology that’s already available to them: Regular old phone lines and coaxial cables.

>G.Fast technology will be available in the US later this year via AT&T, which is looking to pair it up with the cable infrastructure it got when it boughtDirecTV. G.Fast won’t be available nationwide initially, but Sckipio says that a single phone company could roll it out to the entire country in just four years.

>Other advantages of G.Fast include its ability tosustain high speeds even in crowded areas like apartment buildings. DSL internet can lose up to 90% of its speed by the time it reaches modems in buildings, but G.Fast would only lose 5% to 10% onthe same trip.

>As for cost, bringing fiber from the street to homes can cost as much as $100,000, the Israeli company says. The boxes on the street that need to be installed for G.Fast cost $70,000 each, and it costs nothing to bring the signal to ahome.

>Linux kernel 4.6 “Charred Weasel” does come with its fair share of interesting changes.
>Many end users will notice performance improvements in the temperature control of their laptops, for example, because this version closes a quite serious bug that caused thermal throttling in some models of Lenovo laptops. Support for Dell laptops, including their Alienware gaming line of machines has also been improved.

>Embedded machines also get a boost with the support of 13 new ARM-based SoCs.
>Support for the 64-bit ARM architecture is chugging along nicely. Both performance enhancements and new features have made their way into the current kernel, which also now supports, among other things, the half-precision floating point format for binary numbers.

> Power9 processors. This hardware is typically built into high-end servers and, although Power8 and earlier versions are fully supported by the kernel, Power9 remains very much work in progress.

>Kernel 4.6 now supports OrangeFS, a modern scale-out network file system designed for use on high-end computing systems. OrangeFS provides very high performance access to multi-server based disk storage.

>Support for the Synaptics RMI4 protocol has also been added in this version. This translates into an improved support for touchscreens on a wide range of mobile devices.

>Developers have improved the drivers for many HIDs (read "game controllers") as well as for Intel's Skylake line of processors.

>Version 4.6 also improves the security of the EFI firmware, isolating its context from the rest of the kernel.

>Other security updates, including kernel memory protection by default on ARMv7+, arm64 and mandatory on x86, and more oulined by Kees Cook, are part of an ongoing effort to create "airbags for the kernel" by preventing bugs from becoming security issues.

software development is about problem solving, which you probably lack if you aren't great at math.

I've been playing around with programming for a long time but I've never really tried building a real substantial project. I want to build a shitty web forum from the ground up, complete with secure user authentication and and all that. What set of languages and tools should I be using for the backend? Django? Rails? Node? ASP? PHP? Is there anything I need besides the main web framework and a database of some sort? there are so many choices and I have no idea what would be the best to go with.
