NVIDIA's second graphics card based on its GP104 "Pascal" silicon, the more affordable GeForce GTX 1070, hits the shelves on June 10, 2016. At the May 7th event, the company was surprisingly quiet about its specifications, until now. It turns out that slower memory isn't the only thing setting the GTX 1070 apart from the GTX 1080. The company will also cut down the CUDA core count, a proportionate number of TMU count, and lower the GPU clock speeds.
NVIDIA set the MSRP for the GeForce GTX 1070 at US $379, $50 higher than the launch-price of the GTX 970, the most popular SKU based on the GM204 silicon. The company also plans to sell a premium reference-design card, dubbed the GeForce GTX 1070 Founders Edition, at $449, at a $70 premium. NVIDIA hopes to make the GTX 1070 the go-to card for Summer 2016 PC upgrades.
GeForce GTX 1070
16 nm "GP104" silicon, 7.2 billion transistors, "GP104-200-A1" ASIC
1,920 CUDA cores, 15 out of 20 streaming multiprocessors enabled on the GP104 silicon
120 TMUs, 64 ROPs
256-bit GDDR5 memory, 8 GB standard memory amount
Max GPU Boost frequency 1600 MHz
6.75 TFLOP/s single-precision floating point performance
150W TDP, single 8-pin PCIe power connector
3x DisplayPort 1.4, 1x HDMI 2.0b
2-way SLI with SLI HB bridge support
Who is this card even for.
Isn't a 980ti going to be better value when they go down in price.

How so? The guy just said that he doesn't feel competent enough to talk about it, which is a perfectly honest and valid answer.

this guy is one of the best guys at nvidia, he answered every question perfectly and was comfortable enough to talk about anything and everything.... EXCEPT async compute
I WONDER WHY

Because he doesn't know enough technical details about it?

Is the Vidya-Warez-Scene dead?
yes, until it gets cracked and you suddenly must catch up to those 25 AAA title PC games you missed in the past 3 years
>>54614062
Eh. It'll get cracked eventually.
I would play DOOM if it were cracked right now. However not being able to do that won't make me go and buy it. I dare say that's the case for many "lost sales"
The only game that bothers me is Deus Ex since I prefer to wait for the GOTY edition to buy it.
It's because there's nothing worth pirating
I need help /g/.
I'm looking for a extremely lightweight Linux distro capable of running the last version of Firefox/Chrome, LibreOffice, etc.

Now that google keyboard just had this amazing update, there is literally no other reason to use anything else.
The new update includes a mode for one handed typing for big screens, a better emoji keyboard, and an option to go to the last text field (reverse tab).

Is AMD the best choice for processors while their releases are fresh? I'll admit vishera has gotten to the point it's not worth buying new, but on release, would you get an fx6300, or i3 3220?
Would you buy an fx8320, or i4 3470?
No, I got a FX8350 and it was shit.
Just buy yourself an Intel CPU, even a Sandy Vagina is better.
>>54611614
AMD is good for budget builds. Once you have a good amount of money to waste, Intel is way better.

>mfw excel, word, powerpoint, power bi and visual studio are industry standard
>lots of people use it
>therefore it can't be shit
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Argumentum_ad_populum
industry in what sense?
- i don't write anything in word anymore; if you need to write collaboratively everyone uses google drive (provided by the company, except the summer i was at MSR, which... duh). for more serious documents, i always use latex (templates make that pretty trivial; i admit i would never dig around in a cls file).
- for data analysis i don't know anyone that trusts excel; we run R code, python (numpy, pandas, scipy), or something similar. same for data vis (d3.js, maybe tableau's products these days, but nobody likes to pay for something and tableau is better for exploration than real output; i digress though)
powerpoint i'll grant, but a non-trivial percentage use keynote and maybe half that use latex and beamer to make PDF presentations (which are (somewhat surprisingly, to me, anyway) really good)
- power bi is a decidedly business tool. i suppose if you're very corporate then everything else is a non-starter.
- visual studio is used by almost nobody that i know. everyone uses vim, emacs, sublime text as editor, and various other IDEs for more involved stuff.
>>54611234
>visual studio
>takes longer to install than Windows itself
>somehow manages to take even longer to uninstall

I'm sorry but Visual Studio is a complete garbage.
