It's not a meme you can(should) use a Linux distro as your main OS.
It's 2016 Ubuntu has developed to be a desktop os and you cannot deny it.
I have made the change from Windows to ubuntu recently. I only miss Visual Studio but I run it inside a Win7 virtual machine.
Gaymen are also able to survive now. If you have the hardware you could even do VGA passthrough.

20 years ago it was one of the most respected tech companies in the world.
It took one woman to run it in to the ground.
Their consumer tier hardware is garbage however their Elitebook and business range is probably some of the best hardware for business.

Best old laptop (<$150) for linux and schoolwork, I prefer Linux mint 17.3 cinnamon, but feel free to recommend me some distros. The laptop atleast must be able to work and not slower than death.
