So here's my dilemma: my parents are classic Bad At Computers parents. It's cute, you know? Everything is always breaking, and sometimes things have gone so hilariously wrong that I can't even figure out what they did to get there. It's not that they aren't brilliant -- they are both doctors! -- but more that they don't really care to figure it out. And why should they? They have me.

Anyway, right now their computing situation is basically one of my old iMacs, a couple of iPads, and their iPhones. My mother wants a MacBook to replace the iMac, but I'm thinking about replacing the iMac and buying her a Chromebook instead. There's something fundamentally terrifying to me about making their primary computer a laptop, especially since that's where they back up all of their photos and so on. And that way I can keep remotely administering the iMac (since it stays put) and they can have a fuller browsing experience while mobile and have a keyboard for the charting and email stuff they want to do.

But I'm worried about the Chromebook as well: they both work for huge hospital systems that sometimes send weird filetypes across, or need special apps to run, or sometimes just need Flash on an old website. Should I just suck it up and buy both a new iMac and a MacBook? Or will a Chromebook work?

Help!

Chromebooks are locked-down computers, really not a recommended buy.

Build your parents a hackintosh.

ThinkPad T420 with Ubuntu GNOME or another babby tier distro.

Buy them a tablet.

I don't know much about video cards (if this is indeed tha case)

Are those that I listed good?

I do very light gaming but the one game I play is rather intense (I think)

I have two 120hz monitors and would like (if possible) a GPU that would be compatible with both monitors

I would like to keep it under $200 if possible!

How long until the retards make a tracker and client p2p so there is no more websites to take down? just make it able to add addons to it and "subscribe" or something to different sources, is that hard?

Do companies sell their old PCs?
Do they sell it with the original hard drive?

How common would you say the use of encryption is on these machines if they are within the walls of the business/corp. ?

Could someone just data recover the HD from a corporate machine for some info?

Another thing that has me worried is GOP candidates legitimately believing building a backdoor into encryption is a good idea.

Depends on the company. I know some technology companies literally just throw their computers in the dumpster because their shit is supposed to be so secretive that once it's done for work use it's never supposed to be used again.
>>
We usually pull the drives and throw them in our grinder that we use to destroy expired drugs, then donate what's left to a charity. We give them a check once a quarter to buy new drives so they can do something with the machines. We used to use DBAN on the original drives, but after crunching the numbers, we realized just giving them some money was more economical.

Also, if you seriously believe only the GOP wants a backdoor into all encryption schemes, do the country a favor and never vote again.

Why the fuck does Mozilla insist on me using their shitty recent tabs layout?

How do I get this back to google.com everytime I open a tab? The plugin doesn't work anymore.

How's the 9.2 final working on 4S? I've been watching some comparative vids and the newest ios seems to have some major speed improvements from what I've noticed. Is it worth it? I miss a lot of apps that I was using but are now set for ios's from 8 and up. I'm currently on 7.1.2.

Did anyone upped their 4S? And yes, there's a jb out there already.

Sorry another one of these threads is here but I'm just wondering, Has windows 10 actually been improved somewhat since it's release? Is there any changes that would make the OS more tolerable to upgrade to?

Hey guys, so basically I wanna learn some more advanced "stuff" about Linux, well I've been wanting to do this for a while now but I've been noticing my windows 7 getting progressively slower and more painful to boot up, so I've been thinking about installing some Linux distro that's a bit more advanced/harder to use as I like to learn more about computers in general as much as I can.

I have already tried Ubuntu, Linux Mint and Kali Linux on multiple occasions in the past year (had to use a less demanding OS to do anything on a laptop I had, Vista couldn't run jack shit) and liked dealing with the challenges that Linux can bring you.

If any of you can suggest a distro that is a step up (or maybe a couple) from the distros I've listed that will let me mess around a little and not completely destroy my system, thanks anon[s]!

Linux isn't a special retard OS. If you want to mess around: do it on the computer of a guy you hate.
