ur mom sucks dick for less than that

In the beginning, there was spaghetti code.

And Dijkstra said, ‘Let there be Structured Programming! Thou shalt consider goto harmful and organize your code into functions with proper control flow mechanisms.’

And programmers said, ‘OK, sure we’ll do that.’

Then Dijkstra saw that code was still spaghetti and said, ‘Stop sharing state willy-nilly! Thou shalt avoid global variables and instead pass all state through the call graph.’

And programmers said, ‘Er, um, wait, really? We haven’t really figured out this functional programming thing, nor do we want to pay the overhead of immutable data on today’s machines, so what you’re proposing is horribly impractical and inconvenient for non-trivial programs.’

But the programmers did agree that shared state is problematic and that maybe they could cut back on all these global variables.

And so Object-Oriented Programming was born, and the global variables lived happily ever after disguised as singleton object fields.

Someone needs to get the eBook for this so /g/ can complete it
>>
Or you could learn proper design and cut your singletons down to zero.

Isn't your entry point always going to be a singleton? Or does it not count if you're hiding it in the framework-of-the-month?

I want to get some stuff off a phone but it's older, or at least older-style. It's a flip phone (because they're comfy and I don't use it for browsing much). The model is LGMS450.
It doesn't have a memory card slot, just a spot for a SIM card (and I don't have any SIM card readers, and I'm not sure if you can even put arbitrary data on one, this phone certainly doesn't seem to make that available).
It has options for sending pictures and video via e-mail (which I can't get to work), Bluetooth (don't have any Bluetooth devices), and text message (I could send stuff to someone else's phone and then try to get it off there but I'd rather not), and no apparent way to get any music or other audio into the phone or any way to get pictures, audio, video, contacts, or other files (it has a section for "other files" that's empty) into the phone other than the camera and receiver.
The phone uses USB to charge but I connected it to my computer and the phone and computer didn't respond (other than the phone starting to charge) and it doesn't seem to show up in Device Manager.
Does anyone know how (or if) I can move things to and from this without buying other equipment?

>expecting windows to randomly include a driver for some shit-tier 10 year old phone

topkek

buy MVNO service for it and email the shit to yourself or get the USB drivers (assuming your cable is good).

Also, for sound files (voice memos, call recordings) on those old LG phones, they used some weird ass qualcomm codec. but using the text message app to send them to an email account would automatically convert them to compressed wav files.

I was hoping it would use some mass storage protocol. I googled around some more after I posted and was pointed to stuff like what you were talking about on LG's site, I'm installing now.

want to replace my 7 years old acer 1080p monitor with something new

basically for internet, videos and little online gaming

what are useful features in current monitors?

>curved / flat
>ips / oled / TN
>1080 / 1440 / 4k
>glossy or not

any suggestion for a 24" or 27" monitor?

I just got two Asus PB258Q 25" IPS 2560x1440p monitors.

They have tiny ass bezels and look nice as fuck.

Saved $600 over getting the LG 34UC98 that I was considering, and I have more resolution this way (5120x1440 instead of 3440x1440)
>>
imo curved only benefits 21:9 monitors. you probably shouldn't get one though, unless you also need a monitor for productivity.

don't get TN unless youre fucking Islamic extremist hardcore as a gamer. IPS is a good way to go, oled has a burn in issue and is too expensive.

for resolution, do anything but 4k.
24 inch wont benefit much from it but I guess its good with a 27

>Asus VC279H

maybe some korean 1440p IPS?
and what about curved?

Any of you fa/g/s know how to pin drives and folders etc to the area inside the red circle like you could in w10 beta.

You guys are official w10 forum afterall right?

Hey /g/, ive been using windows 7 and now the glorious botnet OS known as windows 10. Ive always wanted to learn about Linux and use it for the purpose of simply learning how to use and develop it.

I was thinking of starting off with arch Linux, but I'm not sure.

What I want is something that isn't Gentoo hard, but not too easy as well.

Ive had experience with moderate amounts of coding, although they're relatively fragmented.

I recommend Debian or Fedora, not as easy as Ubuntu but not too hard. Arch might be too much to start with.
Also >>flt
>>
Installing an OS =/= developing.

It seriously doesn't matter what distro you use unless you're developing for the userland for that specific distro.
>>
>>53737446
i'll take that into consideration. thanks anon

>>53737493
my goal is basically just heavily modify the os for me. so basically just modifying it isn't really developing?

I guess i'll need to reconsider this

Sup guys, I'm in the market for replacing my definitely aging Dell XT2.
I'll be traveling a lot in the foreseeable future, and doing a lot of photo editing, along with general computing, as this will be my main computer until I settle down. I'm looking for a laptop in the €900 range, preferably 13". I long for a decent built XPS13, but it's sadly way out of budget.
I got my eyes on this computer, which looks like it's using a Clevo chassis. Specs seems good (at least it fits my bill, and they seems pretty close to the XPS13), price is within range, and there is no Windows bundled with.

Do you guys have any experience with Clevo notebooks ? I'm kinda curious how well they will hold their shit together on the long run.

Link to the computer if you want (in French, but you can easily make it out): http://www.ldlc.com/fiche/PB00204344.html

hey /g/, i found an LG nexus 4 for $60, with a broken (yet working) digitizer, it would cost me 5 bucks to fix.

should i get it ?

yes, more or less.
fixing it is a pain in the ass tho. like every phone digitizer

What does /g/ think about learning code on Codecademy?
13 posts and 1 images submitted.
>>
it focuses on making you feel like a special snowflake you writing "hello world" rather than showing you that you are actually a dumbass who isn't yet capable of making programs that anyone would use

essentially, you'll end up like this guy:

>>53727845
>>
>>53738706
it's alright
I do agree with >>53738820 but it does teach you well (in some cases) if you avoid this pitfall. I learned HTML/CSS within a week from this site and continued to learn other languages. I would only recommend it as a redundancy for learning a language. It helps as another source
>>
Its alright but it misses a lot of stuff and i couldnt finish the python course because they are too strict on you getting the syntax the EXACT way they want it to be even if doesn't matter. and the code u write in one lesson carries over to the next lesson, so if u get stuck ur fucked. which is annoying and dumb because its impossible to find out what ur doing wrong unless u search through forums or youtube like a savage.
