I'm trying to spoof my mac address with macchanger on public wifi. However, when I do so the router seems to refuse connections. What do you think /g/? I'm using the -r argument which generates a random address. Maybe there is a filter that only lets addresses from known manufacts. through?

Bumping for interest.

Manually change your MAC to something similar. Change only the last few digits.
Depending on where you are if they have a nice enough WLC managing the APs it may block unknown NIC vendors.
>>
>>53680930
No dice. I changed from XX:XX:XX:XX:e0 to XX:XX:XX:XX:b9 and it still refused connection.
Maybe it logs mac at portal login and assigns ip then if mac != IP refuse connection? This is pretty fun, actually. Come on anons!

How do these "Learn [language] in One Day" things make you feel, /g/? Also, have you tried any?
8 posts and 1 images submitted.
>>
Not mad.
'Learn' is a vague word. It takes two hours with googling to grasp a basics of any language similar to C, if you know basics of any C-like language. It's all about bit different syntax after all.
>>
If someone is capable of mastering a language in one day that person is either a savant or the language is absolute shit.
>>
Learning a language really isn't hard. The problem most people are having is understanding programing and compiter science in general.

HAHAHA what the fuck? Youtube ads have gotten so bad that they they're literal ransomware now? And people say people who use adblock should feel bad, top kek. Holy fuck, how is this acceptable?

Screenshot? They can do whatever they want on their website
>>
>>53679100
Forgot to take a screenshot, I was kind of half freaking out, half laughing out loud. Basically I clicked on a Youtube video and the screen went blue emulating a BSOD, (funny, considering I'm on Linux) and saying my computer had a virus and I needed to call a number in order to fix my computer. Couldn't close the browser, had to force it from terminal.
>>
Did some googling, found this:
https://blog.malwarebytes.org/fraud-scam/2015/09/malvertising-via-google-adwords-leads-to-fake-bsod/
Must have clicked the ad link instead of the real url by accident, oh well. The page says Google shut it down, obviously not. (Or else someone just decided to try the same thing, how lazy)

So last week I got a really short try at trying the Samsung Gear VR and I was actually surprised about how cool it was.

So when I got home I started googling , and got really excited about buying a Samsung S6 and a Gear VR. However now that the excitement is settled a little, I am wondering whether it is really worth it, or whether it's still more of a gimmick. I' m currently still using a Samsung S2 and honestly, I haven't been to bothered to upgrade it since it does what I need it to do just fine.

So what I am asking is whether people could share their experiences with it. Do you find that it's worth the money? What kind of uses have you found for it? Etc.

Don't get it with an S6 because it barely works with it. I tried it with my S6 edge and it can only function for about 15 minutes before you get a warning about your phone overheating and it needs to cool down. The Gear VR was made for the S7 with its watercooling whatever. If you're fine with 15 minute intervals, then go for it. For me, I wanted to just kick back and watch youtube videos in peace but I couldn't even do that. 3D porn was pretty great though but not $99.99 great.
>>
>>53678505
I have no experience with it, but you do. How long did you use it and can you feel the weight on your head? I'm thinking of getting the HTC Vive
>>
>>53678547

Thanks for the useful reply. I have to say that the prospect of 3D porn is pretty good, but I can imagine that the content is still quite limited and/or you' ll have to pay for it.

>>53678558
Not long, maybe 30 seconds. I wasn't bothered by the weight at all, but I' m not sure if that says a lot, seeing as I only tried it for such a short time.

Hey /g/, what would you do if you ended up with 2-3 old laptops? I'll probably use one as a server and run Folding@home on it, but I'm wondering about the possibilities of suddenly having so many computers at my disposal.

I already have a primary laptop and a desktop I hardly use, and two monitors. But I don't have a large desk so even if I wanted to I'm not just going to run them all side by side to pretend I'm a hardcore multitasker.

Let's hear some cool or ludicrous ideas.

sell em. there is no reason to use a laptop as a server, they have a hard time keeping cool anyways.

sure, but there are many UPS's available for cheap. just my suggestion. you could use them to play around with linux distros, maybe make a PXE server

What phone/rom should I use in order not to get royally probed by google while still retaining the features/usability of a modern smartphone?

Is pic related a good solution? If so, what phone should I buy and install this on?

Performance is not very important to me, but decent battery life and a good camera would be nice.

Stay on stock and remove the useless google apps.

There's no other way if you want to the usability of a modern phone and a good camera.

Custom ROMs often have total shit cameras.
>>
>>53679042
That's really only relevant for phones like the xperia z series, where the image processor can't be used without certain keys only available in the stock rom.

>>53677962
A Nexus 5x or 6p, install Cyanogenmod without GAPPS. Install Xposed privacy to limit what harmful apps can read (or only install non-harmful apps from f-droid). If you have to use whatsapp, get it from their site, they are kind enough to provide a apk. Finally, if you have to use google services like maps, mail or whatever, get gapps browser from f-droid (https://f-droid.org/repository/browse/?fdid=com.tobykurien.google_news). For everything else, there are free replacements. Even for google maps you should really use osmand but then there are some situations in which it would be nice to have access to google maps.
>>
>>53679161
Oh yeah and I would not trust any other roms besides CM and maybe replicant. If you can't compile/build the rom yourself, don't put your faith in some 13 year old indian kid. Just use Cyanogenmod or AOSP (maybe even stock if you don't mind google services)

My original Logitech MX Revolution is on the blink and I need something similar to replace it with. I'm not sure whether to go the wired mouse route or not. Even so when I look at the price of mice (especially gaymen mice) the prices are ludicrous!

MX Master. If you can afford it, you won't regret spending the money.

If you really can't, maybe a Logitech G400, G402? Corsair Sabre? Or the master-race Microsoft Intelimouse Explorer 3.0
>>
If you are already used to the shape, get an MX performance. It loses the thumb scroll, but is immensely comfortable, and has a task switcher button that can be remapped.
>>
>>53677505
Thanks. I went for the MX Master as it's on a good deal with Amazon right now.
