/bst/ New Year edition. What's your plans for New Year?

I'm gonna get wasted like fuck at a party with 15 friends, and some random chicks. Also gonna try some small liquid booster thing that I got from my dads friend. It should keep me awake for 6 hours, all natural because of the vitamins and shit. It's gonna be awesome!

They use zmap to scan the internet for open VNC hosts (remote control software), then if they find one that does not have a password then they feed it to a script that takes a screenshot of the host and make it available on that website. They are running it from 31c3 as described here: https://news.ycombinator.com/item?id=8810698

Speaking of which
There was this website with a couple of guys running an experiment and letting people upload whatever they like on 6 computers running Win98 and XP, does anyone remember the website? I can't find what to google and all I remember is that they insisted that one not host it in the US

if you haven't already learn HTML/CSS because that's 90% of your website right there.

i don't actually know much about development, but you're going to want to learn SQL or Ruby, but that's obvious enough.

just go to codeacadamy or some other learn to code website and do what they tell you. it's easy enough.

someone told me django is cool for web dev.
Also, do you know any other aplications for pyhton?
>>
>>45846102
python is actually flexible. a lot of applications are coded with both it and a bit of the native operating system's code, so you could try out programs.

i'm really just a designer, not a real programmer so i can't help you out much

Why is the lack of women in IT and software development positions a problem? No one seems to have an issue with the lack of male nurses or school teachers.

If a woman genuinely wants to develop software or become a systems administrator, There is nothing keeping them from jumping through the same hoops of fire everyone else has to. Things in this field are fucked up enough without having to deal with affirmative action hires.

it's not a problem. the problem is that radical feminists are trying to gain power. feminists are the hitler of the 21st century.

People with x200 or similar models, what temps are you getting?

Mine:

Adapter: ISA adapter
Core 0: +41.0°C (high = +105.0°C, crit = +105.0°C)
Core 1: +39.0°C (high = +105.0°C, crit = +105.0°C)

thinkpad-isa-0000
Adapter: ISA adapter
fan1: 1952 RPM
temp1: +41.0°C
temp2: +44.0°C
temp3: N/A
temp4: +39.0°C
Battery 1: +35.0°C
temp6: N/A
Battery 2: +35.0°C
temp8: N/A
temp9: +43.0°C
temp10: +39.0°C
temp11: N/A
temp12: N/A
temp13: N/A
temp14: N/A
temp15: N/A
temp16: N/A

For some reason the temp2 and temp9 are often particularly high, I've heard somewhere that temp2 is north bridge / HDAPS, any tips on how to decrease the temps there? I've had to set thinkfan so that the fan would stay quiet, otherwise it'd be blowing at >3000rpm almost all the time, which is rather audible.

My last motherboard stayed more quiet since the temp2 and temp9 weren't high in particular. Unfortunately it suffered from a broken mpcie port :/

So I know that RAID-5 with today's high capacity drives is a recipe for suicide, because if one drive dies then a single URE while resilvering will destroy the array.

But what about RAID-10? It's the most recommended these days, I assume for a good reason. What happens when a drive dies in a RAID-10 array and then you suffer a URE in the mirrored drive while rebuilding? Will it just result in a corrupt file for whatever sitting on that block/stripe or will it also ruin the array?

Please help a noob understand the risks between mirroring vs parity.

I'm looking at buying a camera for some cinematic nature shots. The catch is that it needs to be able to record in 720P HD and at 120fps. Also, I would prefer if it were in the 'affordable' range. I am considering the Go Pro Hero 3 but am open for suggestions

What is the cheapest Web Hosting + Domain name deal on the internet ? All I want is a .com domain name and a web server that runs PHP and a Mysql database, the storage doesn't matter, even 100MB would be fine, also limited bandwidth is fine, have no need for emails, back-up services and other stuffs... Having to pay like 3 or 4 euros per month for such service is insane, so what is the cheapest possible deal I could find ?

Get a raspberry pi and run your own web server, then buy a cheap domain. By the way, .com domains aren't cheap, so consider another one for a lower price.

Bought CoolerMaster Thermal Compound.
I managed to put it properly on the GPU of my GeForce 9400 GT, but it became so hot while playing Doom, the thermal compund started to make buzz and hiss sounds and started to melt.
I panicked and unplugged my computer, but it kept hissing for 5 minutes.
Then after removing the fan of the GPU, all thermal compound was gone.
Fuck it was like black magic

Bought a Chinese clone wacom tablet monitor for $400. Never used it really because the drivers didn't work on my X220t because it's already running real Wacom drivers.

Tried to resell it for $150 but nobody wanted it.
