Would it be possible to purge and replace all GNU components from Linux and free the OS from the grasps of Stallman and his cult of freetards?

>inb4 Stallman drones get butthurt

Linux is about freedom and the ability to change any part of your OS. You have no right to complain about my question here.

Here's what I have so far, all that's left is the GPU, as you can see this is a bugdet build, so anything above the 960/380 is out of the question

So, is the Prime95 issue deal-breaker ?

>Intel has identified an issue that potentially affects the 6th Gen Intel® Core™ family of products. This issue only occurs under certain complex workload conditions, like those that may be encountered when running applications like Prime95. In those cases, the processor may hang or cause unpredictable system behavior. Intel has identified and released a fix and is working with external business partners to get the fix deployed through BIOS.

Is it over? Is Intel finished? Should I wait for Zen ? So many questions, but only one answer. No.

What was the purpose of this thread?

They will fix it by using the slower instruction set/path instead of the one that causes the CPU to crash.

The reason it removed it was because it was known to have an old version of CPU-Z that was broken and causing BSOD.

Install an up to date version, protip: speccy fixed the issue and released an update.

Intended for users of all levels, including absolute beginners.

There are three ways to try Linux, you can:

1) Install a Linux OS on a VM (Virtual Machine/VirtualBox) for "safety purposes"
2) Use the Live ISO directly without installing anything, that way, you can get a "full Linux experience".
3) Dual-boot Linux with Windows/Mac (recommend if you want to learn more about Linux)
4) Go balls deep and overwrite everything with Linux (not recommended)

If you are serious about switching to Linux and if you have Windows dual-booted, we recommend you use it exclusively for 2 weeks, and avoid Windows dual booting for that period of time, or it's likely you will start retreating back to Windows instead of getting used to Linux as your new home and working on making it feel the way you want it.

Before asking, please find the answers to your questions in resources.

Please be civil, notice the "Friendly" in every Friendly Linux Thread.

Understand that much of your software from Windows will be unavailable, although maybe wine can make up for it.

Why is CPU development seemingly so slow? I've had an i7-2600 in my machine for 5 years now, and every time I think about upgrading I'm told that there's still nothing out there that's worth swapping my motherboard and RAM for. Meanwhile, a 5 year difference in GPU releases presents a massive performance difference.

What's the deal? I do a lot of simulation, data grinding, and video rendering on my PC and I'm looking for a significant performance boost. Is my 2600 really not holding me back? Is there anything currently worth upgrading to / waiting for this year?

Linux has a good deal of program support, OP. I'd suggest trying it for a few weeks before coming to any conclusions about going back to (overpriced and walled-garden) Apple. You might be surprised. And if you aren't, well, Apple's not going anywhere.
