Not really.

I quite like Ubuntu. I wish Unity had more flexibility but overall it is pretty good. I don't like how the dash is so fucking picky over shortcuts though. Pisses me off when I see random shit in their because I locked something to the dock. Also I wish Nautilus had more features. To be honest all the standard file managers on Linux are shit though.

I also quite like Ubuntu GNOME but GNOME Shell still feels quite a way off from being something I could use every day.

Recommend me a good microphone to do voiceovers and whatnot. Been looking at a AT2020. I'll be plugging it into a Steinberg UR22 Mk II. I want a desk stand for it too. The USB AT2020 comes with a nice little tripod but can't find it separate anywhere and it's not included in the standard passive AT2020 version. Any other worthwhile options or recommendations of how to mount the mic?

Booted Kali off my usb drive, but I can't connect with my network.

Using a typical mac80211to connect, is there a way to enable it?

Yes I'm a noob, gotta start somewhere right?

That speed is not a garantee. Also, wifi sucks for fast and stable connections. Learn to read contracts before you sign them and use a cable for fast connections.

Hi /g/ this is a stupid question thread so I have a very stupid question to ask. I have been using Github for only a small amount of time abd have started seeing alot of programs that have no executable file to run them, for example: https://github.com/Partinarel/map-make/tree/master/map_explore/map_explore. I would really appreciate it if someone could explain how to run these or even just point me towards a site that explains it. Thanks and sorry for being stupid.

Is there a laptop manufacturer that won't screw me over? Yeah I know

>not building a nice desktop

But fuck it. My last two laptops both went obsolete because the manufacturer never updated their drivers, and drivers from each individual component manufacturer didn't work. Is there any company that sells something I'll actually be allowed to update two years from now?

>What is Remix OS?
Remix OS is a fork of Android x86 that is modded for better usability with mice and touchpads. It's designed to run on your PC.
http://www.jide.com/en/remixos-for-pc

>When is it released? Where's the download?
The English version that includes gapps is released SOMETIME TODAY.
The ching chong version without gapps is released NOW. https://otacdn.jide.com/ota/Remix_OS_for_PC_64_B2016011202_CN_Alpha.zip

>Isn't this Chrome OS?
It looks like Chrome OS but it doesn't have the horrible bullshit lock-in and has apps that don't require the Internet or were written in JavaScript.

>Won't they get sued by Google? This is vaporware.
Remix OS has already existed for more than a year, raised over a million dollars over two kickstarters, and sold devices with Remix OS on it. So probably not.

>Will this run on my Mac?
PROBABLY. They said it runs on some Macs that they tested but didn't specify which. You can also test Android x86 on your Mac to see if it works.

>How can other OS's even compete?
By being cheap enough for the general public to afford them.
Yes there are poor people who can't afford macs and yes you can feel better than them if you want to. Doesn't change the fact that producing cheap computers lets you compete with Apple.
I use computer and os interchangeably here because you pretty much have to buy a mac to use Mac OS

If you're looking for purchase advice, READ THE BUYERS GUIDE FIRST. Then post, stating budget and requirements (e.g. size and performance).
Don't buy anything OTHER THAN T, X AND W/P SERIES if you want the Real ThinkPad Experience™

Recommended models:
T420 - 14", normal size
X220 - 12.5", lightweight
----
Why ThinkPad? (also applies to other business laptops)
>They’re really cheap when you buy a used one.
>Keyboards feel excellent while typing (yes, even the newer ones).
>Great durability thanks to the inclusion of rollcages and use of glass fiber reinforced plastic for the chassis. The keyboard is splash proof and spilled liquids will drain out.
>Utilitarian design - e.g. indicator LEDs, 7 row keyboard layout on older models.
>Docking solutions that easily turns your laptop into a desktop.
>Easy to repair, upgrade and maintain thanks to readily available service manuals for almost every model. Spare parts are easy and cheap to obtain.
>The best trackpoint (that red thing on the middle of the keyboard). Great for those who type a lot or hate swiping their fingers all over a touchpad.
>Excellent GNU/Linux & *BSD support.

I might have to get an XPS 15 since I can't find anything else even close to what I want in a new laptop.

The X260 is almost perfect, but it's gimped by single-channel RAM (and all the other modern X-series compromises).

Maybe I should just keep using my Latitude E6510 and wait to upgrade until laptops catch up with what I want from them.
