Rob Pike, designer of Go, has said this about it and its use at Google:

>The key point here is our programmers are Googlers, they’re not researchers.
>They’re typically, fairly young, fresh out of school, probably learned Java, maybe learned C or C++, probably learned Python.
>They’re not capable of understanding a brilliant language but we want to use them to build good software.
>So, the language that we give them has to be easy for them to understand and easy to adopt.

Source: https://channel9.msdn.com/Events/Lang-NEXT/Lang-NEXT-2014/From-Parallel-to-Concurrent

For emphasis:
>They’re not capable of understanding a brilliant language

So Go was designed for people whom he thinks aren't very good at programming.

We hear a lot about using software that doesn't respect the freedom of its users, and there are good points on both sides of the debate.

But why would *anyone* use software like Go, that doesn't even respect their intelligence?

You only have yourself to blame.

Hey /g/ so my campus has finally installed hotspots everywhere around the campus (Yes I live in a 3rd world country ) using Nanostations and captive portals. My college is known to spy on students as in if you ever criticize them online on Facebook or whatever, they'll summon you to the dean's office and punish you accordingly. No freedom of speech or anything. My concern is is it safe to use their hotspots? Should I be worried about anything? What's the best way to protect my data? VPNS? Thanks in advance /g/bros.

Yep, I use freebsd for stuff that I need to be stable, and openbsd for stuff that I need to be secure.
>>
>>53532860
OpenBSD as it is the most Unix like OS and I prefer its code correctness philosophy.

That sometimes problems might be related to Hardware, not only software.
Learn2Troubleshooting.
>>
>>53532181
Ignoring the problem at hand by addressing the symptoms and not the core issue.
>>
>>53532181
If that were accepted as an answer people would be expected to reinstall their OS everytime something minor goes wrong.

It's also just a dick answer, it's generally accepted by everyone to be a last resort solution. Suggesting it outright is basically just saying "fuck you".

Anyone here know the brand names/serial numbers of the parts in the pi-top so I can build one cheaply, or are they unique to the device? I know I can get the 3d print files easily for the case. 300USD plus postage is far too much money for what they are selling, you can buy a chromebook cheaper than that.

>>
Hmm, I could use that trackpad if it can be acquired standalone
>>
If that thing is a small production run, the price isn't so bad. The profit margin is likely slimmer than you think.

Also, why do people insist on using the pi as a personal computer? Cheap laptop = used thinkpads; arm development = smartphone. The pi is just a powerful dev board.
>>
>>53532971
everyone has a boner for the pi, they try to use it for everything. There are a bunch of laptop and game console projects. Fine if you're having fun but it seems like a lot of people are trying to make it practical, even though phones and laptops smoke it

In this ITT thread: post you're yfw when x86 dies

What happened to parallel buses 13 years ago is happening to x86 now. Just like parallel buses hit a wall and serial ones eventually caught up, RISC CPU architectures like MIPS and ARM are catching up with x86 now and will soon supplant it.
13 posts and 2 images submitted.
>>
x86 actively shits on ARM for anything high power. The only place ARM has a foothold is phones and embedded devices. I don't see x86 going anywhere for the next 10 years.
>>
>>53531777
I thought x86 was RISC with CISC backwards-compatibility created by internally using RISC?
