I just had a discussion with a person about how a power strip works, he stated that even when switched off, there's still current running through it, while i say the opposite, since the switch works as a bridge and current can't pass through a resistor.
Who is wrong and who is right?
Picture related.

>>51264242
depends on the powerstrip and what type of switch it uses.

If its just a really strong resistor than your friend is right, if it's completely open than you're right.
>>
Current can pass through a resistor.

With your diagram, no power is used when the power strip is switched off.
>>
>>51264242
Both designs are used in power strips.
Power strips are very inconsistent in this way. In fact, some just use the switch to turn on or off the main lead, that's just daisy chained to the outlets.

People went full retard?

I mean, there are many cases where facebook accounts played a part in getting your house robbed, but I guess the general population has always been stupid.

Intended for users of all levels, including absolute beginners

If you are serious about switching to Linux, use it exclusively for 2 weeks, avoid windows dual booting for that period of time, or you are likely to start retreating back to windows instead of getting used to linux as your new home and working on making it feel comfortable

You can safely experience installation process and the basic usage through a virtual machine

40$ for an iphone? I don't know if its real, but if it is, can anyone explain why?

>can anyone exlain why?
because it's a fake?

Like how retarded are you? Cheap ram, a cheap screen, a cheap soc and a shit tier battery make for a very cheap phone.

16GB of shitty storage probably doesn't even cost 20 cents in China
>>
Buy it. Then resell it for $250 or so or even swap it for something else. Most people don't realise it's fake until it's too late.
>>
>>51264141

A real iPhone costs about $200 to make, at least, so there's no way that thing is real.

Have some common bloody sense, for Christ's sake.

Where were you when Apple once again innovated the smartphone market?

I bet you android babbies would like to have such an elaborated screenlock pattern unlocker.

So /g/, my hard drive probably broke on my gaming rig and I have a new one coming soon. Most of the files weren't extremely important, but I don't want to shell out for a new Windows 7 or 8 OS and I don't know how to recover that. I was wondering if you guys had recommendations on any Linux based OS?
12 posts and 1 images submitted.
>>
Install /g/entoo
>>
If you don't know how to recover a windoze cdkey, I would recommend Gentoo as it is the easiest for Linux noobs. This is why /g/ is always telling noons to

> install gentoo

Don't bother with Ubuntu or Mint at this point, the learning curve is too steep.
>>
>>51264021
>Shell out for new OS
You only need the activation key and not the files.

But anyway, I'd install Arch if you're an enthusiast, Debian if you're not, and Mint if you're a bit of a retard.

Greetings /g/, /k/omando here. Hopefully you can take a bit of pitty on my circumstance. Long story short I'm in the very beginning stages of a divorce and I know she will be taking the computer as it was hers before we got married.

My question is: Is it possible to build a budget computer ($300 max) that will be easily upgradable to a decent gaming rig once the dust settles and I can find my head again? I'm not looking to running any games at full settings in the near or really in the distant future, but I thought as long as I'm getting a computer for myself, I might as well have the ability to play games on it if I wanted to (douchy console guy here...).

Unfortunately, I really know nothing about building computers as far as parts compatability and really if it's possible to use cheap parts now to get me through until I get the funds to buy better parts (read: do cheap parts use the same connections as good ones?)

Again, sorry for the noobyness with the subject, and sorry for another "help with PC building" thread, but hopefully you can see it's not a typical situation.

If anyone needs help with guns I'll give my input for what that's worth...

If you concede that there's no reason for a private citizen to own a firearm in 2015, I'll tell you everything you wanna know.
>>
Assuming your talking 300 for only the tower and not keyboard/mouse/monitor and its 300 burgerdollars then I can see what I can do.
>>
Yea, I built a PC for 300$ that ran most new games back in 2011, but don't expect max quality.

Besides most PC games are so optimized now a days and the tech is so advanced, there's very few games that actually take full advantage of this.

It's super easy, check out pcpartpicker.com

For a second I thought that photograph was from a museum and I thought "okay candybar phones are pretty primitive nowadays, but surely with a colour screen it can't be THAT old"

It may as well be in a museum though

Literally what a joke phone

How the fuck does one deal with all those fucking licenses when wanting to release a program?

I've got a program written in java (among the other things I do), and for once I want to sell it instead of letting it go to waste. The thing is I always just start making my programs, adding the libraries I need and know about, not giving a fuck about licenses.

Now I noticed that some of my maven dependencies have a shitton of licenses on them like epl, apache, cddl, etc. Tldrlegal doesn't come close to explaining them enough (e.g. "disclose source" source of WHAT exactly? The library I used or my own, first-party, proprietary code?), and the actual licenses themselves are shitton of legalese.

How the fuck does anyone manage to be productive with that whole clusterfuck of license shit weighing down on you and ironically limiting your freedom by forcing you to do things like disclosing source code you wrote while it doesn't necessarily have anything to do with the licensed library you used?

>>51263368
hehe... why 4chan no make good oc like this
>>
This why I use dependencies sparingly. You should have paid more attention.

Your choices are to find libraries that use one license or code the requirements yourself. Or a combination of the two.
