>4K / 60p High speed display in 60 frames per second of 4K video (3,840 x 2,160 pixels - Ultra HD), which has four times the resolution of Full Hi-vision, for highly detailed videos with extremely smooth movement.

>10-bit gradation Previous Blu-ray Discs displayed the colour signals (Y, Cb, Cr) in 8-bit gradation each (256 gradations). By expanding this to 10-bit gradation each (1,024 gradations), even minute signals can be faithfully reproduced to realize richly textured video.

>High Dynamic Range A technology that drastically expands the brightness peak from the previous 100 nit to 1,000-10,000 nit, marking a significant leap in the dynamic range of the picture. Bright light sources (e.g. lights or rays of the sun) and reflected light (from metal or water) that up to now were difficult to display can now be shown in rich textures.

>BT.2020 wide colour gamut Compliant with the ITU-R BT.2020 wide colour gamut signal formulated for 4K/8K broadcasting. Enables vividly rich coloration not previously possible on Blu-ray discs (BT.709 standard).

>HEVC (H.265) / 100Mbps Support for the highest 100Mbps video signal using the latest high-efficiency video compression technology. Compression efficiency and high bit rate far beyond previous Blu-ray discs (MPEG-4/AVC (H.264), maximum 40Mbps) enabling outstanding playback of high quality video with 4K/60p/10bit, High Dynamic Range, BT.2020, etc.

What's the cheapest cpu or cpu/gpu combo that will play the latest bluray spec?

Other business laptops are also welcome in /tpg/ (e.g. Dell Latitude/Precision, HP EliteBook/ZBook).
----
If you're looking for purchase advice, READ THE BUYERS GUIDE FIRST. Then post, stating budget and requirements (e.g. size and performance).
Don't buy anything OTHER THAN T, X AND W/P SERIES if you want the Real ThinkPad Experience™

Recommended models:
T420 - 14", normal size
X220 - 12.5", lightweight
----
Why ThinkPad? (also applies to other business laptops)
>Used machines are plentiful and cheap.
>Excellent keyboards - tactile feel and quiet.
>Great durability: chassis uses a magnesium rollcage for structural integrity, with high quality plastic body panels.
>Utilitarian design: e.g. indicator LEDs, 7 row keyboard layout on older models.
>Docking stations that easily turns your laptop into a desktop.
>Easy to repair, upgrade and maintain thanks to readily available service manuals for every model. Spare parts are easy and cheap to obtain.
>The best trackpoint (that red thing in the middle of the keyboard). Great for those who type a lot or hate swiping their fingers all over a touchpad.
>Excellent GNU/Linux & *BSD support.

Anyone here runs Wayland? How far are they from being able to replace X?
90 posts and 8 images submitted.
>>
>>54511171
Some arch or fedora guys might run it already.

It seems like my favorite DE, MATE, which I intend to use with Wayland in the future, will first have to develop a compositor to work with it:
>Wayland support for MATE is currently targeted for some future release. Though Wayland itself is relatively stable (but still under a lot of active development), the current obstacles include creating a Wayland compositor for MATE, and porting the core applications to gtk3, which will allow the applications to take full advantage of Wayland's capabilites (currently, these applications are based in gtk2, which can only communicate with Wayland through the XWayland implementation).
http://wiki.mate-desktop.org/wayland

And that will only come after they have gtk3 support so I'm thinking it takes at max another 3 releases of MATE (hopefully not though).

Does anyone know if 1.16 already means complete gtk3 support or if there's more to come?
Seems like it at least:
http://wiki.mate-desktop.org/status:gtk3
http://wiki.mate-desktop.org/roadmap

If that's true and they're fast enough to write a new compositor for Wayland or can use an existing one, they might already support it by 1.18.

That's still only February 2017 though.
>>
you can already use wayland, it works nicely.

only touchpad doesn't work well for me, but that is because of libinput, not wayland, and apart from that, I have no complaints using wayland as my main display server
>>
>>54513061
Do VNC viewers etc work in your experience? Or anything else really or is it just the touchpad that doesn't do as it should?

And what DE or WM are you using?
