What do I get? What's the better deal with the devil?

I need a powerful computer for the road -gonna be spending a load of time in an RV- specailly for handling video, and I'd like to do some vidya.

Whatever, gaymen laptops are either GL551, G751 or Y50. Then there's the macbook.

Get a mobile workstation, it's like a gaming laptop without all the LEDs and stickers, but with actual build quality.

which model?
>>
don't buy a gaymen laptop. just get a regular laptop with a good graphics card. I don't know what's good these days, but a year and a half ago I got a samsung 8 series with ~10 hours battery life, 15.6" 1080p IPS screen, quad core CPU and some AMD card that was pretty good at the time, so I don't see why you can't get something similar today. I mostly use it for work, but it plays games just fine despite not being a gaymen laptop.

What's /g/'s opinion on the increasing amount of technology in cars?
>giant touchscreen in the dash
>smaller screens instead of analog gauges on some models
>proximity keys with no real key blade
>some cars even come with 4G LTE hotspots standard now
>integrated telematics to report vehicle problems to the manufacturer
>now many manufacturers working on smartphone integration
Is technology in the auto industry going in the right direction? Or is the focus/types of technology being promoted wrong for the application?

I'd ask /o/ but they circlejerk about analog buttons and dials forever while going "muh miata" because, in their opinion, the board is not about technology in cars, it's about cars. So my thread topic focuses on the technology area.

As long as cars still comeceith cigarette lighter outlets I'll be happy .

Now if they ship it and just have usb ports I'll be happier
>>
>>45313442
You wouldn't want a car to just ship with USB ports because many DC powered appliances couldn't adequately be powered by them.
>>
It's a cash grab. If cars came with the same tech we had 10 years ago, they'd be way cheaper now. They need to justify that they're still selling economy cars for $20,000

Do you think there ever be a company that will be a direct competitor to Microsoft, on a global scale, in the Operating System department? Why or why not?

I'm not talking about MacOS, Gentoo, Linux, etc either. The average person has only heard of Windows and Mac. I'm talking about an operating system that would/could replace Windows on Windows-based machines. I'm talking about doing what Windows does (except sukkin dick), only better.

You would need to have a linux OS that is comfortable to use (qt based GUI cuz muh thumbnails ang GTK a shit) and perfect ease of use with Windows shit. But it won't happen unless MS makes their office suite open or ReactOS gets more heavy development attention.

You mean Android and iOS?

Hey /g/,

Was originally planning to build a new gaming rig in January, but with changes coming to our pay dates due to an extra week in the 13th period, my big money month will be April. I was intending to finish my gaming rig first, then build a streaming PC second. However, now it seems more likely I'll build the streaming PC first.

I've already got most of the parts picked out, but I will submit I have literally zero clue about capture cards. Which one's the best? Is there glaring issues between PCI cards and external capture cards? 1080p at 60 FPS would be appreciated if I start doing recorded footage. Otherwise 720p and 60 FPS would be plenty for streaming.
55 posts and 3 images submitted.
>>
Why would you use a capture card and not fraps+Obs?
>>
>>45317302
Well a capture card would reduce the CPU load when encoding x264 with OBS while streaming (primary reason for the second PC build), which in turn let's me turn the CPU preset down lower for a better quality stream that also saves me a few hundred kbs.

I need a concrete answer as to if I would see a difference in image quality on a 1600x900 60fps LCD 20 inch monitor if I switched that monitor from VGA input to DVI input?

I have searched everywhere and it all seems to be bias, even from seemingly reliable sources; VGA is old, therefore it is bad. Some people see the difference, some don't. I have been using VGA and honestly think it looks crisp and detailed, no artifacts, blurryness, or distortion that people seem to bring up with VGA. Some others have mentioned motion blur and shadowing.

So I turn to you /g/, will I see a difference? My monitor didn't come with a DVI cable so I'd have to buy one separately.

jesus fucking christ just plug it in and look for a difference god damn you are useless OP
>>
On monitors I've used, the difference depends on if the panel is any good.
On a shit monitor you probably won't notice, but a decent one you likely will, I definitely have.
It might be less of an issue on low resolutions but anything 1080+ I would always go digital.
>>
>>45317384
Do you read at all? I do not have a DVI cable yet and am wondering (eg. DO NOT HAVE A FUCKING DVI CABLE TO TEST WITH) if I would see a difference.

I'm a "if it works it works" kinda guy, and all this hate on VGA just seems to apply to higher resolution and people with confirmation bias because VGA is old now.

Get the fuck out of my thread, you're the useless one.

Is there a way to actually fix hard driver cylinders or threads or whatever using testdisk after a premature usb ejection? I have tried the other options that testdisk offers but nothing seems to be working. I have tried researching information about how to learn how to do stuff like that but haven't found anything useful. I know that sometimes you can post a log file and some expert can tell you what's up. How do I become an expert? I have tried recovery, but my real problem is that I can't recover docx or powerpoint files. I'll learn what I can and try anything except pay a few hundred dollars, or is paying actually worth it?

I mostly just wanted advice on the size of the speaker, idk if i should get the 5 Inch or the 6,5 Inch, my room is kinda small but still...
Would love some Info.
>>
Both are complete shit if you're doing anything with sound production. & you generally want small sizes for smaller rooms.
So if it's for music then save your money for something that will actually be worth it. At least something with a flatter frequency response.
Otherwise your wasting your money.

>$100 on a case
Hilarious.

Here's what you need for that build: the cheapest Z97 motherboard from your favorite brand, Corsair 200R or 300R, and Corsair CS450M or CS550M.
Also, change the RAM to DDR3-1600. There's no point in buying more than the default.

Are those finger smudge marks at the bottom of the case?

That is quite an expensive case.
You could always buy a cheapish motherboard, a cheap case, and then use the saved money to bump your video card up a tier.

What's the expected performance boost you'd get from attaching an external GPU to a laptop via USB?
72 posts and 5 images submitted.
>>
Less than from an actual desktop, but your idiocy gets a 10X multiplier.
>>
Well, for starters, the contraption that makes this whole thing work is a HUGE bottleneck. You'd have to get a mid-high end card to really see much of a performance gain.
>>
this is just too much to comprehend.
