Because the ecosystem only has one line of phones.
>>
>>44085183

So what? This only means the entire ecosystem is shit.

They don't sell tech...they sell image. Apple is a jewelry company

>linux has shit font rendering
shocking news.

So /g/, let's talk about what your source of electricity will be in twenty years. Fusion is only 20 years away, 100 years ago, but solar is a pretty cool guy. You think it'll be the norm in that span?
146 posts and 16 images submitted.
>>
I would hope we have evolved a little. I'm living on solar abd wind now. But would like to be able to run large appliances without having to add 100 batteries
>>
>>44069528
Solar's pretty fucking impractical, even in super hypothetical futuristic designs it's just got too much required maintenance/replacement.

Battery tech is also shit, so naturally fucked at night if you want to use solar.

Hydro or geothermal's more likely to get some seriousface use someday.

How does one code a program that accepts the output of a pipe as input?

Eg.
 cat 1001_lines.txt | howmanylines

How does `howmanylines' get its input (in, say, C)?
>>
The laptop I want to buy comes with Win 8.1 preinstalled and no license refund.

Should I pay an extra $150 for an OS that I'll wipe as soon as I get the laptop, or keep looking for a OS-free laptop with the same specs?

4Plan is a Plan9 based operating system brought to you by the friendly guys over at 4Chan's /g/ center for Technlogy.

I'll give it a week.

Another successful /g/ project. This one is going to have to work hard to compete with CloverOS.

hey /g/
I plan on making a 4X4 inch RasPi UMPC. Where can i find a keyboard that small? Also the problem is mouse. I want to make it as small as possible with no moving parts (eg external mouse). What can i do about it? It will be mostly a port scanner/packet sniffer/vulnerability finder.
I want to make it look something like this.

And i want it to run debian, or some other minimal distro. Can i compile something like tiny core for it?
>>
>>44071137

They make tiny wireless mouse keyboard combos. I'm sure if you're comfortable with this level of hobbyist electronics you could maybe fashion a wired version out of it.
>>
>>44071137
If you're using an ARM SBC to run an actual desktop system, like KDE, then RasPi is probably a bad option.

Get a BeagleBone Black for like $20 more.

Here is mine, let's do something different and put what you mostly use your PC for and what is newest about your build.
I use mine for graphic design, making website and a good bit of gaming.
My 4k ultrasharp is new moving my old 2560x1440p to portrait and my watercolored hadron air build.

I use mine for gaming, the hardware is old but it gets the job done. The newest thing that I recently did was get a new case and new case fans.

Waiting on nvidia's GTX 960ti. Hope it will be a good upgrade from my everlasting GTX 560.
>>

I also edit tons of video on it. Not recently though...

Hey all again. Last thread died so I'm making a new one. I'm wondering if any beginner programmers would like to team up and work on a console RPG together using C++. I literally just started the project last night. If you're interesting in becoming part of the project, message me on AIM: allpower2slaves

I will post updates here as long as the thread is alive.

Update: Right now I'm implementing a switch function that will display some information about your race, depending on which race you choose
>>
Update: I've just added multiple comments on the switch statement so that it is easier for beginners to read

Why a switch? That's so hard to maintain.

And I sure as hell won't do anything over email. Gitorious or Github or bust.

gmail because it's hosted by the most reliable company in the world
>>
The name is ugly. PROTONNNNN...how pretentious. That is laughable.

So, I gather most communication you have is with end encrypted, privacy conscientious recipients of your emails? If not, try using Yandex, Autistici, Airmail.cc (Cock.li), Teknik.io (seems untrustworthy like Cock.li. I mean, they could discontinue service anytime, right?) or your employer's/university's email.
>>
I prefer Startmail
>not made by three Americans
>it's Dutch, and although the Dutch government is in bed with America, they do respect encryption
>it's made by an established privacy respecting tech company
>their business is more than just email, so you have more continuity
>the interface is better and more complete
