Looking to buy a new GPU. From what I can gather, it's dumb to wait for everything to cycle, as I'd like to upgrade now-ish and 6mo for things to really change is forever. Been looking at 970s since that seems to be the best option.
Price range is around 3-400 but if there's something extraordinary for a bit more, so be it?
Currently using a 660 so yeah, kinda time.

I have a 970 and absolutely love it, (don't listen to the memers- they're wrong) but I would go with an r9 390 assuming there aren't any nvidia features you want like shadowplay.

Hey /g/ what's your preferred method for cloning a hard drive?
My situation: I have win 8.1 on my 60gb ssd and I want to clone it over to a new 256gb ssd that I bought. I have a usb transfer kit and all of that.
I want to put my main partition on a bigger drive so it's easier to deal with and so I have the extra capacity to dual boot loonix. What's the best software/method to clone the drive with?

Clonezilla and Acronis.
i like to use hardware cloners. they tend to be faster than software.
I tried 5 or 6 different cloning software and non of them worked so good luck.

What are the best ways to store your files for the rest of your life? Is optical media shit? 50gb blurays looks reasonable but can you trust them? i know big companies have tape robots but that doesnt seem viable for home use.

Let's talk batteries.
Are 18650's the pinnacle of battery design? Tesla's have a whole bed of them to power the car. They're 3.7V with mAh ranging from 2000 to 4000. They are actually usable and mass produced, not vaporwave like the other super batteries that never exited the research lab.
Since a ton of tech relies on batteries nowadays, what is the best?

18650 is just a form factor, like AA, AAA, C cell, or D cell. The capacity and other characteristics of the battery depend entirely on its chemistry.

Larger batteries have better capacity though, not just because they are bigger but they also weigh less per Wh etc since more of the battery is battery and less is steel casing.
