how much would my computer be worth?

Looking to sell my computer to fund a very nice laptop to connect to my monitors and use instead of a dedicated desktop, so this is a two parter question.

The specs of my desktop at the moment is as follows:

Xeon e5-2650v3
Asus x99 e-ws
8gb samsung ecc ddr4 ram 1x8gb dimm
750w fractal design gold powersupply
fractal design define r2 xl case
240gb ocz evo100 ssd
asus strix 960 2gb gpu
be quiet dark rock pro 3 cpu cooler.

if I was to sell this rig what would I be able to get for it? would I make more if I was to sell all the parts individually or as a single set?

I also have two tn 1080p panels I would be willing to add in as a "freebie" was going to sell them seperatly but wouldnt get more than £100 for them both.

Also, would like a laptop that is able to get a large amount of batterylife, graphics power is not required as gaming isnt something I do.

just enough to power 3x 3440x1440 monitors along with the built in monitor on the laptop, while getting 10+ hours of use.

would i be best off getting a custom build laptop or a specific model?

reposting from old thread as it hit bump limit as I posted

really? would have thought it would be worth a little more than that if I'm being honest! brought everything new 3/4 months ago with very little use, very good care, cost me £2000 for the whole rig..

So I'm making a forum in nodejs just for fun while using mysql but the queries are taking so fucking long compared to something like php for instance, let's say the user visits the first forum page.

I need to query forum_posts for each thread to get the number of posts in that thread right? am I doing something wrong here?

help me /g/. I think I have some form of adware on my pc, but I can't find what's causing it, or how to remove it.
No matter what I'm doing, playing games, browsing 4chan etc. Chrome will occasionally open a new tab (or a new window if chrome is closed) to assorted links which immediately redirect me to porn ads for sex cams and shit like that. I've reinstalled chrome, ran chrome cleaner, ran malewarebytes, ran adwcleaner and they all came up with nothing. If it helps, I've noticed that ads open more frequently when I'm typing, but sometimes open when I'm afk. They tend to open every few hours. any suggestions? thanks.
pic related. it's assorted url's that have popped up, which I've blocked.

Is the Dell XPS 13 good?
It looks nice. Money isn't an issue at this price range. But is it good quality?
Looking to watch movies, play very few games, some programming, and use it to browse the internet. I will be loading Arch on it.
>>
>>52118322
I do get that, but regardless of condition I was basing my pricing off of what people are willing to pay for open parts. Most people will assume there may be damage to the rig (ie why you are selling it) even though there isn't. You can put it for much higher if that's what you want, I can't imagine how long it'll be before you sell it.

Is there any recommended reading on rooting? Like something that explains how rooting works, what should you watch out for when rooting, what happens, when you update a rooted phone, etc. Or maybe some good videos explaining it.

I would be willing to wait to see if it sells, it isnt a necessity as I do have a x220t fully upgraded to use for a laptop, just seems like a waste of processing power having the components I have when I use a minimalistic arch install with i3, I don't see CPU usage shoot above 2% ever...

would like to get a much newer laptop for better battery life while i'm out and dock it while at home, all I do is a bit of programming and general browsing so power isnt a necessity, battery life and convenience is what counts.

is it able to power 3x 1440p ultrawide displays through display port AND dockable? will it be able to connect a 4th 4k monitor to it?

basically my setup is 3x1440p ultrawides,
40inch 4k connected to server for tv and movies while in bed, I would like to replace the desktop with a laptop that is able to power all 4 displays along with its own and keep up, or am I asking for too much along with a decent batterylife?

What's important for a video card when you want to open an old online game many times?
An anon said yesterday that I should buy a GeForce 210, because my old card is broken.
Pic related is when I open one/two windows of the game.
I could(and want to) open 5 Windows some months ago, but now there are problems when I start the game for a third time.

The GeForce 210 has a Memory Bandwith of 8GB/sec and Memory clock 500Mb. From what I've read, this is only important for higher resolutions, but I play on 1024x1080. Can you please tell me to what I should look at when I buy a new graphic card?

>>
>>52118527
Yeah I forgot about those. Obviously not. I can't think of a laptop that can drive that kind of hardware.
>>
>>52118568
Just get whatever dude.
I think a 210 is a waste of money though. Unless you can get one for pennies.
Go for something like a 5450
>>
>>52118598
I just want to spend less than 30-35€/$ and I don't know that much about computers and stuff.
>>
>>52118588

I would be more than willing to buy an external graphics card if that's a possibility, just the ability to dock and work with all my current hardware is the requirements, diddn't realise laptop technology was so far behind desktop components in terms of connectivity
>>
>>52118545
>>52118572
NO
>>
>>52118628
You could get a Dell XPS 13. Dockable and good battery life. However you'll need that external GPU to drive those monitors
>>
>>52118612
Well check out how much a 5450 is on ebay.
For nvidia cards (200, 300, 400, etc) don't buy anything under a X30 (eg 230 or 330) and for AMD cards (4000 to 7000, there are 200 cards but don't get those, this gets confusing quickly) don't get anything under a X450.
You should be able to use these criteria to find a half decent card at the 20-30 euro price bracket.
Used though.

They are fine and have docking support, but if you are not into gaming I'd go with a Latitude.
>>
Hey, /g/, I'm from /fa/ so excuse being a computer moron.

I need to get a computer to run CAM software for a CNC machine... Seems like a Dell Precision Tower 3000 series will do. Specs:

Intel Core i3-6100 Processor (Dual Core, 3MB, 4T, 3.7GHz, 65W)
Windows 10
AMD FirePro™ W2100 2GB Half Height (2 DP) (1 DP to SL-DVI adapter)
RAM: 8GB (1x8GB) 2133MHz DDR4 Non-ECC
500GB 3.5inch Serial ATA (7,200 Rpm) Hard Drive
DVD-ROM
Intel® Dual Band Wireless 8260 (802.11ac) + Bluetooth

Is this alright? The CAM software isn't too hard on computers, they just recommend a separate video card. Software requires 4GB of RAM minimum, so went with 8.

Should I go for NVIDIA® Quadro® K420 2GB Half Height or AMD FirePro™ W2100 2GB Half Height ?

Any help appreciated.

Why not just keep your current setup? You would lose money in buying a new laptop and you will have less performance. The X220t is more than enough for simple office tasks. And you probably won't be carrying that external GPU around.
>>
>>52118689
Yeah but the latitude doesn't look as nice.
>>
>>52118693
Go for anything (and feel free to get it used) with EEC memory. It has the benefit that you can also just leave the computer on and it will make certain the computer won't randomly crap.

Apart from that it's fine.
>>
>>52118697
How can you have an SQL DB without knowing about views?
>>
>>52118728

I need a new laptop with more battery for university, and was going to use the extra money if there was any to upgrade the rest of my setup, I wouldnt need to carry anything but the laptop around for uni whereas at the moment I have to carry both my laptop and a powerbank capble of charging my thinkpad.

would benefit from it and be able to take the laptop, around to mates houses and such.

I'm tired of windows 10 on my desktop. I have gnu/linux on my laptop as daily driver which I prefer.

My question is. I only play blizzard games, how does wine work with bnet? I got a windows update pop up while laddering the other day and almost threw my mouse through the window.

>>
>>52118812

>>52118806
Then look it up, they are for storing temporary results and speeding up queries. All big SQL DBs use them.
>>
Is there any way to hide chromium's url bar?
>>
>>52118871
Nod. Looks like I have to get a fancier processor to use ECC ram. Going to try a few different series to see if I can keep the cost down to do so.

For tax reasons it is better for me to buy a new computer (accelerated depreciation).

is there a way to fix these partitions ?
>>
>>52118875
Use fullscreen mode OR run it in app mode
>>
>>52118934
When you say fix are you talking about the size or that they're unformatted?
>>
>>52118894
That's why I suggested used, since thrown out servers from data centers would still be plenty fast for your use. Also the old i3 processors still supported ECC, but even now there are still some i3s with ECC support:

http://ark.intel.com/search/advanced?ECCMemory=true&MarketSegment=DT

So you don't necessarily need a better CPU.

>>52118934
what do you mean by fix?
Probably diskmgmt.msc or diskpart
>>
>>52118957
i mean they're supposed to be NTFS but it says RAW and i cannot access any of them
>>
>>52119002
then type diskmgmt.msc in ctrl + r and right click the drives, the rest is intuitive.

Or did they have information on them?

I know this is more /v/ orientated, but how do I get GTA 5 to run well on my laptop?

It has a 2gb GTX 960 and an i7 but when I play online I get stuttering all the time unless I turn the settings right down and it looks terrible. Singleplayer runs better and from what I've seen I should be able to run it on higher settings than I currently am.

Yes I know it's a laptop and I shouldn't play games on them, but it was an xmas gift and I'm travelling a lot lately.

If they don't have any data on them, just format them (>>52119018).

Maybe it's your latency.

Ctrl + shift + esc --> performance -> resource monitor -> check GTAwhatever.exe -> network -> TCP connections

Monitor the latency a bit and see if that is the problem.

What brand makes the best R9 380?

But I assume you use wifi, so maybe that's the problem and the reason I suggested monitoring the actual latency.
And assuming you reduced the settings for multiplayer and play on AC (obviously) there's really nothing anyone could do for the computer performance.

it's not necessary to move files like movies, photos, music etc onto an SSD, since it won't make a difference, but putting system files, games and programs onto an SSD will hugely improve performance.

it could be the wrong driver though, check the name of your motherboard and go to the vendor page.
Download latest drivers and if that doesn't help, flash your BIOS / update UEFI.

I understand that SSD's usually wear out if you write a lot on them. Since I usually install-unintall lots of programs/games in my SSD, how long should I expect it to last? Is it worth it or should I go back to mainly mechanical hardrives? (I don't use any heavy software).

How does this look? ~$650 USD for a budget build, may eventually upgrade to a r9 390 if I can get a good price on it. Also any advice in terms of linux compatibility? I got a laptop with Win 7, thinking of putting this SSD in it. Old drive 240g, same as this.

Q1: If I disk image from the old HDD to the new SSD with dd, will Windows have a freakout over thinking it's in a new computer or being pirated when I boot from the new drive?

Q2: Will the system restore partition still work?

Q3: If I resize the Win partition to be smaller and install Linux/grub on it, will the Windows partition still boot?

I know you guys despise people who use laptops for gaming, but hear me out.
I'm looking to replace my Dell XPS L502x, but what's out there online tend to look like they have very flimsy/easy to break builds.
The thing I liked about my XPS was that it had a solid premium feel to it, and it had a bit of weight, plus an excellent JBL audio system with subwoofers.
I commute everyday, thus not quite looking for a desktop right now, but I'd love to find a laptop which I could play steam games with, which had a similar premium solid feel to an XPS.

Ok, then it should be easy (I'm not on windows right now so some steps might be missing/different):

1) Open network and sharing center

3) Right click on ethernet connection -> properties
4) There should something like ipv4, get into its properties
5) Enter your settings manually

connect on Wifi to the router
ctrl + r
cmd
ipconfig -all
find the adapter settings that said IPv4 Address 192.168.x.x
leave this window open you need all those settings for the last step

ctrl + r
ncpa.cpl
right click wifi connection
disable
right click ethernet adapter
properties
Internet Protocol (TCP/IPv4)

set the following
Use the following IP adress
Use the following DNS server addresses
copy everything from the adapter settings from the beginning

If that doesn't work set the IP address from last step +1 on the last tuple. If that doesn't work just set it randomly to 20.

If that doesn't work the router may just be the settings. (It might be locked to certain MAC ID)

Windows 10 is shit and all reviews are paid

I can't believe this fucking shit I'm seeing right now. Stellar reviews all over the place for something that is LITERALLY, and by that I mean LITERALLY, LITERALLY the same shit as 8.1 except with a shitty meme start menu, different but still shitty phone tier unusable meme apps, and shitty meme assistant Cortana that mines your useless normie data. Oh, and a fucking ripoff of Expose from 5 year's ago Mac OS but with worse animations.

That wouldn't be all that bad but it is missing many features from Windows 8, most important one being COLORFUL TITLE BARS. Now everything is so white it will burn your retinas off, this is fucking ridiculous, you could always change that color in Vista, 7 and 8 but now you can't anymore because fuck you. You can't even change icon spacing for the desktop or pin shit to the left side of the start menu, if you disable recent apps it just shows empty space... WHY THE FUCK WOULD YOU NEED THAT WHEN YOU CAN PIN TILES TO THE RIGHT HOLY SHIT EVERYONE IS GOING TO PIN HIS FAVOURITE APPS THERE GOD FUCKING DAMN IT I'M SO FUCKING TRIGGERED RIGHT NOW. And finally it's still full of fucking duplicated apps/programs like the new shitty settings, inconsistent icons, rough animations, shit's that early as fuck (Edge, are you kidding me with this shit? Literally IE but slightly faster in some shill benchmark and MS Paint built in because that's what everyone wants right? Being able to scribble shit on web pages, what's the fucking point?).

TL;DR I am surrounded by shills how do I stop this?

By the way I'm seriously considering switching to Linux or Mac, this shit is the last straw I'm so fucking done with this shit tier pleb os.

Install, 8, then upgrade to 10 from within 8. 10 gives you a month to downgrade back to 8. Use that month to see how you like 10. All your programs/settings/files remain the way they are. 10 might remove a couple programs like speccy and what not but it's a 10s process to reinstall them.

log into your router (since you are having 10.0.0.1) I assume it's a netgear?

Just write in the address of your browser:
10.0.0.1
user/pw is underneath the router, with netgear it's usually admin/password so I'd try this first.

Look for something like "only accept connections from known devices" or "block unknown MAC IDs" and disable that. Also enable expert mode when looking for such an option.

Is that going to be a problem down the line, what with the lack of support for AMD cards? I haven't played games for a few years because of a bricked desktop, but my understanding was that a lot of companies shaft them.

Am I right in thinking that the processor is the most important, as far as the utilities I want to run? Is picking up a speedy processor the best future proofing one can do? I figure since Skylake is young, I might be able to upgrade eventually, assuming that the die shrink (and subsequent architectural improvements) probably won't happen for a few years.

Someone did warn me previously about adopting Skylake so early. I have a shit laptop, so I can afford to wait, but I'd prefer not to wait like an entire year or some shit. I was hoping to get a desktop up and running by midsummer.

>>
>>52121189
AMD has better DX12 support at the moment if you're considering that, but the best future proofing you can do for GPUs is buying cheaper ones more often

Skylake will give you about 5% better performance for a 20% price premium, so the 4790k still beats it in price/performance.

Don't expect it to be cost effective to upgrade your CPU later though, Intel will change sockets before any meaningful performance bumps happen.

>are the real skylake gains in mobile, due to the die shrink and power-savings?
Yes. In mobile devices, every last bit of juice that you can save on the CPU buys you a few extra seconds on your battery's lifespan. It's why AMD has been losing market share in the mobile market lately.
>Is a Skylake price-drop in the books in the next six months?
As in a drop below the MSRP? Most likely not. Right now, there is a severe shortage of unlocked and low-power Skylakes, so prices have actually been going up due to supply being so low. The fact that board manufacturers spent the time and money to develop work-arounds to overclock locked Skylakes and gamer boards for Xeon E3 V5 (those will no longer work on consumer/business chipsets) shows that this shortage will go on for quite some time.

Could be a dodgy sata cable m8.

With almost 24k hours on time its probably hearing the end of its life anyway. I have an old Seagate 1.5tb that has been giving me health warnings for almost 2 years and it's still okay but it could die pretty much anytime soon.

Back up your shit and try a different cable.

Also what do all those event viewer warnings say?

I'm having a bit of a problem with MPC right now.

I'm trying to play a x265 video with the Media Player Classic HC I installed forever ago with CCCP. When I try, the audio works fine, but the video comes out split in three images on the top half and green (Pic related).

I checked, apparently the CCCP version is a little older, so I tried installing the new x64 one on the MPC site. It plays the video, but the audio sounds a little dulled and it's annoying to keep switching two identical players.

Anyone had this problem before, any idea to fix it? Some people report no problems with the CCCP version, and the only definite option I found was something in the CCCP settings that I had already done, so I'm a loss.

I have a pair of 2.1 speakers and headphones.

The speakers require 1 green audio jack from my pc

The headphones require a USB, a pink audio jack for the mic, and the same green jack on my pc that the speakers use.

I usually use speakers when im not gaming with friends, but whenever I do game with friends I have to go to the back of my pc, unplug the green cable which goes to my speakers, and plug in the green cable connected to my headphones.

You can imagine that this is very, very annoying, and it increases the risk of me fucking up the green audio jack on my mobo.

There is a green jack on the front of my pc, but the quality is very poor on it.

How can I set it up so that I dont have to swap the headphone and speakers all the time?

Bought a Sprint phone with a CLEAN ESN, am only allowed to activate it on Sprint Post-paid, not MVNOs. Some people have had success complaining THROUGH the MVNOs and others report success through the FCC. Which do?

Some anon asked:

No, Sprint is CDMA, there are no "carrier unlocks" those devices (with the exception of world phones, which mine isn't) are pretty much made to only function on Sprint's frequencies.

you do realize you need a codec for HEVC and a somewhat decent CPU.

Just to give you a few hints. I don't have much experience with it, since PLEX transcodes all my content. I get like 25% load per 1080p/10bit transcode on a 6 core 12 thread semi-recent Xeon though, so if you have an ancient computer that might be your problem. Look at your CPU load when trying to watch stuff.

You use a traditional monitor, or maybe a TV?

Right now I have an adapter for my headphones. I use a TV, and there's an "Output" set of red/white inputs in the back. I have those attached to a green jack adapter and my PC attached by HDMI cable. I just set the HDMI as the main audio and turn down the TV, and boom, headphones only. If I need the speakers I just turn it up.

I don't know if that would help, but I am sure there's some kind of splitter cable you can easily find to jack in two audio devices.

Matter of fact, here you go.
http://www.amazon.com/Belkin-Speaker-and-Headphone-Splitter/dp/B000067RC4/ref=sr_1_3?ie=UTF8&qid=1451417308&sr=8-3&keywords=3.5mm+audio+splitter

My computer's fine, pretty much brand-new, I don't think the hardware is the issue. I have a codec for it, presumably from CCCP, which works fine with x264. I don't know if there's a new one for x265, and if there is I'm having trouble finding it, for some reason.
>>
>>52122618
ideally you should buy a sound card and connect the front audio out to that sound card and then set it up to mute speakers when headphones are connected.

Alternatively you can just buy a USB and 3.5 jack extension which costs next to nothing and clip them to your desk.

But are you sure that you need to connect the headphones on 3.5 jack and USB? Because USB implies a sound card for the microphone so I'd be surprised if it doesn't have sound on it's own.
Just connect the headphones to your PC and leave them connect. Switch playback device in Windows "Sound" settings under playback.

But there is one problem, my computer keeps crashing during gaming (Kernel-power Event 41) and even after replacing all my parts individually and in pairs its not stopping. On multiple forums and from friends I have heard that there is simply true fix and that I should move to Linux anyways and see if it stops, what do you guys think? I wouldn't know, as my setup doesn't even technically do that. Give it a google, I can't imagine it would do much. It's just sending the signal twice I suppose; I assume it wouldn't show up as just one input, especially if you need USB for the headphones. Worse comes to worse you waste $4.

>Do you mean plugging them into the extension instead of into the mobo? So if the extension breaks then the mobo is still fine and all I need to replace is the extension?

I mean you buy two extensions for the two 3.5 jacks and one for the USB. That way you don't have to crawl under desk, but just switch on the extension that leads to the green jack.

That has nothing to do with protecting your motherboard, but with convenience. (well apart from the jack on the board not getting as much wear I guess)

That's an unfair comparison, a car's maintenance costs what it costs because of factors like the going rates of parts, the scarcity of able mechanics and the amount of work it takes to fix it (it's my understanding luxury cars usually take more work because they have the most commonly accessed/replaced parts under many layers of parts)

This FED issue is something relatively new (implemented sometime in February this year) which was put in place to make sure people who owe Sprint money can't resell their devices and people who buy new devices can't use them with their prepaid partners without first using Sprint's service for a year.

I really only bought this device to use as a second phone and test out some MVNOs before committing to one. If it was my main line of service this wouldn't be an issue, but I really just wanted to sample some prepaid providers on Sprint's network.

Windows 7 has no Hyper-V support, so I'd say upgrade to 10 and then use Hyper-V for Debian. For Windows 7 there is also virtualbox, but I didn't like it at all.

Of course you can dual boot, but it will always be a bother to shut down, just to boot into the other.

If you still want to set up dual boot partition the drive before hand and let Debian set up the bootmanager.
